The Daily Show's Jason Jones interviews a first lady expert, an obligatory moron at a bar, and Elizabeth Kucinich in his latest installment of "Is America Ready For a". In this segment, Jason explores FLILF's (or at least fantasizes that he could).

Jason's first object of desire is Fred Thompson's wife (has Fred given her a name yet?). Mrs. Thompson is what we in politics describe as being hot in a "slutty" way. She looks like the young soccer mom you might pick up in a smoky dive bar. Not exactly the kind of girl you'd bring home to mom, but she probably already knows (in the biblical sense) half the political leaders you're bound to meet during your time in office and could introduce you. That familiarity could also mean trouble if Kim Jong Il ever decides to blackmail the president with private video tapes of the first lady.

Surprisingly, Jones actually gets to interview the lovely Elizabeth Kucinich for this silly skit, who is your classic smart-but-hot chick. You could actually talk to her for more than five minutes without the Meow Mix jingle racing through your mind as a distraction. An added bonus to the brains is the fact that Mrs. Kucinich has a tongue stud, which means she's not all tea and crumpets with a side of pleasantries when it's time to let freedom ring. That alone is worth voting for Dennis Kucinich.

I suspect Madam Kucinich may be looking at Arianna Huffington's playbook.

didn't know this about Kucinich - makes John Edwards look even better

Kucinich's policies are impressive as is his determination to stand up for them. I gather from a posting (and what looks like an age difference) that Mrs Kucinich isn't his first wife. Well, nobody knows how justifiable any divorce is.

Still, the convincing appearance of a strong and affectionate relationship between two intelligent and principled people, John and Elizabeth Edwards, is certainly (in my view) a plus.

My biggest fear is that Americans will vote for the face (or the boobs) and not the message. These politicians are pretty smart knowing that America places much too high a value on appearance and money than on content. Let's show them this time they are wrong and that we are intelligent people, able to see beyond the fluff. For the first time in a long time, lets show politicians that we are concerned about really important matters, like health care, education, ending war, and our environment. If these men need young women to make them feel big, then so be it - there are plenty of women out there who are willing to be someone's show piece for a bit of fame. They don't need to be our leaders if they are so emotionally shallow and concerned with their own appearances. The homeless man on the street could get a great looking woman if he had enough money...big deal.

Giuliani's Divorces say alot about him.

Rudy Giuliani's divorces say a lot about his personal ethics, unlike the others, who we haven't seen publicly play out their extra-marital affairs. And then "trade-in" the wife for the first affair, to be traded-in for the next who has now been traded-in for the current "Mrs." (will a possessive 's') Giuliani.

He's good at pressing the flesh, but it appears to be in sequestered beds away from the "registered" marital one.

So much for the Republican Party bringing "Morality and Ethics" to Washington D.C. Just when were they thinking of doing it?

wives and/or spouses

I'm sure that when we get right down to it we should ignore the spouses and focus on the candidate's attitudes BUT how a person relates to their spouse and their marriage tells a lot about them. I like that Hilary and Bill act like they really care for each other, like maybe they're friends! Barak and Michelle compliment each other and while Mrs. Obama grates on me sometimes I'd rather that than another Mamie Eisenhower or Pat Nixon. I supported John and Elizabeth four years ago and I probably will again. I like strong women who don't run away from a fight. That and as a fellow cancer patient I feel some kinship there.
What disturbs me is that men with marriage track records like Kucinich, Thompson, McCain and Guliani all want us to think they are men of values, leaders of the "party of values".
As a gay man I find it really bizarre that these men with their multiple marriages find ME a threat to their family values.

just what this ailing country needs.
The fact that she is drop dead gorgeous says nothing about the intelligence she displayed when she fell in love with Mr. Kucinich. Has anyone here ever bothered to listen to her speak, probably not. She is intelligent, eloquent as well as beautiful. And she does not fall for reporter efforts to trap her in their games.
Truly intelligent and beautiful women always go for truly intelligent and (inwardly) beautiful men. Marilyn Monroe loved Einstein, would she have blossomed into a classy first lady? Who the hell cares? After all, the First Lady is only the First Lady. Does the President's wife have to be a real life version of a fictional character, i.e. Donna Reed? I certainly hope we, as a nation, have realized we don't need rubber stamp women any more than we need a rubber stamp Congress.
Do men (or the majority of women) really want a stepford wife (Laura Bush) hell no, they (even if secretly) want Elizabeth Kucinich.
In any event, her husband has my vote!
