Bush on $4 Gas: "I Hadn't Heard That"

Posted by Jon Ponder, Pensito Review at 5:39 AM on February 29, 2008.

The "liberal media" will let Bush off the hook on this one, just as they always do, because his being out of touch is simply par for the course.
Bush: I’m ‘focused’ on gas prices but unaware of $4 gas.

In addition to being incoherent at a White House press briefing yesterday, George Bush also proved that he is out of touch:

The "liberal media" will let Bush off the hook on this one, just as they always do, because his being out of touch is simply par for the course.

Q: What's your advice to the average American who is hurting now, facing the prospect of $4 a gallon gasoline, a lot of people facing -
THE PRESIDENT: Wait, what did you just say? You're predicting $4 a gallon gasoline?
Q: A number of analysts are predicting -
THE PRESIDENT: Oh, yeah?
Q:-- $4 a gallon gasoline this spring when they reformulate.
THE PRESIDENT: That's interesting. I hadn't heard that.
A normal president would be severely criticizes for exhibiting this level of cluelessness about what regular Americans are going through -- just as Bush's father was excoriated toward the end of his term for appearing to be unfamiliar with an optical scanner at a supermarket check-out.

And since this Bush is in the pocket of oil companies, he ought to be held to an even higher standard for awareness of what his corporate masters are up to, especially since their price gouging is a major factor in inflationary trends.

But the "liberal media" will let Bush off the hook on this one, just as they always do, because his being out of touch is simply par for the course.

On the bright side, maybe his approval rating will drop even lower than 19 percent. These record lows will become a part of his legacy that even all the revising of history by Karl Rove, Tony Snow and the hair pieces at Fox won't be ever be able to erase.

Digg!

...that would be beneath him. When was the last time he actually had to pay for gasoline? When will he ever have to pay? For sure he hasn't paid for the last 7 years and probably didn't pay while he was governor of TX.

Besides, I bet the oil companies gave him a "Free Gas For Life" card for helping out with the Exxon-Mobil merger that only had one hearing and was approved in under a year. That goes for all of the Senator and Congress, too.

And these people represent you and me? What a bunch of arrogant pricks.

I watched the entire news conference yesterday

and it was one of the most disturbing things I've seen concerning Bush.

Not only did he make that bonehead comment about $4 gasoline, but he repeatedly looked lost. He had a vacant stare. When asked about the new presumed president of Russia (the same thing asked of the Dems in the last debate) he said HE REALLY DIDN'T KNOW MUCH AT ALL! His statements were laughable.

I seriously think he's drinking again. And I seriously believe they don't even bother to brief him about anything anymore. That's how he acted. It was astonishing to see. I don't think he even cares to try anymore.

I've never been more disgusted with Bush and his entire administration. Maybe it's bullshit fatigue that has finally set in, but, at least this morning, I can't take any more.

This is depressing.

Come on guys ! Stop complaining about gas price. You don't know how lucky you all are. You will be paying $4.00 per gallon in the spring ? Wow ! Thats just about what we pay here in Europe for a liter ! For a gallon we pay $8.88.
Now, that should stop you guys driving those huge SUVs and start using your bikes.
Or may be you guys will start shooting each other !

I get the feeling that there's alot George doesn't hear about. I read that the great 'surge' in Iraq came as a surprise to him. He knew nothing about it. With economic conditions the way they are he has not only let the people down, but the corporations are now taking a serous beating on Wall St. Nobody wants to be his friend. He is a disgrace and it's a shame that he is allowed to appear on TV looking like he's in a stupor. Thanks, ANNA

If Bush is subject to the world as the rest of us he would have been impeached long ago. I agree that he appears to not be aware of what is happening around him and us. But Reagan is still a hero to many. His advisors made cartoon strips to advise him of pending matters.

...than even Ronald Reagan was. Bush after all, for the longest while, has been shoving oil into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve with--as the old saying goes--ten fingers on each hand. Where does everybody think that the new price of oil came from? This time last year, oil was $40/bbl. Bush is repaying his oil sponsors, by singlehandedly keeping the price of oil over $100/bbl.

The price of gas at the pump, of course, has remained constant so as not to foment outright rebellion from the American people. After all--if oil WAS $40/bbl, with gas at the pump @$3.00 and change--what should gas be costing, now that oil's been at @$100/bbl for a while?

Right. Exxon-Mobil knows how to wait,--knows that (once Bush is safely gone) and the Democrats take over, they can have their reward, AND blame the Democrats for higher gas prices. Win/win for Big Oil...

Bush, actually went to the Senate and demanded to enlarge the SPR!! By way of reply, the Democrats (Byron Dorgan of North Dakota and Jeff Bingaman of New Mexico) have introduced bills to halt fills into the reserve entirely--stating that the SPR is all filled up. Did that deter Bush?

HELL NO! Check this out--in order to keep the oil OFF the market (and keep gouging the American public), Bush has now demanded that the SPR be ENLARGED to hold 1.5 BILLION BARRELS MORE than its current capacity.

(Story by Michael G. Malloy in TRANSPORT TOPICS, Feb. 5 issue. TRANSPORT TOPICS, is a trucking industry newsletter...)

So far it's no go, thanks to some Democrats...

So, Bush actually managed to say, "I hadn't heard that" (the price of gas will be approaching $4/gal soon) with a straight face--knowing that of course, it's all his doing. Taking oil off the market by shoving it into the SPR, reminds me of the REVERSE of Bill Clinton.

Clinton, when faced with a rebellion by the oil companies due to the then-low price of gas at the pump (Remember, the 99 cent gas of the Clinton years?) whispered into the oil companies' horrified ears, "SPR, guys." Giving them to understand that, for each dime they raised the price of gas, he'd flood the market with enough oil to lower the price of gas at the pump, by 20 cents.

So the price remained low, until 2000. Rigging elections is an expensive procedure--in 2003 the first repayment to Exxon-Mobil came in the form of the Iraq war, courtesy of Bush. But now is when the oil companies get their complete investment in Bush, back in spades.

Now, Exxon-Mobil's last investment--all the money they paid to their Senatorial and Congressional stooges to keep Bush from being impeached, is being repaid.

Not only is it expensive to rig two elections--but those Senators and Congresspeople, I imagine, didn't come cheap. Remember those 80-odd, mostly Republican Senators who quit BEFORE their terms were up (so that they could legally accept lobbying positions for the next four years)? They're merely going home to accept positions with the oil people--they're tired, their work has been done, and re-election is the last thing on their minds, since by quitting now, none of them OR their families, will ever have to work again.

But, forget about the coming price of gas; what Bush has actually accomplished, of course, is what the NeoCONS have been after since the 70s--to rehabilitate Richard Nixon, whom the rest of the world still calls Tricky Dick.

In that, the CONS have succeeded--for, compared to BushCo, Tricky Dick was the very model of rectitude, dignity and impeccable truthfulness.

Given the choice between this vacant-eyed piece of slime (and his "Buckshot" buddy in the White House), I myself--a Democrat--would vote for Tricky Dick in an instant.

Hopefully the Democrats can keep the price of gas DOWN TO $4/gallon. It'll be, a miracle.
