Glenn Beck is on a roll. With strong backing from Clear Channel, he now has “the third highest-rated national radio talk show in America” -- and his program on CNN Headline News gives him a nightly platform to denounce progressive outlooks and promote right-wing positions. But the glib Beck got much more than he bargained for the other day (Dec. 17, 2007) when he interviewed author, AlterNet columnist and media critic Norman Solomon on national television.

This is the kind of thing you DON'T ever hear the media telling you. Why? The gentlemen's agreement... we won't mention how your deceptions work if you won't mention how ours work.

Beck went into it on one competitor... and it came back on him hard.

Well I just found out I haven't missed anything by not having ever watched Glen Beck.
He certainly seems to think he's cute. Maybe someone should remind him he's a grown man and a supposed professional. The "aren't I cute and witty?" schtick is ridiculous on a guy with grey hair.

If CNN's not War-Monger Central, they sure could have fooled me in the months running up to Operation F**king Disaster (aka. Iraq). Memories are short in the media circles, I see.

You only think it's a "smackdown" if you happen to

agree with Norman. Otherwise, it isn't. Do you really believe anyone of Beck's listeners were converted in that exchange?

Norman, like most progressives, probably does not get much air time and that is why he chose to spew facts and positions as fast as he could, knowing he would likely get cut off. However, a more effective approach might have been to stick to one or two facts and hammer them home - facts that can be noted and subsequently verified by the audience.

I don't believe the exchange was effective. Most of Beck's audience, after hearing about allegations against Disney, etc., would tune Norman out. That is not success & that is not a smackdown.

Soloman clearly showed the hypocrisy of CNN and Beck, and Beck's weak defense of his corporate masters made it even more apparent.

Beck's cutesy, low-brow finger-spinning expresses his flailing haplessness perfectly.

Bravo Norman!

Okay. Glenn Beck is yet another right-wingnut self-aggrandizing blowhard. Bill O'Reilly and commedian Rush Limbaugh shouldn't have to preach the RNC's propaganda by themselves. Solomon may have made his points, but Beck's viewers were, no doubt, at the fridge getting a beer when he did it.

It would have been fairer let us hear the end of his sentence, "Wouldn't it be nice if once in a while somebody came on and said...."
