Wal-Mart for President?

How are Clinton's Wal-Mart ties eluding us?

Just because Hillary Clinton is ignoring her Wal-Mart ties, that doesn't mean the rest of us should.

New footage from the Center for Public Integrity confirms what Hillary Clinton has conveniently omitted from her website and campaign speeches: she was on Wal-Mart's Board of Directors for six years, from 1986-1992.

It was during those six years that Clinton served with the notoriously anti-union Rose Law firm in Little Rock, defending Wal-Mart against workers who tried to unionize. It was also during those six years that Clinton served with fellow board member John Tate, whose favorite saying was: "Labor unions are nothing but blood-sucking parasites living off the productive labor of people who work for a living."

In this video, you can see Sam Walton, plain as the Wal-Mart logo's menacing yellow smile, as he presides over the grand re-opening of the company's original store in Rogers, Arkansas. Walton praises Clinton, "You're one of the finest lawyers—legal persons—that I've ever met or ever known. And without any question, you’ve added more to our board than any person we’ve ever had on that board.”

Walton then proudly reminds us that both Hillary Clinton and her husband Bill (then governor of Arkansas) helped start the company's "Buy American" program. In case Clinton forgets to tell you, Wal-Mart touted Buy American with signs and advertisements claiming their clothes and other goods were "Made in the U.S.A."

Buy American was a horrendous lie. Not only did Wal-Mart continue to get clothes from Asian sweatshops, but they also became the nation's biggest importer of Chinese goods, forcing U.S. manufacturers out of business. Oh wait, maybe Buy American referred to clothing produced in New York's Chinatown, where in 1991 (during Clinton's Wal-Mart tenure), labor inspectors found 16- and 17-year-old illegal Chinese immigrants working without pay.

Now that this video is out, there's no way Clinton can deny being on Wal-Mart's payroll (the company gave her around $15,000 a year, $100,000 in Wal-Mart stock, and its lobbyists contributed tens of thousands to her presidential campaign). There's no way a champion of women's rights can deny being linked to a company that continues to defend itself against one major discriminatory suit after another. And there's no way a presidential candidate who is backed by a slew of unions can deny connections to anti-union fanatics like John "Blood-Sucking Parasites" Tate and a company that pays its employees salaries below the poverty line.

Unless of course Clinton omits it from her website, or the press inexplicably decides to leave it out of their otherwise exhaustive scrutiny of her career.

Back to the video... Sam Walton says, "But Hillary, I hope you can stay long enough to feast your eyes on this latest creation of Wal-Mart," to which Clinton jokes, "I want to shop, Sam!"

Clinton says this line from off-camera.

I just don't get it. I have been following the democratic presidential race very closely for the past 5 months I am constantly in awe of the blatant ignorance of HRC supporters when it comes to her "policy". It is almost as if she can do no wrong. They are so blindly "Clintonian" that they look past Penn, NAFTA, Bosnia, Walmart, campaign financing, lobbyists and other extremely controversial issues.

Where does this BLIND support come from? All I hear from the HCR drones is that she can change things. Kind of ironic being that the last 5 elections (not counting Bush Sr.'s Vice Presidency) have been either a Bush or a Clinton. Maybe it is the fact that she is so embedded into old school DC politics, I can't tell where she starts and Bill ends.

Open your eyes, take off the blinders and do some research. Ask the tough and important questions. I support Obama, as I believe not only that he can make a difference, but that he can inspire people in an incredibly new way that we haven't seen since JFK. However I have also taken to the time learn his policies and understand his ideas for reform.

I know why I am voting for Obama in November, I just wish supporters of HCR would know why they vote for her in the primaries.

What a tedious bunch of nothing. You have nothing to say. You're just looking around for some kind of criticism of Clinton. What boring fools. Just give it up. You've run out of material. Clinton is the one, that had a huge 8 month lead, that neither Obama or any other candidate, republican or democrat has been able to equal. 8 months. The scam is obvious now.

A better question: What is wrong with America????

Answer: damn near everything! The fact that a blood-thirsty, power-hungry, criminal asshole like Bush can still pull a 30% approval rating speaks volumes about the American public. And the fact that a near-senile POW collaborator is considered a "war hero" (by too many) and is garnering roughly 50% of voter approval polls is also chilling and totally unfathomable!

I realize that the Democrats and Republicans have 'fixed' our political system and brain-washed the average voter into believing that they HAVE to be (vote for) one or the other but the candidates offered for this cycle's charade are abominable! Until the people wake up and clean House...and Senate...of those corporate controlled shysters masquerading as public representatives, it really won't matter which of the neo-cons get elected. Unfortunately, IMHO, most of my fellow American voters don't realize it but our noble attempt to establish a Republic beneficial to and for the public, has been usurped by big business and a 'ruling elite' that cares not a whit what "the people" think of their excesses! You're going to need divine intervention to survive what the Texas turd and Darth Cheney have done to the country; and the chances of that are similar to the proverbial 'snowball in hell'!

