Rolling Stone's excellent political reporter Matt Taibbi (whose work regularly appears here on AlterNet) stopped by Bill Maher's returning Real Time with Bill Maher this weekend and talks about the exhaustive experience of covering the presidential campaigns. He laments the glowing, fan-boyish coverage John McCain receives, the widespread acceptance and reporting that the surge has worked and also the oddity that we may end up with the two establishment candidates the press had coronated originally (Clinton and McCain) after all. Check out the video to your right for more.

Too bad the clip is cut off when super-patriot Snow gets offended, and the spat gets interesting.

...MT does make nice points.

would have been nice to see more, but paying for edutainment would have jeopardized my family's well-being.

thanks for the one-liners!

try Iraq Veterans Against the War .

As far as Tony Snow... he must have forgotten about Walter Reed...

MR. SNOW: That’s why — again, I would refer you, Bill, to the Department of the Army, which runs the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. This is the place where if you want to get –

Q That’s just an easy way for you not to have to talk about it. . .

MR. SNOW: No. David asked where the outrage — of course there’s outrage that men and women who have been fighting have not received the outpatient care — if you read the stories, there are many who are happy with it, some who are unhappy, and it’s important that we show our commitment to the people who have served. I don’t know what more you want me to do.

Part of something special? That must be why...
Post-traumatic stress symptoms often delayed for years for war veterans., NYT, Sep 2007
But that's okay, because the care is top notch, the best available. . .
Veterans Affairs Hospitals Suffer Problems Found at Walter Reed, AP, March 2007
Well, it's at least better than the medical care they'd get in a Baghdad hospital. . .

Matt made point after point. I loved listening to him talk. His point of view is seldom heard.

This is a fixed election and the Illuminati couldn't be more pleased.

Kucinich and Gravel are the only real democrats and Ron Paul is the only real republican. All three have been aced out. They cannot speak of their love of the constitution and their country. They cannot bring up the war or impeachment. This is such an injustice.

Snow is a kiss ass, lies through his paid off teeth. I cannot stand to listen to this bully speak. He is a tool for the NWO elites that are taking this country down. Iraq has been painfully destroyed and Snow acts like we did them a favor. Our military has been betrayed time and time again.

Now I know what they mean by a Snow job. Pure lies.

Interesting to see Taibbi after reading all those columns, but I think he sounds better in writing.

I went on YouTube looking for a longer version of this. I didn't find it, but I did find this bit on Imus, where Taibbi falls into the same herd mentality that he bashes the media for on this clip, apparently jumping to conclusions with respect to Hillary and New Hampshire.

When Maher starts throwing around the F word, it reminded me of George on Seinfeld, when he turns his hat backwards while he's talking to the "cool" guy.

Matt Taibbi's comment in the title is a great summary of his own commentary vis-a-vis the AlterNet blogosphere.

Tony Snow is a self-serving, chickenhawk asshole.

His pitiful performances as Shithead's press secretary disqualifies him from having an opinion about anything meaningful. Maher fucked up having him on his show.

Toni Snow - another Closet Homosexual

Rumor is when the gay escort was visiting the white house he had two routine customers. One named Karly and the other named Toni "the tiger". The surge is a complete and utter failure. None of the stated goals were achieved. Death is still a permanent resident in Iraq. He moves around to place where he can get the most for his buck. Bush is only worried about his legacy; like his daddy he will be known as a loser. Republicans who are closet members of the "Party of the Wide Stance" are the biggest whiners in the world. Please, Bill Maher; give Toni a Kleenex.

He maintains his Fox like position as apologist for the Bush lie machine. At least he is consistent - wrong all the time.

I am sick and tired of all this crap about the surge being a success. If it was such a success why didn't the "Decider" cross the border from Kuwait and wave his tattered MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" banner? As they say on the blogs==That's a lot of Bushit!

I love Tony Snow's outburst. It's proof that he actually believes the lies he helped carry. Even when he's out of the administration he refuses to concede an inch in the face of the truth. That's why these assholes are so dangerous.

Matt handled himself quite well, especially during Tony Snow's shoveling of huge mounds of manure. Personally, my head exploded, but Matt kept his cool. Would be nice if Bill called Tony on his s**t, but oh well.
