What You May Not Know About Martin Luther King [VIDEO]

Dear activists, colleagues and friends,

Today we honor Dr. King's birthday. We all know him because of his historic impact on civil rights, but many don't realize that later in life he fought just as passionately for the rights of workers and against the entrenched institutions of injustice.

"Equality means dignity. And dignity demands a job and a paycheck that lasts through the week."

The War on Greed is exactly this kind of fight. The livelihoods of families have been directly attacked by the actions of buyout billionaires like Henry Kravis putting Wall Street's special interests ahead of his 800,000 employees... and pocketing $51,000 an hour in the process.

Watch the video to your right.

The first step must be taxing these buyout billionaires at a fair tax rate. It will not solve all the problems, but it is a strong and forceful beginning. With the presidential campaigns underway, it is the perfect time to force this issue into the campaigns the way we did with Wal-Mart and Iraq for Sale.

As our friend Rev. Yearwood, leader of the Hip Hop Caucus, has said: "We are facing a lunch counter moment for the 21st century."

Please join us at our virtual lunch counter by signing the petition to presidential candidates demanding they pledge to close the loopholes and tax the tax dodgers. Buyout billionaires are a menace to our economy. People are hurting, badly, and we must take beginning steps to bring the issue of corporate greed and economic equality to the nation's attention.

... an extreme example of the same sensibility of complete disregard for the welfare of workers and citizens in today's American culture by the "executive' class.

Left unchecked, it threatens the dream of Dr. King and all who have struggled and sacrificed for freedom and equity.

Least talked about aspect of Dr King's message was his opposition to War

He would have about the war criminals running US&A today as he did against the Vietnam War.

the thing that impressed me most, and the thing that i think may have cost him his life in the end, was his ability to see beyond self.

he was a leader of black america, but he was also a leader of the world. even with everything that black america was enduring as the enheritors of a system that brought them to america in chains, mr King saw beyond his family's struggles, and actively embraced the anti war movement. he recognized the global struggle and became one of the most outspoken leaders against the war in vietnam right before his murder, and this action to embrace the struggles common to all the oppressed, allowed mr. King to change the world.

god truly blessed mr king with the strength of vision to lead the world, he is sorely missed this fifth year of the war on Iraqis.

Hell to pay

I hope there is holy hell to pay for the richest and most arrogant in our society, those soulless demons who's only god is money and power.

I was in high school when JFK was shot, I was on my way to Vietnam when MLK was shot, I was in Vietnam when rfk was shot.

In every case, I just KNEW that none of these killings were from the hand of a lone gunman. Unlike most American sheep I have always been awake, well informed and aware, traits that have gotten more more ridicule than nods and will eventually get me thrown in a gummint run reeducation camp. My years os military service is where my eyes were open wide to the lies, corruption, to downright evil that permeates any large gummint.

I still remember when Doctor King was shot that a lot of people stated "good riddance to that shit stirring n****r, when they were totally blind an uninformated that Doctor King stood for and stood up for the common man.

The United Snakes and world are a much poor place from the loss of JFK, MLK and RFK.

We always seem to kill the good guys, letting the true demons run roughod over the masses. If Jesus were here today for the forst time, the powers that be, both extreme far right and left would conspire to get rid of him.

The devil is but one man, but evil, true evil is a consortium of men with a common agenda of lies, greed, lust for power and murder.

I just pray there is a special place in Heaven for people like Martin Luther King, Bobby adn Jack Kennedy, and others like them and a hell deep hot and m iserabel enough for the leaders of this day, who have been corrupted to the core.

Who doesn't know that Dr. King God Bless him took up the mantle for all people who were down trodden and ill-served oppressed and denied hope of a better life, freedom and peace of mind..

Dr. King knew that only when all people were viewed as children of The Creator and each given their due that only then would his people be free and equal along with all others..

No man is free as long as even only one man is not..!

Simple as that..!

Martin Luther King shines as an example the World has seldom seen since the Christ...maybe only Ghandi could be placed in his company. I wonder if we realize that none of our "Leaders" today have the balls to stand up for the working man and families; no one in Congress and not even the Pope or any religious leaders today can hold a candle to Dr. King! He must have a special place in the bosom of the Creator!
