Now that Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee have defined faith for us, the following is my offering to assist voters in determining how to qualify for entry into the GOP’s evangelical enclave.

In the aftermath of a week of bully pulpit ballyhoo from the GOP presidential candidates, I decided to address my disdain in the only manner which would allow me to stomach the subject…sarcasm.

Having watched Mitt Romney tell us the meaning of faith in America and listened to Mike Huckabee toss tactical banana peels at the Bostonian’s (former Massachusetts liberal) forever flip-flopping feet, I found myself wondering which candidate would soon be sporting a wooden cross on his shoulder for the duration of the campaign.

Fortunately, there may well be a silver lining hidden in these holier than thou hijinks. By the time the GOP is done vetting it’s candidates, the average fair minded American may find them to be far too extreme and far too beholding to their religious right-ocrites. We’ve all heard the expression “if you live by the sword, you die by the sword”…well…2008 may provide a worthy successor, “if you live by the lord, you die by the lord”…especially when you spend all of your time fighting about which lord to worship.

Moving on, the following is my offering to assist voters in determining if they qualify for entry into the GOP’s evangelical enclave. Feel free to offer additional requirements and restrictions. I would hate to be accused of an act of omission…I’ve heard the punishment is ghastly…if you’re not George Bush or an acceptable affiliate.

The Top Ten Ways To Identify An Evangelical Republican:

Number Ten:

They’re opposed to sectarian conflict in Iraq but in favor of sectarian politics in the United States.

Number Nine:

They’re opposed to homosexuality and same-sex relationships but they’ll vote for a presidential candidate who does drag and lived with two gay men if he can beat Hillary Clinton and her “typically” unfaithful heterosexual husband.

Number Eight:

They wouldn’t dare vote for a Clinton given Bill’s disgraceful sexual antics in the White House but they’re happy to support a candidate who used New York City funds to carry on an adulterous affair.

Number Seven:

They criticize Democratic candidates for suggesting they would only nominate pro-choice judges to uphold the law of the land while they require their own candidates to pass religious litmus tests in conflict with the law of the land.

Number Six:

They’re in favor of abstinence only sex education even if it leads to more unwed teen pregnancies and more parent sponsored abortions (call it the evangelical version of NIMBY - not in my back yard; NIMBU - not in my babygirls uterus).

Number Five:

They’re in favor of the separation of church and state if it involves opposing a congressional inquiry into the fundraising and spending habits of leading televangelists but opposed to the separation when it comes to selecting a presidential nominee.

Number Four:

They support candidates who endorse more funding for AIDS in Africa while embracing a candidate who favored quarantining AIDS patients in America as well as having Hollywood fund AIDS research instead of the government.

Number Three:

They tout Ronald Reagan as their political icon despite the fact that he was unable to acknowledge the toll of HIV on gays in America or even utter the word AIDS…while they and their church’s now run around talking about saving Africa from the ravages of HIV…as long as it doesn’t involve condoms.

Number Two:

They talk about their Christian values while they favor denying health care treatment to the children of illegal immigrants. Family values apparently stop at the waters edge (that would be the Rio Grande river).

Number One:

They’ll never make enough money to truly benefit from George Bush’s tax cuts for the rich or condemn his doubling of the national debt but they’re happy to call the Democratic candidates who supported an increase in minimum wage and favor a national health care system unacceptable tax and spend liberals.

Bonus Qualifier:

They abhor the fact that Jesus was tortured, mocked, and condemned to death without due process but they’re damn sure in favor of waterboarding and disregarding the principle of habeas corpus while indefinitely imprisoning war on terror detainees.

The following video clips provide Mike Huckabee’s assertion that his surge is God’s work (therefore proving Mitt Romney is a “Christian” imposter) and some candid discussion of Romney’s faith speech (a speech that pales in comparison to the JFK speech).

This was a bit lackluster, given the bountiful material.

I watched the video provided with this story and urge everyone to do likewise! In it Mike Huckabee claims that his rise in the polls is analogous to Jesus feeding the multitudes.

Unreal

Here I thought it was my native American religious freedom project.

Notice he did not take credit for it, he said the pundits couldn't figure it out. He made it sound like an act of god. I disagree. I think it is the ever spreading circles of my message, my plan. Does he know I'm doing this and pretending he doesn't?

Or, is he as clueless as to where it is coming from as so many others. You know it is kind of nice not feeling like the center of attention. The more leaders going out with the same message, the harder it is for them to take them out. I do think Huckabee is an interesting candidate. His take on torture, ugh!

Gooyany talking to Tim R yesterday about his security for his mistress could have just as easily have been explaining the necessity for torture or covering up child abuse. It is all the same argument. He makes my skin crawl.

These people are the greatest danger to democracy in America that we have ever faced!

They are ignorant, stupid, incurious and totally unaware of American history and the absolutely necessary reasons our founders mandated separation of church and state.

They demand government support and respect for their particular fairytale belief (Romney shows even others of the same ilk are not sufficient enough).

We cannot allow them to reach any high office or judicial appointment!

...or he might realize that most of the insane dictators in history claimed that they were doing God's work.He shows once again that religiousness and mental illness are almost indistinguishable. Hick should be committed to a locked ward now, because if he remains free, he will certainly endanger others.

Isn't it the exact opposite for Governoor Huckabee who lost something like 100 pounds .
Seriously he is basically claiming that it is GOD who is repsonsible for his surge in the polls . Don't forget the last Presidential canidate aided by God was George W BUSH and we see how well that turned out for the Country .
I wonder if it was the same force that caused him to free that Rapist who went on to murder . I am disturbed that not more is being made of this case which provides an exact parallel to the Willie Horton case . It would also appear that Minsiter Mike is Lying when he claims he had real role in the paroling of the rapist .

You know what fellow "Posters"? I think all of this bruhaha about religion and the Republican Party is a good thing for this next election cycle. Remember how for this entire new century anyone left of center, was shown to be immoral, unChristian, non-patriotic, cheating, lying, unfit when it came time to vote? Further that the word "Liberal" was a dirty word and would be ashamed to call themselves that for fear of the contempt displayed?

Well, that's gone now. You can have all the policy and ideological differences you want, a Republican can disagree, argue, shout their beliefs to the hills, but they don't dare say that because I am a Liberal, a proud one at that, because I believe in Liberal causes, issues, policies, that I am immoral, that I love my country less, that I am greedy, hypocritical, and an unfit American. The Conservatives blew that argument out of the water and frankly I am dismayed that religion dares to be an issue this time around. I thought for sure it would be left where the Founding Fathers meant it to be. In our own private lives.

Then the Pope could be our next President

If you subscribe to his logic then why would God have him. God would just put the Pope as our President or at least Pat Robertson. Then God would change our Constitution so they would be there in office indefinitely.

I can't believe all of the bullshit I am reading on this blog.

SCARY THOUGHT FOR THE DAY #26:
Huckabee and Guiliani have nothing for the economy compared with Romney's business and economic acumen. Will you still be complaining about Romney's faith when they lay you off and foreclose your home? Get real, and don't get me started about Huckabee as a foreign policy disaster. Huckabee and Ahmadinejad sitting across at a table???? That's classic, what a nightmare.

Take all of the t-shirts mocking Bush you see at the mall and insert Huckabee's face. That's what college kids may be wearing until 2012. Bush haters are going to LOVE Huckabee, what a goober...there's a good image for the Republican stigma. Are you kidding me??

Why don't we all vote for an inferior candidate merely because he's not LDS. Evangelicals are going to ruin this nation...Piss off!!
