The View: Lying About Sex vs. Lying About War [VIDEO]

What is the greater sin for a politician, lying about personal indiscretions or lying about a major policy decision?

If you find yourself puzzled by who is among that 19% of Americans who continue to doggedly support George W. Bush look no further than the profoundly ignorant Elisabeth Hasselbeck (at one point she says McCain "led the surge in Iraq"). She's one of these people who still gets all self righteous and outraged over the Monica Lewinsky issue but can only muster pathetic exclamations of "everyone believed Iraq had WMD" (possibly the most infuriating, frequently repeated lie of the last few years) when confronted on Bush's great debacle.

Anyway, turn the volume down when watching this clip which you'll either find obnoxious, amusing or both. It aired yesterday, long before the Spitzer scandal broke and it does take on added meaning after that story has unfolded.

Whoopi and the rest of the View panelists try to have a debate over what is the greater sin for a politician: lying about personal indiscretions or lying about a major policy decision, such as going to war. I never thought I'd say it but thank God for Whoopi Goldberg, one of the only voices of sanity in this whole discussion. Check out the video to your right for more.

between the Blond (sorry, don't know who she is) and McCain. Or is she a Fox (definitely that)News Anchor? How is it she's up there and can't decipher the question that is posed by Whoopi? Come on producers...an opportunity for a national discussion and you can't set the table? Or is it that its a Fair and Balanced thing, and the blond's right wing banter is the only banter that the narrow right wing can decipher. trublured

where women take the stage with the apparent purpose of disproving feminism.

"Can we at least try to have an adult conversation?"

"No! We are gathered here as a flock of vapid twittering hens and that is how we shall conduct ourselves! Now if you're done being painfully ignorant, I would like to move on to something completely irrelevant."

Whoopi is the Liar

She is deflecting the question regarding Clinton, while stating opinion as fact. If Bush had lied about the Iraq war instead of being mistaken, why hasn't he been impeached? Why did the congress accept his "lie"? The Congress and the Senate are the check on the executive office. They are responsible for making their own informed decisions. If they relied on the executive branch to inform them they failed in their duty. Impeach them.

fidelity vs... PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE & fulfilling job requirements?

*sigh*

this is what happens when you try to *legislate morality* or try people in the Press... but refuse to actually PUT PEOPLE IN COURT FOR HIGH CRIMES & MISDEMEANORS...

If you LEGISLATE enough morality... *everyone is **TOUCHABLE** if you've got the power to get the goods or investigate... *

So consider a President like a boyfriend or girlfriend?

Maybe we should look a big deeper than that, because no matter how bad your lover is, his bad judgement will likely not result in thousands of American soldiers dying and many more maimed based on cherry picked intelligence.

1) I hope Whoopi made it to the ER in time to perform that surgery
2) Still Ahead: Randy Jackson & Paula Abdul! I can't wait to hear what Paula won't tolerate

I lost all resepct for that show when they discussed if the world was flat or not. Haselbeck, the right wing nut and her dumb flunky Shepard(the real dumb black woman) make the show for me unwatchable. Jery Springer at least doesn't pretend to be any thing other than what it is a freak show. The view is an anti feminist, anti brain program. it should be on FOX

This woman is so friggin stupid, she makes me sick. She has run off many intelligent people off this show with her stupid, ignorant mouth. If she hadn't been on Survivor, she wouldn't be on the View. How she made it to Survivor God only knows, because she couldn't survive a damned thing in my book.

She needs to be booted from the show and replaced with someone who has at least 1 active brain cell. She has to be the dumbest person who ever walked the earth. DShe makes me nuts..that's why I can't watch the View. I can't tolerate STUPID!

Please get her off the show and out of TV. Let her go back to popping out kids..something Elisabeth and Kelly Rippa are really good at...both are just as stupid.

this is why we are in the situation we are in today!!!

