Posted by Brave New Films, Think Progress at 12:00 PM on April 9, 2008.

Confusing Sunnis with Shiites isn't a gaffe if you do it again and again...

During yesterday's hearing with Gen. David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) questioned Petraeus on what he called “the major threat” of al Qaeda in Iraq. Coming on the heels of his recent confusion over the nature of al Qaeda, McCain seemed to refer to al Qaeda as a “sect of Shi’ites”:

MCCAIN: Do you still view al Qaeda in Iraq as a major threat?

PETRAEUS: It is still a major threat, though it is certainly not as major a threat as it was say 15 months ago.

MCCAIN: Certainly not an obscure sect of the Shi’ites overall?

PETREAUS: No.

MCCAIN: Or Sunnis or anybody else.

Digg!

leading soft questions with open ends, pat 'answers', no accountability, no end in sight.

this is what happens when you allow anyone else to speak for you. they don't speak for me.

The problem is that his supporters are even more confused then him. Most wouldn't be able to find Iraq on a map.

Shouldn't Hillary Clinton withdraw her endorsement of McCain?

McCain just discovered that there are two different sects in Iraq. He seems to be trying this concept out, but he's hopelessly lost when it comes to details, like why al-Qaeda will never, ever, ever be Shiites.

Considering that McCain, who has sat on the Senate Armed Services Committee since 1987, doesn't understand even the most basic fact about the people we have been fighting a war with for 5 years, shouldn't Hillary Clinton rethink her endorsement of McCain as Commander in Chief material?

Mrs Clinton said: "I think that since we now know Sen. (John) McCain will be the nominee for the Republican Party, national security will be front and center in this election. We all know that. And I think it's imperative that each of us be able to demonstrate we can cross the commander-in-chief threshold. I believe that I've done that. Certainly, Sen. McCain has done that and you'll have to ask Sen. Obama with respect to his candidacy."

Of course she didn't say which direction she and Senator McCain were going when they crossed the threshold.

Not really, it's just another of many senior moments. Try justaposing this incident of the candidate's calling his wife a c_nt with the image of a tennis player hitting his head with the racket until it bleeds and needs stitches.

There you have it, another leader capable of peeing in his pants while he reads "Pet Goat" in the tradition of remarkable CRS(can't remember sh_t) leaders from the one and only grade B actor Ronald Reagan !!!

Yes, let's all say it together: "Oh, shi'ite !!! Another ready from day 1 Presidential candidate !!!!"

Everyday it seems that Senator Mumblemouth just confirms my belief that it is time for old, gray-haired men in expensive(ill-fitting) suits, who have forgotten why they are here, and have too much money, to STOP running the country. As many others have said, they don't speak for me, they are increasingly incompetent and are an embarrassment to have around.

We simply cannot risk having this man as President. He has trouble remembering which day it is. We lived through that memory malaise with Reagan and we already know what nearly eight years of Bushism is like, so why continue to flush the country down the toilet with an old, failing liability like this? Surely we are not that stupid.

A physician friend of mine confided that McCain's "confusions" actually reflect senility. Just like Reagan, he said.
Hoo, boy!

I just don't think America could take another four years of having a president who either doesn't understand the situation or doesn't care as long as he gets his way. We don't need another "nice guy" who can't speak the language. I want a president who will be respected by other heads of state not be an international joke. Please, lets vote for an intelligent person.
