Olbermann & Maddow: Why Are Democrats Afraid to Impeach Cheney? [VIDEO]

Posted by Manila Ryce, The Largest Minority at 12:33 PM on November 9, 2007.

Cheney has an 11 percent approval rating, so why are Democrats scared to take him to task in front of the entire nation?

This post, written by Manila Ryce, originally appeared on The Largest Minority

Keith Olbermann discusses with Rachel Maddow the Democratic “strategy” behind denying Denis Kucinich’s impeachment resolution. Both Republicans and Democrats may have been using failed political strategies, but the real losers are the American people. This kind of partisan cowardice keeps Congress from fulfilling their constitutional obligations. Those Democrats who work against the impeachment of Cheney are indeed making a good case for their own impeachment.

It's pretty obvious why the Dems are not interested in impeaching Cheney: the want to win the white house and maybe even make it to 60 seats in the senate. What better way to win than leave these jackasses in power scrweing everything up all down the line? alternatively a long drawn out impeachment process with Cheney and the jackasses would likely alienate swing voters from the Dems and provide Guliani with all manner of opportunity against the "un patriotic terrorist loving Dems". These are ugly times in the good ol usa, and good people are being sent to thier deaths by both parties as they jockey for power. Ugly.

Cheney is a war criminal, he has committed treason, he lied about Iraq, was controlling NORAD during the events of 9/11 which should have been investigated, he outed a CIA agent, add that to illegal spying on citizens, torture, on and on.

Kucinich is the only one that is calling it like it is and standing up to the Bush administration. The democrats protected Cheney not the citizens of this country. Congress and Senate are in on the take over of this country. The process of take over has been going on secretly for years, but it is happening.

The Silent War's (Bilderbergs) main objective is to take down our economy.
This is a domestic war we are in. There is no war on terrorism. Only a war on us. Look at Congress. Do not expect the 08 election to be a life saver. It is all the same just different actors.

and Bush and Cheeney's occupation of the Mideast makes the world safer for Israel. As long as the U.S. does Israel's dirty work, it's business as usual no matter which party is in the White House.

There is no way they can get 67 votes to remove Cheney in the Senate

It's that simple.

I am more interested in knowing why, with MORE THAN 2/5ths of the Senate voting against confirmation (the vote was 53 - 40) there was no filibuster.

Cheney should be tried, convicted and hung. He's a despicable human(?) being, a coward, liar and thief. Bush should follow.

About time Alternet-

Happened on Tuesday-posted four days later -on a Saturday- on the bottom on the page- as a video. Should have been the lead article on Monday- to get people to call their reps the next day to say YES IMPEACH!

First of all-even if was only a symbolic vote-it would have at least been THAT. Now it is a symbol to We The People what a sell out bunch of wimpy Democrats we have. What a clear way of showing us exactly how there IS no real difference. DemocRATS or RepubLIEcans-they are all the SAME bunch. Of course we knew that after the sellout votes for more war money for Bush.
(Another story Alternet never mentioned till way after)

Second-we who attack Israel are not JEW haters-we are RICH JEW haters. America had no right to plant Israel in the middle of Arab land. It wasn't for Religion-it was politics. Look how it is playing out right now. Another oil war.

How many American soldiers are Jewish? Lots of poor American-Mexicans and Blacks though. I bet there are more Arab-American soldiers than Jewish- American soldiers!
I would sure like to see that stats on that. Never happen.

Third-all of you who are worried about the elections-do you really think bushandco are scared of our VOTES? With all that has happened-do you really think it is possible that we are going to have a fair and honest election?

We can kill and bomb and lie and torture-but we sure can't mess with the elections! They are SACRED! Yeah right.

It would have been nice to see the Democrats do us proud.
Even if it went no where. Better to lose with honor than sell out.

I felt like-I was a Jew and they just kissed Hitler on the cheek.

For Shame Alternet. For Shame Democrats.

I VOTED FOR DENNIS IN

the primaries last time. I will again. Dennis was asked seriously do you really expect that you can win. "I could if you were to vote for me.", he answered.

I put a Dennis Kucinich for president sticker in the back window of my Honda civic. I was stopped at a stop sign. A guy in a Hummer drove into the back of the Civic. He totaled it. I hunted for scratches on the Hummer. It was totally undamaged. I have not yet decided whether he did it intentionally. If you have anything intelligent to add to help me decide I would appreciate it.

Of course they can't carry out an impeachment any more than the republicans could impeach Bill Clinton. They don't have the votes. The whole Bill Clinton impeachment was for the sake of theatre. But if they tried the theatre, the powerful right wing propaganda machine would probably take them apart. Remember the right-wing propaganda machine was working against Bill Clinton.

Part of the real question is whether the American people can really see the right-wing propaganda machine for what it is. I have watched people watch Fox news. They were just eatinjg it up. They actually believe it.

There are places where broadcast news just doesn't get there except Fox news. The reason is that the FCC does not stop Fox from cheating on their broadcast signals. The Fox signal is stronger than the law allows. But there is nobody there to check.

Time and again, the Dems have refused to do anything to impede the BushCheney agenda. Maybe it's not fear, but cooperation/collusion.
