These same people would attribute the decline of any other race with Darwinism, lack of suitability, yet they act as if the decline of white Christians is some "catastrophe". The world will go on without white Christians as it has with the dwindling of any other race. Given the west utilizes most of earth’s resources to the detriment of the environment and every other living species this could be explained as a kind Darwinism. Nature doing away with the portion of itself it can no longer maintain.

I thought conservatives didn't like the French!

I don't see how concern about declining birthrates among some populations becomes fears about the extinction of traditional French ethnicity, or what have you. Does anyone really think the French are going to stop having babies entirely? It seems unlikely.

This reminds me of the corporate capitalist assumption that if your business is not growing at a cancerous rate, you are dying. There is no respect for simply making a good enough living to maintain a good quality of life. The planet can't support unlimited growth, not of populations nor corporations.

I think the main thing Europe should worry about is making sure they treat their immigrant populations well. Give them good educations and allow them to be full participants in the economy. Abuse and marginalize them, and when they eventually become a majority, there could be hell to pay.

Christians (and Jews, and Muslims, etc too) can only really propagate their religion by having kids. Children tend to have the same religion as their parents (though, not always). If children each had no inherited religion, and the religions of the world had to compete for our children's minds based solely on the religions' own merits, then religion as a whole would die a slow death on this planet.
So, get busy, you atheists. Start making babies! :)

If the birth rates in Europe are falling?
This is not a bad thing, for the birth rate to decline so.
The world has too many people now and all kinds of malificent problems result. Examples. global warming, garbage poliferation, greater energy needs and a host of other malades.

China is a perfect example. In the last 50 or so years. Large restrictions were legislated on the number, of off spring one can expect, to produce lawfully. One child per women.

This is just one more of the weird articles that one sees increasingly on Alternet. The American religious right, for one thing, is hardly interested in encouraging the French, or any of the Europeans to have more babies simply because the Europeans are already so steeped in secularism that more babies would simply mean more secularists. Moreover, "the religious right," as so often referred to on these blogs, is mostly common ordinary people who happen to be both Christian and conservative for whom ideology is mostly a by-product of a value system that desires a society based on respect, honesty, freedom and decency. One could supposedly make a case that unless Christian white families have more babies the US itself will soon be so constituted that whites will be a minority. But of course one would then have to explain why many of these Christian white families preach against abortion and the larger percentage of aborted babies are non-whites. Many Christians I know support the influx of Hispanics because Hispanics tend to be more Christian and family oriented (as opposed to the cultural elites, almost all of whom are white). White evangelicals tend to have more children than non-evangelicals but not because of ideology, but rather because they find fulfillment in family relationships

Just when I thought my biggest fear was supposed to be the looming doom of the Apocalypse, I find out that I'm to fear the unrestricted fornicating habits of uppity women intent on keeping their sexual independence. The need for controlling us now extends further into our already over-scrutinized wombs. Our American taliban is no longer content to ban abortion or further restrict access to birth control. Now we need only pledge to keep our legs spread wide so we may pop out 'patriots' to please our masters of the universe and all will be well. We'll proudly procreate ourselves till we can't walk straight, therefore saving ourselves till the End o'Times arrives to make moot our maternal contributions. Far sighted it ain't, but I'm sure the fearful fear mongers believe their cause to be just and blind obedience is their duty, no questions asked or at all necessary. Delusion - ain't it grand?

In less than 25 years (by some estimations) white people in the good ole USA will be in the MINORITY! So, then what are you gonna do? Move to Europe? (Oh... can't do that! Too many brown people there!)

Yea but who cares Jesus was brown? It is all fiction anyway and the white Christian god IS white. It doesn't matter because it is religion your talking about and mythology. That HISTORICAL Jesus is brown is about as meaningful as a Black Santa Claus on my black neighbor's yard. Alright sure he is brown. And he is "god's son" and was killed and then came to back to life magically and then flew up to heaven (whatever and wherever that is), flying up off the ground straight up into the air and into outer space. Performed some miracles. Etc. Anyone that cares about facts is already not religious in the sense most people are religious.

was mainly a rejection of conformity by the (adult) children of "christian" parents who rejected a fundamentalist/protestant view of life. so, even if the "right" has a bunch of shiny white babies, who's to say those babies will conform to their parent's wishes for and their parent's view of a "christian" world when they are old enough to think for themselves? they might just start a new counter cultural movement...now i'd sure like to see that!
