Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA), a Vietnam veteran, worked hard to pass a new GI Bill: S. 22. The bill increases education benefits for the men and women of the US military.

Webb reached out across the aisle to Sen. McCain, a fellow veteran, to help back the bill; but McCain refused and in fact spoke out against S. 22.

Of course McCain has the right to express disapproval for any bill he disagrees with, even if it seems strange for a veteran to be against better education funding for soldiers. But what he shouldn't be doing is touting S. 22 as a bill that he backed now that it has passed (75-22).

Watch as McCain uses the bill that he fought to kill as part of his stump speech at a town hall event, stating:

I'm happy to tell you that we probably agreed to an increase in educational benefits for our veterans that not only gives them an increase in their educational benefits, but if they stay in for a certain amount of time than they can transfer those educational benefits to their spouses and or children. That's a very important aspect I think of incentivizing people of staying in the military.

"we probably agreed"?

If McCain is elected you can look forward to weasel words like this, and signing statements, an limp uninspiring speeches. Meanwhile on the back-end he'll be spying on your family and torturing innocent detainees.

Nice, America, nice.

I don't truly know if Obama will follow through on his theme of change, but America needs to show the world that it doesn't subscribe to the Bush doctrine.

Cheers,
Tuds

Bush also took credit yesterday as well as having given credit to McCain. Unless Americans suffer from short term memory deficit, such incredulous moves will be disregarded.

McCain used to be able to pronounce correct grammar - but I think he borrowed Bush's malapropisms "Incentivizing" is not a word.

Insofar as to "helping" veterans and soliders, what does McCain plan to do to save our soldiers stationed in Afghanistan and Iraq after he drops nuclear bombs on Iran and within 47 hours nuclear DRIFT passes in the wind to where our American soldiers and contractors are stationed?

If Bush/McCain nuke Iran - within 48 hours all of our soldiers in Iraq/Afghanistan will be dead.

Bush and McCain do not want to fund Veterans Administration to take care of returning veterans who have PTSD and are disabled. I suppose by killing off all our veterans in Iraq and Aghanistan that elminates the budget problem to take care of wounded, disabled and PTSD returning veterans?

I think Bush & McCain have adopted Hitlers "Scorched Earth" policy - when Hitler realized he could not win WWII - he set Germany on fire and turned against his own people. The blood lust of Bush & McCain to nuke Iran - and in turn murder all our soldiers stationed in Iraq & Aghanistan through nuclear drift that floats over in the wind when the nuke Iran.

Not one journalist questioned Bush, McCain and Hillary about the consequences of dropping nuclear bombs on Iran. There are very few demonstrations by Americans against this. When I read the news and presidential poll issues, - the war in Iraq is #7 on the list of voters concerns. It seems the vast majority of Americans are first and foremost concerned about the economy, unemployment, gas prices, health insurance, immigration -= ending the war in Iraq is #7 on the list of election issues.

BTW - during the George H. Bush, Regan, Carter and CLinton administrations America routinely carpet bombed Iran and IRaq. They never attacked us - not even ONCE. Clinton was carpet bombing Iran and Iraq on a weekly basis for EIGHT YEARS and they never attacked us. None of this is in the media and throughout Hillary's campaign the media never brought up this issue. Hillary is crypto-fascist and her politics are really much closer to Conservative Republicans - in no way can the Clintons be viewd as progressive. They are anti-labor and pro-war hawks. Hillary was gung ho hawk on Iraq until 6 months ago when she realized she wouldn't get elected if she kept insisting on permanent military bases in Iraq. It wasn't until her presidential campaign heated up that she softened her stance on Iraq. BTW, Bill just broke up with his long time girlfriend - he had been carrying on with a multi-millionaireess divorced socialite who has a home just one mile from the Clintons house in upstate New York.

If I had $30,000 cash I would immigrate to Canada and surrender my American citizenship. I am just as disgusted with Americans as I am with Bush/McCain.

BTW - Obama's plan to end the war in Iraq is to continue it for another TWO YEARS then gradually withdraw our troops. Obama is not a peace candidate and he supports NAFTA and CAFTA which are the two most anti-labor pieces of legislation in the entire history of America. I will vote for Obama, not because I really believe he is remotely progressive, but by voting for Obama it prevents
crypto-fascist McCain from dropping nukes on Iran.

but during the "signing ceremony" when the bill was signed into law by the current occupant of the White House, Bush rattled off a few names of people who "helped" to get this wonderful legislation passed (which he was against the whole time, mind you). In that list of names - at the very end - he said, "Senator McCain."

We truly live in Bizarro World!