I am not a Hillary fan and I hate Wal-Mart. I wouldn't buy a roll of toilet paper from them...BUT... let's pause and take a look at this.
I am no expert on the history of WM but WM under Sam Walton is not the Wm of today. As your video shows, Bill and Hillary asked them to stop buying shirts from foreign countries; "build a plant in Arkansas"...and Sam did. Good for him. I have talked to dozens of people who worked for WM when Sam was in charge and they confirm it was a very different company.
Hillary has her faults but (me thinks) this is not one of them. Wal-Mart is a major Republican contributer, not Democratic.
We must be fair !

Alter net is great -but it doesn't reach the great unwashed masses. It's not that this is not on FOX or CBS ect., but why not even the Daily Show or Prince Colbert? What can we do to distribute this message to a wider audience? Any ideas?

After the primaries I hope Hillary has plenty time to shop at WalMart and improve her stock's worth in that "fine" all-American store. She believes it's a beautiful store and I can't think of a more appropriate place to find someone of her integrity shopping and supporting the efforts of corporate America. You go 'Big Box' girl!

Walmart...That's what I've heard from many of union members, so, can't beat'em, join'em. Or you can throw your money away to those expensive mom and pop shops. Walmart has the buying power to save you money. In a classic understatement, who said life was fair?

At the time Lieberman visited McCain three months ago, the Prisoner of War-mindedness was fourth in the polls, and falling. Rudy was the first choice of the War Party, but he is unelectable. Lieberman told The McCain Stain that he would become president as long as he did and said what he is told.

Obama was bought by the War Party four years ago, when it seemed likely that Hillary would run. They had him write a book, campaign for the senate, and like any New And Improved Product hitting the market, they implemented a publicity campaign around his every word.

Image control and image creation it is called.

Clinton is the real danger to the War Party. She really believes in health insurance reform, (There were other candidates in the race, but they were also shut out and down by the War Party) and other fundamental changes in the way we view the world and act in it.

The War Party and its functioning body, the corporations, operate as Male-dominant and Male-ego fundamentalism.

Historically, the Brownshirts in Germany were essentially the same, bringing to national dominance images and ideals of the Superman, and the Nazi War Party. Leaders of the Brownshirts were homosexual; only after attaining political hegemony were "gays" purged publicly, yet male dominance remained as the essential core.

The War Party here has perpetuates the same maleness that existed in Germany then: rape in the military, the subjugation of women, torture of prisoners, building as-yet empty concentration camps, and the glorification of violence in the media. It goes deeper than that, from the subtle to the blatantly open: two men shouting at each other in public "debates" over meaningless issues; empty male-dominant porn as the national standard for sexuality; the predominance of the gay male agenda in the public arena, politics, and as a weapon to discredit (feminine) religion as an important or legitimate building block in society; and codifying into law the (male) governmental practices of seizing property, search without warrant, suspension of Habeas Corpus, eminent domain of big business over individual property owners, and probes into the private lives and communications of persons for no predetermined reason.

Obama, as the arch-typical Alpha Male, fits the prototype acceptable candidate to displace the potentially viable campaign of Hillary Clinton, representing any woman of power in the United States.

Clintons feminine nature is considered far more dangerous because it is inevitably outside the male-dominant standard to which Americans have become captive.

We need war. We Love war.

We need oil (aggressive) and we don't seek solar energy (passive) as the national standard. We penetrate the earth to get oil. We prefer this to passively receiving the energy from the sun, so it seems.

The fear of Hillary Clinton runs deep in the male-dominant culture because feminine intelligence threatens a deeply ingrained way of life far more than another Caesar-Obama ever will.

These are the words of Thomas A. Nagy

which of the three bums gets "elected". They're all neocons. They're all bought and paid for by big business/finance. The ONLY reason to vote for whichever of the Dems gets the nomination is that their judicial appointments might be more moderate instead of the current string of extreme right-wing activist judges Bush has appointed.

Then again, Hill is a member of "The Family", and that worries me more than Wal-Mart...

Alternet must be slipping. I insist that Alternet, get back in shape. It's absolutley necessary to publish at least 2 articles attacking Hillalry. One won't do. Half of the Left, is made up on mental midgets that are as stupid as 100% of the Right wing. We members of the moronic Left, insist on at least two anti-Clinton articles. Now get on your knees, and pray to Obama, like good Christians.
