Senate Republicans Knew About Sen. Craig's History of Toe-Tapping

Posted by Pam Spaulding at 6:07 AM on October 8, 2007.

Pam Spaulding: Robert Novak's GOP Senate sources confirm that they knew about Craig's lewd conduct before the story broke nationally.
Robert Novak on Larry Craig Scandal

This post, written by Pam Spaulding, originally appeared on Pam's House Blend

Novakula was on Bloomberg TV yesterday and said that several of Idaho Larry Craig's colleagues in the Senate knew about his cruising activities in public spaces long before he played footsie in the Minneapolis airport restroom and got caught.

I have talked to several of my sources in the Senate, and this came as a surprise to me...They knew about it. They knew that he had this problem, and it was in the closet. And it was not just a homosexual relationship. It was this weird conduct. They didn't do anything about it.

Of course the obvious question is what exactly would the GOP leadership have done to Craig, given he hadn't been arrested (that we know of) up until this incident. No one pulled him aside to let him know that he was a political ticking time bomb for the Party of Family Values. His friends clearly were hoping to put the blinders on and hope for the best rather than draw attention to another Republican Sexual Hypocrite in their midst.

Hat tip to Bloggernista, who said:

Did GOP learn nothing from the fallout over their hiding of former congressmen Mark Foley's predilection for teenaged pages? At least a dozen House Republicans and aides admitted to knowing about Foley's lewd behavior, some for over a year, but they did nothing.

The short answer is no, they won't learn from these incidents because the GOP potty cruising epidemic is not going to stop. These self-loathing closet cases are in such denial and are so twisted about their sexuality that it's almost a compulsion. About the only thing the GOP can do is to start weeding out closet cases from the party -- something the Freepers and bible beaters call for quite frequently.

HOW did they "know about it?" Was Craig having toe tappng experiences w/ other toe tappers in the Senate restrooms?

One should be very weary about believing ANYTHING Novalak says. But if his comments are accurate, they raise a host of other questions.

Weird conduct. What was weird about it? He is married, he is Senator for the Republican "I hate gays" Party. Anonymous sex is thus required and the best way to do it is to cruise places that are known in whispers among others seeking the same.

Not so weird. Sad, yes, that people are forced to take such measures to act on their true nature, but not weird.

..is a terrible idea. That the Senator is a twisted wreck of self denial and loathing is probably quite true, and I don't doubt that there are others like him in government. But the solution is acceptance of gay men and women, not forcing them out of the party.
It's the Senators hypocrisy that should be criminal, not his sexual orientation.

Talk about a problem with 'weird behavior'! What I wonder is how is it that this snake (Novak) manages to slither up and present himself as human for the cameras? Of course the Republicans hide those among them who are homosexual, bisexual, athiest, etc. And, Novak is 'one of them', so he shouldn't be surprised! He is as dishonest (or perhaps more so, than any of the corrupt administration/politicians). I'm amazed that anyone would watch him at all. And, the fact is that Larry Craig is also a miserable liar. Larry, "I am not gay, I never have been gay". Larry just despises himself.

Perfect leveraging tool for The Powers That Be (TPTB) -- only allow those with some questionable personal behavior through to the top... a technique straight out of a CIA spy recruiting manual.

"Family Values" means cover-up! Foley. Vitter. Ney. Stevens. Gingrich. Doolittle. Cunningham. And on, and on...
