On Tuesday night, Rep. Robert Wexler (D-FL) took to the House floor to urge the House Judiciary Committee to begin impeachment hearings into Vice President Cheney for “high crimes and misdemeanors.” Wexler, who has already acquired nearly 190,000 supporters through his website, explained his next steps:

Tomorrow, I will deliver these names to my colleagues on the Judiciary Committee with a letter to my friend, Chairman Conyers, calling for hearings. I will ask my colleagues to sign this letter … Continuing every day for months, I will publish in the Congressional Record several thousand names of supporters who signed up.
History demands that we take action, because the case against Vice President Cheney is far stronger than the illegality surrounding Watergate.
“In the history of our nation, we have never encountered a moment where the actions of a President or a Vice President have more strongly demanded the use of the power of impeachment,” Wexler said last Tuesday.

Just great, Congressman Wexler. This is a very forceful speach, and I would hope the Speaker Pelosi engages procedures as soon as possible.
We have waited far TOO long. By doing so, the United States of America, would regain some stature in the rest of the world. For the time being, they are wondering why Congress is so spineless.

The spineless jelly fish posing as the Democratic "leadership" are listening to neither Representative Wexler nor to the many people demanding impeachment of the criminal duo!

If there is to be respect for law and our Constitution

If there is to be any respect for law and the Constitution the impeachment hearings must be held!

I think Pelosi is stonewalling the impeachment because if the hearings were held Cheney and then Bush would be impeached. If they were convicted by the Senate, which I think the gravity of the crimes Bush and Cheney have committed would force the Senate to convict, Pelosi would become the President, which would create a huge problem for the Democratic Party in the upcoming election.

What Bush and Cheney have done is far too reprehensible, far too egregious, and will be far too damaging to our republic if they are allowed to subvert the Constitution with impunity. If that precedent were to be set, future administrations would be empowered to ignore the Constitution and our laws in the same manor.

For the Democrats to choose not to address the crimes committed by this criminal administration because it might complicate their party's election strategy would be dereliction of duty and a violation of the oaths of office of all members of Congress.

Failure of conscience

Representative Wexler is spot on, however, in the United States of America, we have a Failure of Conscience. Too many people have bought into the arguments of smaller government, terrorism growing exponentially, military might and the list goes on so that we can not fulfill our duty any longer. Never has this country sunk so low, nor the government been so criminal in its behavior yet we can not muster more than 200,000 signatures on a document that was called for at least 2 years ago? I am one of the signatories in this document, I have passed it along to hundreds of people, hoping that they would also sign and pass it along. Instead, I am censored on a Democrat web list. Imagine that. It's very clear that we do not have the will to take on this criminal establishment because when it all comes down to it, the other side wishes to win an election, they don't want to be troubled, work hard. They can not find it in their hearts or moral compass to see that sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and do what's right, no matter how hard or what the consequences. Doing what's right would in the end help to save the America that so many have fought for, given their lives for, instead, we're stagnant and without will. I am ashamed. Very ashamed.

in spite of the overwhelming case against him or his hand-puppet President. The Democratic leadership made a commitment to the American people prior to the last election that if they were put into power that there would be no impeachment procedings. That is the prudent thing to do since it would take so much of Congress's time and energy to conduct those hearings...and frankly, we have bigger problems that need attention. Besides, Bush would just pardon whomever in the end.

That is the difference between Dems and Repugs. If the shoe were on the other foot, the Repugs would have already been beating on their desks with their shoes, clamoring for their heads...because they are ruthless mother fuckers that will stop at nothing to get their way, regardless of what it would do to the country.

Should we conduct hearings to expose what these bastards have done? Sure! Accountabilty is a wonderful thing. Make it all part of the public record, and let the American people know the unfathomable chasm that the Repugs have put us in for the last 7 years.

Now if the justice department wanted to make a case after they are out of office, more power to them. That way there would be no pardons or other gimmicks to hide behind.

Keep Bush/Cheney on their heels

Impeachment hearings and subsequent proceedings will serve to keep Bush/Cheney on their heels and hopefully give them long pause before moving forward with their War on Iran. In addition, they will force the GOP candidates for President to take sides, preventing them from running away from the Bush/Cheney legacy as they have been so far.

Kudos to Wexler, et al. for doing what should be done.

Impeach now, or future administrations will continue degradation of our Constitution

Because Bush and Cheney pushed us, illegally and deceitfully, into an unnecessary invasion and occupation, they should be made accountable for this horrific and unconstitutional threat to the American people, and be held responsible for the uncountable deaths and continuing destruction that their policies have created. Only impeachment (and more ideally, conviction and removal from office) will clear the stench of illegitimacy that this government has created since initially placed into office by a flippant decision made in haste by the highest court in the land.

