The video to your right is Rep. Tom Lantos' opening statement at the congressional hearing on Iraq featuring General David Petraeus (or Betray Us) and Ambassador Ryan Crocker (or Lying Crock of Shit). This comes from the AP:

The introductory remarks by the lawmakers reflected the deep divisions in Congress over a war that has claimed the lives of more than 3,700 U.S. troops.

Petraeus patiently listened to the politicians for a time before he could speak, the commander of 165,000 troops also heckled and criticized by anti-war critics.

"Tell the truth, general," shouted protesters as the four-star general made his way into the crowded hearing room.

if you're not watching or listening to this hearing as it happens - and I have to stop listening myself in a minute - try to find it somewhere when you get a chance.
At least Ambassador Crocker's remarks if nothing else.
If you need some comedy relief, check out the Republican congresswoman's opening remarks as well; she's ranking minority on one of the 2 committees and she's from Florida, but I can't remember her name. She speaks just before Gen. Petraeus attempts to deliver his opening statement, which is delayed some minutes by microphone problems.

plur

.........a "disagreement" with Betrayus(R) the Likudnik warmonger general over a report written by the White House and the AEI and we're supposed to buy this illusion of choice?

Theatre of the absurd or what?

we need to leave iraq says lantos, we will not be involved in "YOUR" civil war... what a joke!

who's civil war? a civil war provoked by the destruction of infastructure, the rape of children by occupying forces, and the forced passing of a constitutional referrendum set up to divide the country.

i love how this guy is saying it's time to go, what he means is it's time to get out of the way of the bloodshed we have created (right after we pass a law to denationalize the country's wealth)...

AND THEY DON'T MAKE HIM SWEAR UNDER OATH TO TELL THE WHOLE TRUTH??? WHY NOT?

What in the hell is going on with these dems??? Its beginning to look more and more like some sort of game they are playing with us when they don't make a key general swear under oath to tell the whole truth. Ray McGovern called out during the mike off incident and yelled to the committee to make the general swear under oath to tell the truth and instead of doing so after so called forgetting to do that, they throw McGovern out of the hearing and still don't make that general swear to tell the truth under oath.

SOMEONE WANT TO TELL ME WHAT GAME THE DEMS ARE PLAYING HERE??? AND WHY HAS NO ONE AT ALTERNET BROUGHT THIS UP AS WELL???? WE LIVE IN SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS TIMES AND YOUR AIDING AND ABETTING BY NOT POINTING THIS OUT.

It throws his entire testimony out the window... THAT IS THE POINT OF STATING THE FACTS ABOUT THE OATH. I would like someone to explain this to me.

A Sickening Cover Story

I watched as much of Petreus and Crocker as I could stand, then looked for a more sane TV program (not easy). Those two mouthpieces maundered on and on while Iraq is falling apart, the people fleeing to Syria save themsleves from Baghdad government death squads if they open their mouths about the massive theft of American money intended for social services. So, the people starve and die while Petreus and Crocker lie and lie and lie as their Commander In Chief requires them to promote their military careers of always obeying their orders !!!

To the tune of The Streets of Laredo

The direction of the fightin's beginnin' to shift
The good news is givin' me quite a lift
There's still horrific attacks in Iraq
But shoot, we're winnin', we're hittin' 'em back

Incremental gains day by day in Anbar
The news on my surge, it ain't bad by far
High casualty rates will likely continue
Our expectations are coming out true

We're holdin' the airport here in Al Asad
Sure the rest of Iraq is lookin' quite sad
Terrorists and insurgents mount terrible attacks
You can trust me to keep giving you all the fac's

We're takin' Iraq back one street at a time
And after all I've got plenty of time
You can't get me out, I'll keep decidin' fine
You can't replace me till two thousand and nine

Thanks for posting this video, because I was not able to stand the greetings and salutations given to General Petraeus, and thus did not watch. I do not consider him a great American. Fighting wars are what generals do, but promoting wars are what bad people do. This congressman is right, out of Iraq now!!!
