In March, the Project for Excellence in Journalism released its annual report on the “State of the News Media” in 2007. And with the Iraq war going so supremely awesome with gobs of “progress” oozing from the ground like so much light sweet crude, FOX has repeated as the cable “news” channel with the very least Iraq coverage.

"Fox, in turn, spent less time on the war in Iraq than the others (10% vs. 18% on MSNBC and 16% on CNN). And it was more oriented to crime, celebrity and the media than its rivals (28% vs. 19% on MSNBC and 16% on CNN)."

But remember, FOX isn’t ignoring Iraq because it’s an intractable clusterfuck that they vociferously championed, then claimed was going super hunky dory if only the “liberal” media would tell you so. Or that it highlights the myriad lies and mistakes of the Bush administration, republicans, and their entire ideology. No, no — FOX keeps their viewers in the warm, comfortable darkness of ignorance because that’s how you win a war. Remember this from last year as Bill O’Reilly proudly defended his network’s lack of Iraq coverage?

"Do you care if another bomb went off in Tikrit? Does it mean anything? No! It doesn’t mean anything! You can’t put it in any perspective."

One of FOX’s mottos is “We Report. You Decide.” But, as I noted last year, if FOX refuses to report on the Iraq war, how are their viewers supposed to decide?

Maybe the “meaning” of a bombing is that both US and Iraqi forces are unable to stop bombings from occurring, or that the bombing is part of a civil war that both FOX and the Bush administration refused to acknowledge, or that Americans and Iraqis continue to die in a war that was declared over almost five years ago.

Then there was this classic from BOR:

"The terrorists are going to set off a bomb every day because they know CNN and MSNBC are going to put it on the air. That’s a strategy for the other side! The terrorist side!"

So remember, FOX is dumbing down their viewers with stories about Britney, Anna Nicole Smith, and white women in peril out of patriotism. Knowledge is the weapon of terrorists. The best way to honor our soldiers’ sacrifices is to have no clue that they actually happened.

Strength Through Ignorance!

Victory Through Cluelessness!

What You Don’t Know Helps America!

If we get stupider and stupider, we just might have a chance to win this thing...

Nothing new, and it's not just from FOX

This is from more than 2 years ago now: Pollyanna Pundits have been positively spinning this war from the start. It's almost as though everybody except for politicians and pundits sees the reality.

from Faux News? They aren't a news organization! They are a corporate spin machine and a mouthpiece for the Republic Party and this administration!

Expecting Faux to actually cover "news" is about as likely as Bush announcing today at a news conference that we will have an immediate withdrawal of all US forces in Iraq!

The Fix Is Always In At Foxxxy Fox

I got an email a while back from MoveOn.com excoriating Fox "News" for using sex to sell their version of "news," and a plea for locals to entreat their newspapers against running ads on Fox or for the Fox Cable News Network. I thought, this is America. We use sex to sell everything from cars to drain cleaners. Three quarters of America thinks sex is okay. It makes us feel good for thirty seconds or so. The rest of the population thinks sex is evil, though admittedly necessary. Either way, whether due to nice, fuzzy warm feelings, prurience, or revulsion, it is the ultimate sales tool for selling, television advertising in particular. This is a capitalist, relatively uneducated, free market country. Why wouldn't sex sell? And since it does, why wouldn't it be used endlessly? For everything.

Linking a product, which Fox "News" certainly is, hardly different from, say, dog food, to orgasm in our primitive brains, or, conversely, to instinctive recoil concerning the big "O," or just a bit of second rate titilation, is nothing less than the American way. So what exactly is the big deal? Does MoveOn think that attacking the T&A that Fox provides its repressed viewers will turn any of them around? Fox viewers are bad enough. Take this away from them and who knows what they might be capable of.

Calling the Fox News Channel a "news" disseminator borders on the utterly disingenuous and cowardly. Fox "News" is pure propaganda. Propaganda always is propounded primarlly on a non-verbal, symbolic level, the idea here being, think about being fucked, because you damn sure will be. Can you ever imagine Morton Kondracke in some working class bar with a name like "The Grease Rack" or '"The Pit Stop," elbow to elbow with a bunch of welders and fitters just off from the middle shift? Maybe his two hundred dollar silk tie will go over as big as his theories of free market globalism. One never knows. Biological Darwinism-No. Social Darwinism-Absolutely-the survival of the connected, the lucky, and the devious. O' Reilly's loudly "professed" 'family values would get a bit of a jolt here. Despite the reverence for ignorant group think that exists in places like this, O'Reilly's fake macho, effective only in careerist citadels like network news organizations, would be sniffed out in short order. He just might be in for a serious ass-whipping.

So what's the deal, MoveOn? Accuse Fox for tits and ass? On TeeVee! Goll.....leee, that's akin to to accusing pedophiles of liking little kiddies. The pornography of Fox News lies in its message, not the minor league, adolescent T&A.images. Oh, the hypocrisy of it all! Better we would have upright, truly rather than faux puritanical, honest cheerleaders for mass murder and domination by the wealthy and powermad? Who can forget the Victorians and their outward anathema to all things sexual and their complete willingness to brutalize, rape, and kill the brown people of all four corners of the earth? Do we not remember or know of the superficial outward prudishness of the Fascists? Fatherland, Homeland, Xenophobia, Religious Reaction, Purity of race and womanhood (their women). We do know what they did. This cheap titilation accompanying the twisted lies, distortions, and fear mongering of Fox is not hypocrisy; it is a symptom.
