Bill Maher and Friends School Rahm Emanuel on Iran, Ending the Iraq War [VIDEO]

Posted by Adam Howard at 12:58 PM on October 1, 2007.

On the last episode of "Real Time with Bill Maher" the saber-rattling against Iran and lack of Democratic party aggressiveness in trying to end the war were ably scrutinized.

Can Michael Eric Dyson please run for office? This guy is incredible. I've was impressed by him in Spike Lee's When the Levees Broke Documentary, he was also dynamic in the Hip Hop hearings on Capitol Hill, now he calmly and coolly picks apart every one of Rep. Emanuel's pathetic attempts to paint Iran as a threat and to make excuses for Democrats failing to defund the War in Iraq. Joined by host Bill Maher and writer Peter Hamil, Dyson shows how Emanuel is still playing defense and whether he means to or not is advancing the message of Republicans with his actions. Strong stuff. Check out the video to your right for more.

I can't believe that this lying slimeball is even allowed to sit in Congress, let alone as a senior party functionary.

Which army did he volunteer for again?

looking out for nothing but his own interests. Most of them are just parasites on the ass of America spouting platitudes and lies to get their sorry hides reelected. Come on Dennis K. for President, he has had the courage of his convictions, which is at least a chance to take back America from the Merchants of Death who run it now.

Of course the bastards would probably assassinate him in the first six months.

Kucinich is the only one I trust when it comes to wanting to end this war and get our troops home immediately.

We have a one party state backed by a lying corporate media.

Why aren't Bush and Cheney in jail right now? Treason all over the place. Lying, spying, dying and I am not buying.

Out of Iraq now. No war with Iran. Impeach Bush and Cheney.
Nancy Pelosi is not going to do jack squat. No more funding for this illegal genocide. No more trillions of dollars for the Illuminati and their followers.

That's what Emanuel cares about. That's ALL Emanuel cares about. Were this any other country he was working for while an elected member of our government, he would be charged with treason.

Bush = King of USA - if we have to wait till he's gone to end war

Is Bush King of the USA or is he the President?

Congress can flat out refuse to fund the war and the Pentagon if they chose to.

Bill Maher is exactly right when he says the Democrats are playing a game of chicken with the Republicans over who supports the troops more and the Democrats keep on blinking.

Michael Eric Dyson is right when he says the Democrats need to be willing to go to the mat to end the war.

They are not willing to do this. Deep down the democratic leadership knows that they will get more votes from centrist voters as time goes on and the war doesn't end cause they can blame the republicans and the president.

Well, I say go right on ahead with that strategy and kiss the democratic base goodbye as we vote for Greens like Nader again, people who actually will go to the mat to fight for what is right.

Attacking Iran when we can't secure Bagdad?

This discussion completely reveals the false logic behind right-wing arguments and the passive Democratic support for same.

Notice that not one person could answer Maher's question: "is he (Ahmadinejad) actually a threat?" (answer: no)

Emanuel reveals the Democratic position of playing the good cop in this situation. Dems won't stop funding Guantanamo or the occupation of Iraq despite complete failure of both under this president - why??

People need to ask: who is benefiting from all this. So far, only Big Oil profits and the military contractors through no-bid contracts.

Maher is good at cutting through the crap.

What's with all the clapping, though? Either the applause sign operator is trigger-happy, or else they're using one of those infomercial audiences.

Dems' Iraq political expediency

Let's be even more honest and frank than Dyson and Maher, that Rep. Emanuel revealed the truth: he and other Dems want a Democratic president in 08 to take control of this war and "end" it.

I use the word "end" loosely, since Hillary has already made it clear that ending the Iraq war is a long process with the condition that U.S. bases remain in Iraq. What's different?

The difference between the Republican crop of candidates is simply the rhetoric of Dems "soft" empire vs. the Repubs "hard" empire. Neither provide the end that U.S. citizens demand, which explains the low approval ratings for the Congress.

Cornel West said it best about Hillary and Kerry in Democracy Matters: "Senators Hillary Clinton and John Kerry are exemplary paternalistic nihilists--contemporary Grand Inquisitors who long to believe in a grand democratic vision yet cannot manage to speak with full candor or attack corruptions of the system at their heart. So they defer to pollsters, lobbyists and powerful corporate interests even as they espouse populist rhetoric and democratic concerns" (p. 36).

We live in an empire. Empire building is evil of the Biblical sort, and unitl we listen to the likes of Michael Eric Dyson and Cornel West, and vote for the candidate who serves our convictions and consciences, we will continue down the path that the British did in the last century, the Dutch, Belgians, Spanish, French, Romans before, to the Fall. Let's hope it doesn't end with a bang.

peace

Is anyone else sick and tired of EXCUSES?

You have the majority.. you have a mandate from the people. Don't just pass one bill... FLOOD BUSH'S OFFICE WITH LEGISLATION TO STOP THIS WAR! ONE GETS A VETO, PASS A NEW ONE.

But instead... we get one bill.. and then excuses.

You're the majority.. you represent the majority... ACT LIKE IT!
