Hillary smacks down Karl Rove. Mike Gravel says Dick Cheney should be committed. John Edwards calls for an end for all nuclear weapons development. Is it just me or are these candidates getting better at this? The video to your right includes the most memorable moments from the first Democratic debate in Iowa, compiled by the Talking Points Memo. One of my favorite moments was when George Stephanopoulos asked a fairly annoying question about the candidates' belief in prayer and Kucinich says, "I've been up here for 45 minutes praying to God that you were gonna call on me." Check out the video to your right for more.

Debate was farcical

Stephanopolous clearly had a biased format as he didn't call on Kucinich or Gravel but a couple of times, reserving the bulk of the time for the "front runners". It's no wonder that reformers don't stand a chance with that kind of treatment. Someone should be ashamed of this farce. Kucinich and Gravel have a lot to say and the people should get to listen to them. What a travesty! This is why we never get any change!

Did anyone expect ABC, owned by a corporate rodent, to be fair? If a candidate is not DLC connected, plus is a reformer, he is not going to "get air time." Besides, none of the so-called debates, are real debates. A moderator asking questions isn't a debate. Never was, never will be.
DLC: Democratic Leadership Corporatists!

I watched the whole debate and also the ABC poll. No where have I seen that Dennis Kucinich came in 2nd, just behind Obama and ahead of Hillary Clinton ! The few questions he was asked were clear and consise and always for the best interest of THE PEOPLE, not large corporations.. I wish the above video had given his whole answer not just the good laugh line. I went to the ABC site this morning and they had even left him out of the picture and did not even mention his name and ideas, let alone that he was voted by the PEOPLE the second place winner! I wonder how often this happens that I have not caught? According to the people he is a top tier candidate. His ideas are truly progressive while we just get the same old same old rehashed ideas from who the big corporatios say we like best. Unfortunately, the ones who need Dennis the most have the least to give. And why is he always called a fringe candidate? He stands for the ideals that the Democratic party used to stand for before corporate money took over both parties. Is he a fringe candidate because he is short? A vegan? Or a Peace advocate?

TPM's compilation of "highlights" should be regarded as an embarassment to the trade of journalism. Embarassments to likes of which we've seen more of over the last 8 years than in History combined I'd say.

By the way, some numbers from ABCnews online vote of who won?
As of 1PM EST Monday:

Kucinich 10,921
Obama 8,388
Clinton 5,338
Biden 3,279
Edwards 3,049
Nobody won. I'm voting Republican. 1,526
Richardson 1,066
Nobody won. I'm waiting for Al Gore to get in the race. 1,063
Gravel 970
Dodd 197

While some are not allowed to speak, those that can, do not speak in our interests!

I know there are many voters who don't pay attention to the candidates, only to what the main stream media promotes. And many voters, on election day, open the newspaper to see the recommendations by the editorial staff, and vote accordingly, which results, in yielding their precious choice to MSM's choice.

Our country is in dire straights. It will take much work and dedication to turn things around - like enforcing our Constitution, and major projects like revamping health care and overturning the war-machine mentality of our government, BUT NONE OF THIS CAN HAPPEN IF VOTERS PICK THE STATUS QUO CANDIDATES, like Clinton or Obama or even Edwards; the big 3 chosen by the media as our only possibilities for us to learn about.

There is a formula MSM follows to guarantee who will run and who will win. They count on the voters to get in step and be led to the poles to vote for the CORPORATION's candidates.

WE, THE PEOPLE, must change this by following our own recipe (which they don't want us to catch onto). It's pretty simple - whomever they support and showcase - RUN the OTHER WAY! Candidates like Kucinich - whom I think is the most complete candidate for the people - will never be given a fair shake by MSM. He is not their toy, and he owes them nothing for the favor of being 'given time' to tell us about his plan for America. His plans - not as Clinton and Obama and Edwards tell you - which is what the corporations allow them to think.

Most readers here know how connected Hillary is to big money, and Edwards and Obama have done a better job of hiding whom their real financial backers are - but there's a huge crossover of the same interests giving to all three of these candidates. Obama, while a rather new face in the political arena, is well connected to big money - and now he's chosen to avoid future debates. He is evasive, and if you really listen to what he says - you hear NOTHING. A true pro at hiding what he's thinking and what he will do.

Well, if you haven't had enough secrecy in the presidency with the current administration then you deserve what you'll get if you vote for the shill, Obama!

THE ONLY PROTECTIVE DEVISE WE HAVE IN OUR POWER, IS A SINGLE-SOLITARY VOTE! We must use it wisely - like Jack did, in the children's story about the Bean Stock. Our future is in jeapordy if we will not support and place our vote with the most perfect candidate who will work for us - and not for Corporate America and those whose greed has nearly destroyed our country.

I watched the whole debate and became very uncomfortable watching Dennis Kucinich being ignored for at least 20 minutes, even after all the other candidates were questioned.

The MSMTV [ I think the internet is the real mainstream] says he cannot be elected. Sooooooooooo He seemed to be the MOST progressive and even though he was treated like an outcast he came across a STRONG.

The top 20% of the population have the money and power, but not the numbers to elect. 80% of the population have the numbers to vote for a real change that is in their BEST interest. Kucinich won in THAT debate.

Wake Up People do you think because he is too short he can not win????????

Experience meaning what?

Not that I really care so much between the two of them, but why do people always talk about Hillary as being more experienced than Obama? Since when does being First Lady count as experience?

Obama was an Illinois Senator from 1997 to 2004 and a U.S. Senator from 2005-present. That's over 10 years of experience as an elected official.

Hillary has been a U.S. Senator since 2000, counting less than 7 years experience as an elected official.
