McCain vs. McCain: Let's Go to the Videotape! [VIDEO]

John McCain can argue with John Kerry but he can't argue with the footage of himself from just days ago, or can he?

The video to your right was put together by The Talking Points Memo. They report:

2008 Republican presidential candidate Senator John McCain (R-AZ) went on Meet the Press Sunday to debate the war in Iraq with Senator John Kerry (D-MA). And what a show it was. With McCain's deluge of devastating points and dizzying rhetorical takedowns, Kerry was clearly no match. But the real contest was the debate between McCain and videographic evidence of statements made previously in the week. We match the two toe-to-toe, and let the viewer decide the ultimate debate champion

Whenever I see videos like this on YouTube or The Daily Show, I'm always entertained but also infuriated because I don't see why the producers of Meet the Press or the regular evening nightly news seem incapable of pointing out these same inconsistencies. They have access to the same footage yet they stubbornly refuse to take that extra step to show the truth behind the GOP's spin.

Assuming there really is a "War on Terror"...

So, I thought, what does the guy who called Petraeus an 'ass-kissing chickenshit' have to say about it?

"From where I sit (or fly, since I spend most of my time in the air), I get the feeling that the majority of American people don't quite get it. This is not a slam, it is not an indictment or accusation, it is just an observation. While there is a lot of talk about the war, I don't think most of us truly understand what it is that we are involved in. I can offer that probably the No. 1 reason is that this conflict does not fit the concept and vision of a war as we have known it--at least in my lifetime."

"This war is not specific to Iraq or Afghanistan, although these countries seem to garner most of the attention"

Okay - so what other countries might be sources of suicide bombers bent on attacking Western interests?

"Largely, underdeveloped countries with poor populations, who need the basics of life, are susceptible to the siren song of terrorists who say, "Look at what you have; we will give you something better." They do not tell them the truth about what comes with this something better. They tell them, "We will give you strong leadership." They do not tell them where they want to lead them, and that is down the road to the terrorist infrastructure that we see manifested in so many places."

Maybe - Saudi Arabia, where those 16 hijackers came from? Maybe Pakistan, where the Taliban have found refuge?

"This fact seems to elude a lot of people. It is not just a conflict in which we have staged actors lined up force-on-force as in conventional warfare. There was that type of fighting in the first several weeks of the thrust into Iraq, but that is not the way it is now. In fact, we are facing a global, non-state terrorist threat in which our overwhelming conventional capability is being challenged asymmetrically."

Here's food for thought from the Asia Times Online,
"The crisis in Pakistan is still unfolding and an increasingly destabilizing situation is developing. And we seem to forget that Pakistan has nuclear weapons; for the first time, it seems within the realms of possibility that these nuclear weapons could fall into the hands of the Islamic militants."

Damn, I got off message again!

Do they have some dirt on Mcain or something? He is just contradicting himself left and right. It's sad, he used to be credible but now he's a joke.

Oh for Christ sake... he's always been a joke. In the last meeting between McCain and Bush, he almost sucked his tits off. He's brain damaged and imbecilic.

McCain is NOT in a pathological state of denial..he IS pathologic and pathetic from the git go. He couldn't get nominated or elected president of a chicken coop! Why does any credible program show his responses. An incredible waste of airtime and video footage!

Just where do these fools come from, Mars? Every goddam day there is talking heads to-ing and froing and accomplishing absolutely nothing! And it's been going on for how long now, 4-5 years, and cost the lives of how many Iraqis? Cost america how many lives? For what? There will never be peace in the Middle East as long as America is there, or any where for that matter as long as there is buffoons and plain liars like mccain, bush etc. Just take a look at the great american successes, a country that can't even manage its own economy is trying to force its will on the rest of the world? Where is the trillions to rebuild after Katrina? And these fools are talking reconstuction in Iraq? Why don't they reconstruct their own back yard?
Greenspan says it's for the oil, so what is the reason for Afghanistan, THE POPPIES?
The sooner the plug is pulled on the "almighty dollar" the better.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

... an ass or did it start when he started kissing the Shrubs?

I have no idea how a man like this STILL believes he has a snowballs chance in hades of being president or even getting the nomination. But then I never thought this country could "elect" an idiotic sociopath either...TWICE, which, I know does bring into question my own judgment.

There has to be an ulterior motive that escapes me for his literally dysfunctional behavior. Did he get that from having his head up the anus of the Shrub too?

You can't understand why shows like meet the press, etc.. won't do this?????

Ok, kids... say it with me... all together now... Its because mainstream media is PROPAGANDA.

It is propaganda to help retain the status quo and to keep the two party system in total control of our politics and to keep our politicians from actually having to bother addressing serious concerns and issues when they don't absolutely have to.

McCain and Kerry... a total loss candidate and a non-candidate are in the press very recently. I guess it keeps us from having to hear about things like.... Golden Boy Shitt Romney blasting Hillary's health care plan... for things that make it identical to the one he signed into law here in Mass.

but I think when he kissed Bush, he lost a big part of himself that he had managed to hold on to through what must have been tougher times than most of us can imagine, when he was a POW. I hope he decides to let go of politics. He clearly doesn't know what he believes anymore. And, as for John Kerry, I just wish he had some emotion about something...having an election stolen from him didn't even bring any feeling to the surface. Let's face it, most Americans don't want to hear anything about changing tactics, etc. What we want to hear is we need to get out of Iraq, and we need to get out now. Of course we can be part of the political solution (if they want us to be), but beyond that, we need to keep our hands off their oil and get out!!! NOW!!!
