Well, that does it.. I never really thought Stewart was funny, but from time to time he points out the absurdity of things in American life, but without ever really going far enough...but as he was more or less welcomed into the fold of mainstream media I began to doubt his show's credibility. NO I am sure he is a complete asshole. The fact that they can so casually dismiss 911 truth as laughable conspiracy exposes them as the frauds that they really ae. The conspiracy of 911 is obvious and only a fool would deny the fact that at least an investigation is warranted. Stewart has now earned a place on the list of appeasers guilty for crimes against humanity. The mainstream media and all complicit officials elected or not must be tried for willful acts against humanity and/or willful appeasment--whatever the fancy lawyer terms are for that sort of cowardly and traitorous act. I am so sick of the refusal of Americans to accept the ugly truth. These people are weak and cowardly--the most cowardly of all!

Good Writing, Amazing Twist

I read the book. Mr. Taibbi is a succinct, in-depth writer with a knack for describing human nature in colorful, amusing detail. As a former evangelical, I can attest to the fact that Mr. Taibbi is ON TARGET regarding the zombie-like countenance of the born-agains, and their zealotic belief in whatever their crazy, charismatic leaders say. He points out that Christianity has nothing to do with today's evangelical movement, and his experience proves it. Well done.

Unfortunately, Mr. Taibbi's writing about the 911 Truth Movement falls short, but in a uniquely interesting way. It's as though he has taken an oath to believe the "official" story, and uses his writing to debunk anything that strays from the government's official message. He has become, in essence, an evangelical for the anti-conspiracy, demonizing the 911 Truth people in the exact same manner that the evangelicals demonize liberals. This is obvious due to the fact that, while he finds lapel-pin reasons for criticizing the Truthies, he does not clearly or reasonably describe why the Truthies ideas are "wrong"; he merely repeats over and over again that they are not "correct," and supports his opinion with talking points and insults. That disappointed me.

"The Great Derangement" is a very interesting read with an amazing twist: it is a book written about zealots, by a zealot. It criticizes one form of zealotry, and promotes another. Mr. Taibbi, can you see the irony?

Taibbi, with nothing but, "No, the Truthies are incorrect." And insults, disparagements, condescension and put downs, all with that smirky face of his.

v.

Former militatry pilots, officers, current airline pilots, physicists, chemical and civil engineers, architects, etc., with loads of training, hands-on experience and education, with no particular axes to grind.

No contest! I rest my case.

Fundamentalism...

from any standpoint, even dead center, is a problem. Explore openly, see what's before us, and don't grasp anything too tightly. Even holding "reason," as Taibbi seems to do, as fundamental, creates a scenario of "us" and "them", "black" and "white". We can come together and still have different beliefs, whether it's religion or theories about 9-11.
