Parade of Hacks

This says more about the state of our media than anything about sexism, misogyny, or women.

Bill O'Reilly, Tucker Carlson, Chris Matthews anyone on Fox News, and Pat Buchanan. You could pick any issue and find a slew of inane and offensive comments from this gang. Perhaps Matthews is the worst offender here, and also perhaps the one that isn't quite so blatantly a hack (though I would argue otherwise). This video makes a compelling claim about hackery and the problems it causes in ruining intelligent discourse and meaningful discussion of any issue.

I'm not saying we don't have problems with sexism in this country. Clearly we do, but the key question is where are we headed? I happen to think that things are going in the right direction, if a bit too slowly. The younger generation is post-racist and post-gay-bashing, but are they post-sexist? That's really the key question here. In just the last ten years, working in a corporate environment, I have seen things change for the better. Have I heard my share of sexist comments? Certainly. But as we get more and more women in positions of corporate and political power (albeit too slowly), these things will change.

I don't mean to discount the video entirely. Clearly it's important to discuss this issue, but let's remember which voices we're seeing here. The most heartening thing is that all the women in the video pushed back in these situations and didn't stand for this kind of dialogue. It would have been nice if some of the men could have done so as well.

Hillary dredged Up this BS, Intentionally

I grant there are those in Media who have been dying to attack Females Publically for a long time- But Hillary encouraged it by Using the Gender Card. Had she Steered away from invoking this- as Obama has avoided using the'race card' -These blanant and closet Sexist would not have been able to use her to justify their views. She had to say "I'm your Girl', Bill had to say the 'boys were picking on her' She to complain about being asked the first questions, She not allowed Allowed this behavior from the boys - she encouraged it to aid in her 'Divide and Conquer' Tactics.
Her actions have been more deterimental to the women's Equality Struggle then any of these 'Squawk Boxes'.She has demanded Special Privildges, a Lowering of the Bar and Kit gloves to be used whenever her campaign's screw ups come to light. she expects not only the Media , but US to repeatedly Forgive HER for her 'misstatement' yet pounces on any other persons few 'out of context' words. I am a Michigander living in a rural community- i was never Offended by 'Guns & God', bu tI was Outraged by "obliterate iran ' with Nukes and 'RFK' assasination, not to mention the numerous LIES- Snipers, IRA peace talks...
to put it into perspective Mosley Braun Never lowered herself to such tactics and she is Black and Female. Now that is a Female who Presented Us All in the best Light, Honor Integrity and real Fortitude. Hope she finds a spot in Sen (President) Obama's Cabinet.
Hillary lived by the 'Sexist ' Sword, may she return to HER 'Kitchen' because of it.She set the national "kitchen" on Fire for her own Benefit and she got Burned.

that the founder of the Women's Media Center, Gloria Steinem, is also the person who was comfortable conflating Hillary's role as First Spouse, with elected office. And she used her premise as a means to inflate Sen. Clinton's experience v. Sen. Obama's experience as an elected official. The first thing in the video is a quote from Shirley Chisholm. There are few women in the movement who can point to their personal support of Chisholm, with their vote. I'm not defending how the media is more interested in how we look than what we say. But, I don't think women are completely innocent, when many continually choose to present themselves like playboy bunnies, especially in presenting the news. Ms. Maddow is one of the few who wears little makeup, and whose choice of dress doesn't distract from her message. Let's face it, how many of the males in media or politics walk around with their shirts unbuttoned to their navel, tight pants (to enhance the package), and generally look like gigolos? Women like everyone else have to ask ourselves how much of how we are viewed is self inflicted?

Isn't it sexist to be constantly claiming that one is entitled to something because of his/her gender?

Yes, Hillary has been the recipient of gender discrimination and stereotyping.

Her opponent, on the other hand, has been the recipient of death threats based on racial bias.

If we're going to decide this election based on who has been treated most unfairly, we would have to award it to Obama. Instead, we await the outcome of the delegate count. As we should.

Women, blacks, latinos, asians, are all "minority groups"...groups that have been treated unfairly for centuries. Any candidate that complains about their group being treated unfairly, but then treats another group unfairly is a hypocrite.

This is why the Hillary campaign's complaints about sexism fell on deaf ears, because that same campaign kept using racism as a weapon against Obama.

...which began almost a year ago--(not so) coincidentally, when Karl Rove inexplicably left his cushy office as White House Political Adviser a year early,--has done what Rove set out to do when he left.

If anyone believes that Karl Rove is NOT the guiding star behind the sudden rise of Barack Obama--which until last August, no one outside his family & friends (and Chicago voters) had ever heard of--anyone believes that? I got a bridge to sell you, in Bklyn NY, it's in VERY GOOD CONDITION (despite its age, CA 150 years old...) LOL! ROTFLMAO!!!

But at that time, the Republicans were looking at Hillary Clinton's overwhelming victory this November, and their bete noir--another Clinton presidency--would have been assured. This--the Obama candidacy vs Hillary Clinton's--was the Republican's Hail Mary pass--and it worked. Why? Who knows?

Because, everyone in America who's over 15, still remembers the greatest economy in the past 40 years--and who gave it to us, was Bill Clinton.

And now we've allowed it to be taken away from us, because no one with an IQ over 2, thinks that a Hillary Presidency would not ALSO BE A BILL CLINTON presidency--with another 8 great years. And had Barack Obama NOT been a Republican pick--then he could have been Hillary's VP--and given America 8 MORE years of a great Presidency. That's if Barack Obama had been first picked by Democrats, not Republicans.

The Republicans were desperate--but they well knew their adversaries. When asked what he thought of Democrats, a Republican operative choked back his laughter and said, "why, we call Democrats the "'gift that keeps on giving'". I don't have to translate that one, do I?

To all those of you who fell for Rove's Obama 'candidacy for Democratic nominee4' and aided the Republican's last, desperate Hail Mary pass to stop another fabulous 8 Clinton years--you got what you wanted. You soon will come to regret it, but I'll be laughing right alongside everyone else--cause from now on I'm gonna be voting Independent. Why?

Because, after the way that the Democrats have acted--after they've allowed the media pillorying of their best and brightest (and until lately, inevitable winning candidate) I'd be ashamed to be a Democrat another moment longer. Good luck to you all. You sure will be needing it, after this November!

More Then Sexism

I don't want to take away from Barack Obama's historic night, but since the topic was brought up, I have a few things to say concerning media's treatment of Hillary Clinton.

The video points to many examples of open sexism. However, what really pushed Obama into his nomination victory for the Democratic Party was money. Yes, the all mighty dollar.

Actually, Clinton collected record campaign funds. When you have a media making negative comments about you for most of their broadcast, you are most likely going to come up short. Clinton was not only competing with Obama, she was competing against what amounts to an unlimited war chest. This was exampled by Chris Matthews' night after night negative dialog of Clinton for more than half of his show.

Yes there was sexism, but the influence in the Democratic nominee by the media was manipulating and questionable. I will be left with this nagging question of why did the media choose to give Obama the kind of advantage he ended up getting as a direct result of their negative coverage of Clinton.

Joseph
