should appear on the major networks. It is a powerful indictment wrapped up in a palatable soundbite.

sickening, isn't it? The horrors that are revealed about GITMO, Iraq, Afghanistan & other US Congress-funded abuses...
yet...

the way Americans will run shrieking by the thousands about China's cruelty & abuses...

or wax hysterical about Canada's, albeit gruesome & economically enforced seal hunt (said as a strong animal rights & human rights activist!)

but can't culturally summon themselves to more than a small & earnest crowd @ Fort Benning's 'School of the Americas'?

but tell someone *about* the US-sponsored cruelty? & the first thing you hear from most Americans is... "gosh, its really to protect us... so screw 'em... whatever is BEST FOR AMERICANS"

& isn't THAT the TRUE HORROR?

Americans, under the impression that NATIONALISM is greater than HUMANISM... as if human rights & global prosperity is a 'zero-sum game' for which they'd better get in the first beatings & resource thefts before the rest of the World gets hip to the crimes...

as if billions haven't noticed before the last 18 months or something... its only been 200 years of this 'American Entitlement' or 'Manifest Destiny'

if they are allowed to get away with the atrocities of Guantanamo Bay, they will begin doing it to our own citizens. And it has begun. This isn't the first occurance, and it won't be the last.

This man's "crime" was being a Muslim chaplain. How is that a crime? He was exonerated of any wrongdoing. And all he wants is an apology from his government. Needless to say, he hasn't received one.

Free Speech TV aired a speech that he gave telling of his ordeal. It was absolutely heartbreaking. We should all be outraged at the humiliation and injustice he has suffered.

Inside the Wire

I recommend the book, "Inside The Wire" written by Erik Saar and Vivica Novak. Saar was an interpreter of Arabic who volunteered for a six month stint at Gitmo. He witnessed the same things Chaplain Yee did and more. Saar was there at the same time as Yee. He became convinced that while there was tremendous pressure to produce, most of the detainees knew little to nothing and many had stopped even being interviewed, though they were not released because it would look bad. To show compassion or understanding was to be seen as a collaborator. Military interrogators were inept and cruel and often at cross purposes with other agencies that were using more sophisticated and successful techniques.

Guantanamo is an American gulag whose continued existence keeps us in the company of human rights violators around the world. We can't lead with this kind of example.
