This video plugging Avaaz.org exposes the myth of a fundamental clash between Islam and the West as a problem of politics—not cultures. It received over 1.4 million views and 37,000 comments on Youtube (right up there with Star Wars Kid), and helped secure Avaaz.org as the place for international online activism.

In just one year's time, Avaaz has amassed over 3.2 million members from 192 different countries, partly by leveraging video campaigns such as this along side online actions (mostly on human rights issues) that appeal to anyone with a soul and warm blood running through their veins. Check out their website... in 13 different languages!

At least, that's what the wayback machine says.

Now, when you run "articles" like this promoting your own affiliated "protest organization", please remember to include "this is an advertisement."

Searching the site Avaaz.org for "NAFTA" returns zero hits.

The site is a typical watered down protest site that glosses over major issues and presents the WTO as a legitimate organization that can be "petitioned":

"Next month, the WTO will propose new global fishing rules. This month, finance ministers around the world are deciding what those rules should be. That gives us a chance to make a stand--to tell our trade ministers and government leaders to oppose the subsidies that lead to overfishing, and to support fairness and sustainability for generations to come.

To send a message to your country's leaders, simply enter your name, email address, and country. The Avaaz database will look up the right person to contact. You can edit the model message on the right--or just hit send.

Now, do you really expect people to buy into this instant protest site?

All people are basically the same and there'd be no culture clashes in an ideal world but factors like sinister monotheistic religions and dwindling energy resources seem to get in the way.

I get tired of pleas for help in other countries when we wont help ourselvs. We haven't been able to stop putting each other in jail for 70 yrs now with the drug war.We need to take care of our own back yard before we jump fence. I see the homeless everyday and some are parrentless and very young with their parrents in jail, mostly drug ralated. Grandparrents are overburdened with the caretaking of their grandchildren mostly drug ralated again. We offer them no repreve, this is "no country for old folks" thinks to the drug war of course.Lets take care of our own first!

This is a moving video, but it makes the false suggestion that the 2006 elections made an impact on the Bush agenda. The sad fact is that the Democrats in Congress have rubber-stamped the continuation of the Iraq war, with nothing more than a window dresing of opposition. The fact that Pelosi has refused to impeach Bush and/or Cheney makes it clear that we are under a de facto one-party rule.