This is so pathetic and it scares the hell outta me. For anybody with an ounce of brains to compare a president lying about something as personal as having sex (regardless of where it actually happened) which involved two willing participants of legal age and effected no one but the two people involved and a spouse in this case.. to a president who methodically planned and ultimately used fear and lies to manipulate an entire country of people into supporting an illegal take over of a country that killed and mamed thousands and thousands of living human beings most of which were innocent people just trying to survive and many of which were our own children is absolute insanity in my opinion!!!

In the first case the only people involved were a man, a woman and a spouse. Nobody died, it had nothing to do with national security or safety of other people or anything else. There was no rape or any other crime committed. The only issue was a moral issue that could be and is viewed differently by different people.

In the second case it has effected the lives of virtually everyone on this planet. It has and still is causing death and destruction to thousands and thousands of people. It cost and is still costing billions of dollars. It has divided the people of this country like we have not been divided since the Civil War. It has turned this country into an evil dictatorship instead of the compassionate super power it was in the eyes of the rest of the world.

bad moral judment:
1. stepping out on your spouse and having an affair resulting in supposedly betrayal to a spouse, embarrasment and telling a lie. NOTE: the embarresment and telling a lie only came because the Repukes were desperately trying to bring something up to make Clinton look bad. Had the Repukes not spent countless amounts of time and our tax dollars throwing that stuff in our faces in the most crude and offensive ways they could muster up the embarresment and ultimate lying about the affair would never had happened!!!

bad moral judement:
2. Lying and using fear to manipulate an entire country and the rest of the world in order to get support to illegally take over another country and it's govt. for monetary and strategic gain much of which was/is personal gain (remember the Bushies and thier cronnies wealth is largely based on Iraq's most valuable asset... OIL) Not to mention the billions and billions being made by companies like Haliburton etc. who are supporting the war effort and cleaning up the mess they are still creating.

This is a no brainer people!!! It's like comparing someone who let off a fire cracker that had no potential to harm anyone but themselves to a man who let off an explosion that started the killing and mamming of thousands of people and costing billions of dollars.

We need to get off this "high horse" righteous train of thought and look at the reality of things. People like the blonde in this movie clip are people with very tiny little minds and can't think past the end of thier noses. Thier world is made up of fairy tales and not reality. Thier convictions have more to do with power and control rather than compassion and acceptance for all.

What scares the hell outta me is that these kinds of people not only can vote but many are actually "driving the bus" It just gets uglier and uglier everyday.....

& empowering POLICE to perform incredibly invasive investigations...

effectively puts NO PERSON beyond the long arm of Power & Money's demands for compliance & control.

you effectively legislate yourselves out of populist reform & representative government workers who put themselves between YOU & those who would OPPRESS YOU.

think about it.

Joking about war

I just witnessed a video of our heroic "leader "joking and laughing about topics such as the death of thousands, the maiming of tens of thousands, the destruction of tens of thousands of homesteads and the near death of an entire U.S. city. Those of us who have lost relatives in the occupation as well as as folks in New Orleans were not laughing. We did cringe ! We did cry! I have not witnessed such outrageous callousness & insensitivity since the days of Stalin. It's a disgrace and a great shame for our nation to bare (yes, it was also viewed overseas)... YET ... I did not hear a single joke concerning sex ... not one ! Not a single one !

It is difficult to believe such brain-dead morons with a right wing (nut) agenda are allowed a platform to speak in public. I encounter so many thoughtful people in my daily life, as those commenting on this post that actually could contribute in a positive fashion to the public discourse on topics of national and global importance. If this is not evidence, of a fascistic media bent on mind-control than perhaps, the earth is flat and the sun revolves around our little planet. I wish there was a GOD to save us, because we are in big trouble. This level of ignorance is truly terrifying. It seems clear to even my 8th grade students that "Our" president has some sort of mental disability, either from the coke and alcohol he ingested, the common interbreeding of the Elites throughout history, or perhaps Lyme disease, yet the media is fixated on other people's penis's, or skin color or any other none essential NONSENSE. It is damn embarrassing to be an American these days—and no, the thoughtful ones should not be the ones forced to leave!