Impeachment, through discovery, will clearly tell a story about how and why this administration started an aggression. It will contain other sub-plots about indefinite detention and torture and the means of repression here at home, including the suppression of dissent. It will make it clear to future administrations that they will not be able to break or impede the constraints of the balanced branches of government, which our Founding Brothers so necessarily fought for.

Despite what Mr. Bush proclaimed when he said, "The Constitution is just a damn piece of paper" (paraphrased), the document is the living fabric of what the United States once was, and should be again. It's the law of the land from which every idea, proclamation, and action that we take as a people should be judged and governed by. As unpleasant as it may be, impeachment is a necessary first step to bringing the Constitution back to We the People, as the Framers of that great document intended.

Why stop at impeachment hearings? We need a REAL 9/11 hearing into all the unanswered questions of the 9/11 false-flag op. Then we could move directly from that to war criminal hearings and, at the very least, prison terms.

It was Dennis Kucinich who introduced the articles of impeachment against Cheney. I think we all owe him our gratitude for taking the lead in this. He is acting on behalf of the wishes of the majority of Americans. The man deserves our votes and he deserves to be heard.

I guess, supposing that Cheney and Bush ARE impeached and Pelosi has to take charge, maybe we should begin by impeaching Pelosi first?! I know I certainly don't want Ms. Spinless Pelosi to be president, even for a little while. This impeachment thing is becoming a chessmatch because you can't trust anyone in Washington any longer. You are forced to think three or four moves ahead before acting.

I'm for impeachement whole heartily. In fact I think that the impeachment proceedings will expose all the complicitous democrats such as Pelosi and Feinstein.

I've been tired (for a long time now) of Ms Feinstein's excuses, telling me that it's too hard, we don't have the votes, or now recently, it's too late. I've written her since the beginning of the war's, with no result. I've determined that writing my congressman or senator is useless. It's made me want to move to Canada. At least they are spending their people's tax money wisely.

I'm glad that there are still representatives that are pushing impeachment. I will add my name to the list even if it means that my name will appear on the watch list as a result.

And how about this for an economic stimulus package...'End the Illegal Wars!'

How many more blatant crimes can these clowns commit before they are brought to justice? Before Jan. 20, 2009, how much more damage will they do to this country and it's reputation before they are stopped? How many more US soldiers and innocent Iraqis will be murdered? How much more damage to the environment? How many students will drop out of schools that only care about testing? Since they epitomize the substance of high crimes and misdemeanors, what else is lacking that prevents Congress from acting?

If Democrats indeed, as "intellect" suggests, are afraid impeachment would threaten the upcoming election, they should be professional enough to come up with a strategy to accomplish that end without the dire consequences. I sense that most of the country would be grateful for impeachment, especially rank and file Democrats.

The only downside I see is that impeachment would take both the albatross and the millstone from the necks of the Republican candidates and might skim off some fence sitting undecideds. So be it.

I've been calling for action beyond just writing on blogs, but I'm stumped how to light a fire under the Democrats in Congress. I've blogged, written and called my representatives in both Houses, emailed friends, relatives, neighbors, colleagues, students, students' parents, etc., etc.

Someone, please! Come up with something. Think of some overt action I (we?) can do.

Thank of the buzz. Thank of all the happy faces. The American 'Depression' would soon turn upside down.

Evreyone will come alive as the truth sets everyone free.

Think of how the country will buzz as all the information comes to light. And when the constitution finally works the way it was intended.

Happiness spurs activity. Excitement spurs activity.

Think of how everyone will act when the Homogeniety Kings are put in a corner and exposed.

The country will learn that we don't need to be slaves to a cultureless, and manipulated, dictatoresque government that prizes on less choices, and less freedoms.

People will get an early dose of senses they didn't know they had. It will be like being a child all over again. A child in a new and colorful place.

The economy will boom, and think of all the other countries (virtually all of them) that has been getting cold treatment from the administration. And think of all the citizens of all those countries (virtually all of them, and I'm not talking about Islamic counties, I'm talking about western countries too) who will join hands and support us as we as we inject dignity and respect into our country as a whole.

These countries, and most importantly the people of these countries will be more than happy to support our counry and our economy if we prove to them we don't support this hostile administration.

Think about. It's a stimulus package for the economy, and it's a stimulus package for our wordwide respect.

At this point I cannot even imagine what crimes Herr Cheney or his lapdog would have to commit to justify impeachment. Seriously, if [A]war crimes (approval of torture), [B]obstruction of justice (lying to the American people to fabricate justification for a six-year war), and [C]handing a no-bid contract to the corporation you were CEO of (Haliburton's stock value has skyrocketed since Cheney took office as has the value of his stock options) is not enough to indict this creep--what is?
