McCain's Campaign Platform: "Less Jobs, More Wars"

During the coverage of this evening's Florida primary results, MSNBC's Joe Scarborough discussed the impact of John McCain's victory with Pat Buchanan. The Republican establishment will rally around McCain and say "he's the guy," Buchanan said, but he cautioned that McCain's vision for America was foreboding.

"What does he say? The jobs are never coming back, the illegals are never going home, but we're gonna have a lot more wars," Buchanan said of McCain. Scarborough remarked that McCain's "inviting" presidential platform for the fall consists of "less jobs and more wars":

BUCHANAN: Here's a guy, basically, what does he say? The jobs are never coming back, the illegals are never going home, but we're gonna have a lot more wars.
SCARBOROUGH: We're gonna start a lot of wars! He has promised, for the record Keith, John McCain's platform -- and it certainly looks inviting for the fall -- he has promised less jobs and more wars. Now that's something we can all rally behind.
While campaigning in Michigan earlier this month, McCain said some Michigan industries cannot be resurrected. "I've got to give you some straight talk: Some of the jobs that have left the state of Michigan are not coming back," he said.

And just this weekend, McCain told a crowd of supporters, "There's going to be other wars. ... I'm sorry to tell you, there's going to be other wars. We will never surrender but there will be other wars."

UPDATE: Matthew Yglesias writes, "Oddly, though, McCain keeps picking up the votes of Republican primary voters disgruntled with the Iraq War despite being, in reality, the candidate most fanatically devoted to the cause." More here.

Many moderates (Republican, Independent, and even Democrat) love McCain for some reason. I don't understand why McCain's pro-war philosophy doesn't register with those who love him and claim to be anti-war. Yeah, McCain is against torture. But who, besides an EVIL MONSTER (which is what the majority of the Republican field is) in any way supports TORTURE, for God's sake!? Way to go, McCain! Way to take a stand on something so utterly morally obvious!

But as things seem to be going now, if Hillary wins the Dem nomination and McCain takes the Republican nomination, my bet is that McCain will win the general election. And watch him take a sado-fascist running-mate such as Giuliani. So, then if McCain dies in office, we are stuck with, not only a pro-war crazy for president, but probably an anti-Constitution crazy as well. You think Bush was bad? Ha!

From a third generation Navy brat whose father and grandfather were both 4-star Admirals...

Want a job to replace the one that is "never coming back"? Join the military! There will be plenty of opportunities to get your head blown off in a McCain administration.

The only candidate left standing that was promising to extricate troops from Iraq starting immediately was John Edwards who just pulled the rug out from under "real" progressives who think the Iraq war is a travesty.

If you support Hillary you should know that she received more money from the military-industrial cabal than even McCain, now that's hedging your bets...

With so many people invested in this war for "freedom" from "terrorists" because they can't admit the truth that we are fighting for oil you can bet that McCain will be a formidable foe this November.

Edwards, the only candidate in the running with decently progressive, workable ideas, is now out; so we have only Obama and Hillary with any chance to be the Democratic nominee, with Hillary most likely to prevail. Over on the Republican side, we have either McCain, in large part a Bush retread, or Romney, even more conservative than McCain and another corporate-oriented business school graduate as well, like our prez.

Oh, what a choice we'll have in November: Hillary, Republican-lite and up to her earrings in corporate campaign money; McCain, a war-mongering Bush echo; or pro-corporate, über-religious Romney. November promises to be yet another "hold-your-nose-and-vote" election.

The question is: can America, and the world under our influence, stand another four or eight years of "same-ol',same-ol'?" I doubt it.

Fact is, the Repubs don't want any of their candidates, either! The establishment of the GOP hates McCain, the voters hate Romney, nobody cares about Huckabee because he skates on the edge of lunacy! It's funny that in all the polls they've done leading up to Super Tuesday, "none of the above" or "undecided" still wins!

There are no choices in this coming election for president. That's the saddest realization I've had in a long time.

I'm continuing to shop for a new country. This one is unrecognizable to me anymore.

McCain's supporters include the Diaz-Balart brothers, Ross-Lehtinen (aka the Attack Chihuahua), Mel Martinez and the rest of the Batista-era fascists from the Big Island 90 miles to our south. That says it all for me. These Repugnants will suck up to any bunch of rightwingers who love to dine off gold plates and silverware, have poor folks sleeping in doorways, and a "let-'em eat cake attitude". That's what my grandmother saw on the Big Island in the '50's and what these rats want to bring to all of us in THIS country.

Yeah, it's time for a damned change...but does anyone think we will seriously get one? Here in the Elephant's Graveyard ( Naples, FL: Which I may soon abandon!) the beat goes on. I will support Obama, but you can betcher azz we're gonna get the Tweedle Dee vs. Tweedle Dum choice of Billary vs. General War Forever Mc Cain in November, Kennedys or no Kennedys.

The USA was a nice idea, but it's over, folks!

I listen to McCain, Romney, and the two democrats that are left and I'm left almost speechless. It's like up is down....down is up etc. Have I been unknowingly been transported to some parallel universe. More illegal wars; we may be there till 2013 (Hillary) Nukes aren't off the table as regards Iran, Pakistam Obama. What is going on with this mad group of CFR puppets? Please Ron Paul, save us from these mad men and women.

We've all heard about some big event coming in the year 2012; the year the ancient Mayans calender stopped suddenly. December 21st 2012. I've been wondering about that for some time; but the way things seem to be spinning out of control at a faster pace then even those ancient astronomers could forsee...no way will we make it till then. Hope somebody or something can get here to save us from ourselves, or we're going the way of the Mayans.
