This summary comes from Editor & Publisher:

Appearing on Larry King's CNN show Thursday night, Stephen Colbert was accused by the host of using the publication of his new book as a platform to run for president. Colbert happily confirmed this, saying that he would seek the nomination from both parties.

When King said this was a "cop out," Colbert, host of his own talk show, The Colbert Report on Comedy Central, said that it actually demonstrated true "courage" because "I could lose twice."

He said he would run on a state by state basis, perhaps starting in his native state, South Carolina, as a "favorite son."

He would not say that he was unimpressed by the current crop of candidates -- but did allow that Fred Thompson's campaign slogan should be, "Do Not Disturb."

When King had asked, with a thumb pointing up, if he planned to run for the top office, Colbert said, "You mean God? No, dial it down one notch." He said the presidency was the only one for him since "I am not a bridesmaid."

But he also disclosed that he really is two different people, Stephen Colbert and-- Stephen Colbert. So it was impossible to say which one was throwing his hat in the ring -- at least in South Carolina.

His book is titled "I Am America (and So Can You!)."
