Still an exclusionary movement

Feminism by its very nature is against men. Its inherent in the language used by feminist writers and activists. Writers and intellectuals have discussed this in depth so I won't try very hard. BUT feminist writings invariably invoke the male bogeyman that typically makes men stand up and say "what is up with all the hate?"

The same thing happens when minority groups attempt to address grievances from exclusive groups. The majority feels threatened and those members of the majority that are sympathetic can be put off b/c they are tossed into the same majority group despite their actions or opinions. IMO, words and labels do have power still.

I've seen this dynamic happen in political groups and committees.
FYI, Phenix = White male.

Blah, blah, blah, I'll never join that. Nice propoganda advertisement. Women can have all the power they want, and all those snooty office jobs. Us guys will still always do all the heavy lifting and dirty work.

I didn't think I could love America Ferrara any more, but this just did it ... now if only other celebrities of her generation would come out and say they're feminists (I'm looking at you, Lindsay)

...almost all of us in the U.S. are feminists, whether we like the term or not. How many of us don't want our mothers, sisters, girlfriends, wives, friends, etc to enjoy the benefits of feminist cultural achievements?

I'm so glad groups like the Feminist Majority Foundation exist to combat the still rampant sexism in our society. It's awesome to see a young starlet such as America Ferrera come out as a feminist - I wish more would do the same. This video proves that the modern feminist movement is anything but exclusionary.

Feminism is not the same pursuing equality or the better off pursuits of goodness and fairness.

Feminism focuses on getting female humans social, political, and other rights of female humans equal to those of male humans. While many self proclaimed feminists do try to focus on equality of sexes, many other feminists focus on female human interests only. and tend to not address rights of male humans. It is not clear whether or not the purpose's of feminist organizations should include addressing the injustices suffered by male humans on some issues.

In any case feminism tends to be more about equality of female humans to male humans, than about goodness or fairness. While many feminists would like to see an equal representation of female humans and male humans in various positions of perceived "authority and power", fairness is not a top consideration. It would be fair to ensure that resources, power, etc., is fairly shared by all (across race, gender, subcultures, species, financial ability, etceteras).

If a job is better suited for people with a certain ability in which far more male human applicants surpassed than female human applicants, fairness may dictate that people be recruited without reference to the gender, but many feminists would seek equal numerical representation of female humans if the job were highly desirable. Unlike weight lifting and boxing where there has been some attempt at fairness amongst those with differing weight classes, most people interested in fairness are too busy locked into feminists viewpoints to think about height based jumping categories or basketball matches. If sports competitions is about trying to help people get closer to their peaks, then why segregate only on the genetic differences of male humans versus female humans?

Because too many people who value goodness and fairness are too caught up in feminism to fairly evaluate fairness and goodness that may result in female humans not being equal to male humans, I prefer to not call myself a feminist. Though many of my pursuits may be the same as feminists, and people may not be inaccurate in calling me a feminist, I would rather stick to the superset and say that I am for fairness (and goodness and compassion and ...).

Sincerely,
Aouie

In society today, it seems as though "feminist" has become the ultimate F word. It allows the ignorant to claim that the movement is exclusionary and makes the knowledgeable constantly have to defend their stance for equality. I, for one, am proud to call myself a feminist with all that it entails, and to hell with the idiots I offend. Because it would only be an idiot that would get offended.

A feminist is a young, hip, attractive, easy-going brunette (and a handful of regular guys) who doesn't hate men and has a sense of humor?...Maybe she could explain that to all the cranky, uptight, defensive, man-hating feminists who don't seem to fit the profile.

I would prefer the word "igualitarism".
Somehow, "feminism" seems a kind of synonim word for "machism".

They used female bomber pilots and helicopter gunship pilots juxtaposed beside women in Burkhas. That would have been very thoughtful and made us think about concepts like freedom and liberty. It is too easy to stay behind the walls of US society and not ask how the freedom to be a feminist came about, and how it is defended right now in the world.

The vid reminds me of fly fishing... or trolling.. dangle something tempting in the water for the wicked lil fishies to come jump up at.

And it worked.. it brought out all the trolls. As ill-fated as genderizing a voice-of-Other movement can be, it's still shocking to see how many males are just still unable to hear anyone else. Disgusting.

I think most people are hung up on the semantics problem of the term "feminism".

Feminism is Egalitarianism! The right to be equal. If you're not a woman you might not understand unless you're like the cool jerks on this video.

All the ones I ever see are hairy, dressed like men, with their hair cropped short and combat boots freshly shined and shrieking as loud as they can about the man-o-centric maleocracy. Huh..whodda thunk..?

Most of you are completely unaware of how the women's movement started. We have all had the wool pulled over our eyes... it is time to wake up!!

If you want to know the truth about the women's lib movement, please watch the video interview at the address below.

Most of you will deny the facts, because it runs against your beliefs. People, that is how we are being manipulated...you need to replace your beliefs with facts. Pull the veil away from your eyes and look at the big picture. The elite who run this country are not looking out for your best interests.
