MSNBC's Shuster to GOP Rep: "When Was the Last Time a NY Times Ad Killed Anybody?"

From yesterday's show, when another GOP orangutan, Rep. Martha Blackburn, pretended to be offended by the MoveOn ad:

Shuster: "Let's talk about the public trust. You represent, of course, a district in western Tennessee. What was the name of the last solider from your district who was killed in Iraq?"

Blackburn:"The name of the last soldier killed in Iraq uh - from my district I - I do not know his name -"

Shuster: "Ok, his name was Jeremy Bohannon, he was killed August the 9th, 2007. How come you didn't know the name?"

Blackburn: "I - I, you know, I - I do not know why I did not know the name..." [Snip]

Shuster: "But you weren't appreciative enough to know the name of this young man, he was 18 years old who was killed, and yet you can say chapter and verse about what's going on with the New York Times and Move On.org." [Snip]

Shuster: "But don't you understand, the problems that a lot of people would have, that you're so focused on an ad -- when was the last time a New York Times ad ever killed somebody? I mean, here we have a war that took the life of an 18 year old kid, Jeremy Bohannon from your district, and you didn't even know his name.

No, she doesn't understand, sadly. Because she is the walking embodiment of what a joke our government has become.

She is probably going to vote to cut children's health care with her President, and already has made sure young men and women from her part of Tennessee and the rest of this country keep dying by the bushel in an America-weakening war based upon lies. But she is "outraged" by a newspaper ad.

But seriously, thanks for at least trying David (we need more like you), even if attempting to reason with her is like trying to to teach a wind-up doll to poll vault.

Digg!

the 'congresswoman' did a whole lotta talkin' and speechifyin' (as seems to be the case with politicians) but kept repeating one point said differently. what a shill. "in touch with"? not at all. she is a political being, not a representative of the people at all. i'd be embarrassed to have fostered such offspring.

*starts post-natal abortion movement*

*realizes we already have that program ongoing in iraq*

Tucker would have been kissin' this woman's fanny in a neocon lovefest. Nice to see Shuster go on the attack, which was completely warranted.

Go get 'em, David! It's always nice to have the utter hypocracy of the Repubs exposed on national tv.

Between this guy and Keith Olbermann, might we begin to see more mainstream media actually push the right wing for answers and call them on their hypocrisy?

Probably not, but it's nice to dream.

Thankfully, I have never heard of Ms Blackburn and I hope to never again. Would that the people of Tennessee have a more
substantial choice next election.

We Need More Schusters

While I watch MSNBC frequently, why don't we have people like Schuster on the so-call "Mainstream Media?" We need to have exchanges like this on all the major networks including CNN. Not everyone has the ability to watch MSNBC. Schuster and Olberman will never be aired on a "Major Network" (forget FOX) because the networks cannot afford to lose the sponsors that are lining the Republican pockets.

we would have seen her masturbating all over that guy.

Wow...sure glad I don't live in Tennesee...she is scary.

It's too bad you can't shoot congress critters up with truth serum before going on an interview like this. We would learn one of two things. Either they are so totally brainwashed that they believe the bullshit they spew...or they are the biggest fuckin liars on the planet and they should all be shot.

OK...that's a bit over the top...but you get my drift.

This party hack is the product of one very heavily gerrymandered district- custom designed for a repugnican. It joins the white flight suburbs of Memphis and Nashville with a large swath of largely rural counties to create a highly reliable Neo-Con district. Win the G.O.P. nomination in this district and you are in.

All she did was back peddle, bumble like an idiot, but of course carries on in a fashion that puts her one track mind on display for all of us to see.

It is more than apparent that old "W" sent out an email to have the republican idiots go on the attack against the add about General Betrayus. The add which was extremely accurate and justifiable; I say this because "W" himself stated the General's report would be his own (W's that is) and therefore the general whether he spoke or not was only repeating what "W" wanted him to say. After all, why do think "W" showed up in the Anbar province in the first place; it was not to see first hand the progress that was being made on the ground (he never left the security of the base), but rather to hand the general his report to congress. We are all aware, and most of us knew what the report would say (we have heard it all before) and what the recommendations would be (we knew they needed to draw down the troops already). What really is sad is how many gullible people out there would believe anything that is said and/or report in support of this quagmire that is known as the Iraq War. There are some really dumb people, a lot of them in the military, their families, and republicans in general. Bush learned from Karly (Rove) that if you deflect the truth by hiding behind a lie that blames the Democrats most of the dumb republicans will believe it. I am surprised that more of the idiot drones like; Ann Coulter; Sean Hanity; Bill O’Rielly; etc., etc., have not played on this issue more, I guess they haven’t received their checks yet (from “W”).

The Move.on ad was right on. The general did betray us. This congresswoman is a tool and a dull one at that. Shuster did a great job making the point. The New York Time's ad didn't kill anyone. Now Bush wants $200 billion more for his wars and he is still planning on attacking Iran without just cause. Congress is a total waste. If I recall, it was the New York Times that hustled us into this illegal war in the first place. If they give a discount now, it's a bit late.

All this wah-wah and puffery over an ad that appeared for one day in the NYT which is read by less than 10%? 5%? 1%?of this or any other nation. These Republicans and their fellow travellers are not only jackasses by they are very proud of that fact. I fully realize that we have an anti-intellectual bent in this country, but it's very, very tough to accept that we have a moron bent. Unavoidable, but very tough.

Fake Outrage a typical GOP strategy

You would think the GOP would try a different strategy than sending out their minions to play the "outrage card" every time Bush's failed war strategy rears its ugly head.

David Shuster was too quick for this GOP hack. He cut to the chase and served her a taste of her own medicine with the real outrage of not even knowing the name of last soldier who died in Iraq. Her return volley was weak and insincere.

I doubt if she could have handled what Admiral Fallon said about Gen. Petreaus when he called him "an ass-kissing little chicken shit" because of his "suck-up" behavior around politicians. Admiral Fallon is particularly upset about how the Army is being destroyed by Bush's failed military policies.
Martha would have a cow.
