Stephen Colbert Goes Undercover As a Daily Kos Blogger [VIDEO]

Posted by Adam Howard at 12:58 PM on August 16, 2007.

Daily Kos website founder Markos Moulitsas, with the help of Colbert, makes the case for his site and slams Bill O'Reilly's attacks on progressive blogs.

"Just admit Bill O'Reilly's right!" Colbert mockingly pleads. When you see O'Reilly's claims about Daily Kos edited together in rapid-fire style, it's simply mind-boggling. He goes from saying it's "like the Nazi party" to just calling it "a left-wing Nazi hate site." The mainstream press, out of fear or disinterest, has refused to cover this story extensively and has allowed O'Reilly to make his bullshit claims freely. Luckily we have Stephen Colbert on our side. He perfectly parodies the insanity and desperation of O'Reilly's attacks, trying to coax Moulitsas to raise his hand to resemble the "Heil Hitler" Nazi salute. Check out the video to your right for more.

some other European countries. The Daily Kos founder would be indicted, and possibly fined and jailed, for giving that gesture. Even in jest, as a political statement in opposition to facism, or as a historical enactment of Julius Caesar, it is illegal to give the 'roman salute'. Although ex-post facto laws are, supposedly illegal, he better watch his back--- the ADL and Kennedy are trying to enact anti-freespeech and anti-demonstration laws in the US also.....

..."by the transitive property of hate".

You have to love a comedian who remembers algebra. You just have to, no?

And who is this Bill O'Reilly that alternet.org focuses so much attention on? And why does he matter, again?

Bill O'Really turns me on to the greatest stuff! But it is Stephen Colbert who leads me to the drink. I had never heard of Daily Kos before. So, O'Really opens his hateful mouth, out spews the unthinkable, Stephen Colbert grabs it, heals it and sets it out into the world to help millions of people like me, that would have normally missed the catch of the day. Now, I can enjoy Daily Kos and Markos Moulitsas who seems like a wonderful guy.

The only Nazi in this video it Bill and he is too blind to see it or is he?

Stephen Colbert – I love you!!

In Kos' view, the CIA are liberals...

FYI, for Kos, the CIA is a liberal organization. While they may have done some dodgy things long long ago, he doesn't understand why the modern progressive movement has a problem with the agency.

In an interview at the Commonwealth Club from a bit back, he spends quite a bit of time on this theme, even laughing about CIA assassination plots.

Kos has a deeply conflicted view of what a "liberal" is; the CIA is liberal because they are in favor of preserving the status quo: "it's not a very partisan thing to want a calm, stable world ... even if you're protecting American interests..." 15:40, give or take, in Kos' interview, all of which can be heard by clicking on this text, which takes you to the Commonwealth Club website. The clip requires Real Player.

it's all more than passing surprising to hear coming from someone who grew up in El Salvador and claims Archbishop Romero as a hero.

Ridiculous comparisons

I wonder when O' Reilly thinks the Daily Kos founders have incarcerated millions of innocents and gassed them, lynched members of minorities in the middle of the night, terrorized families by burning crosses on their lawns, or sent goon squads to round up anyone they find to be defective.

It's ridiculous, of course, to equate even the most hateful speech with the actual activities of hate groups like the KKK or the power of repressive, violent governments like the Nazis. It's not the left that finds homosexuals, non-believers, the poor, and minorities to be offensive; it's the radical right.

The very nature of liberals and progressives is to be tolerant. One of the few things liberals are intolerant of is intolerance itself, like that of radical theocrats, neocon pundits (who could be more hateful than that harpy, Ann Coulter?), and rightwing ideologues of all kinds.

Yes, some of the comments on liberal sites might go over the line, but they are still just words. The Nazis and other vicious hate groups carried out their agenda with deeds, not just speech. When Ann Coulter is demonized by O'Reilly for saying liberals should be put to death or that we should invade a Muslim country and convert the populace to Christianity, when the jingoists are decried by O'Reilly for calling anyone who does not agree with them "traitors," and when he himself stops his vitriolic nastiness, he might have the moral right to judge. In the meantime, it's just a matter of the rattlesnake calling the garden snake a poisonous viper. (No offense to rattlesnakes, garden snakes or any other vipers!)

Um, I guess I said it all in the title. I could add "worship and adore and what would we do without you" :) And Jon, and Bill Mahr.
What a frightening world, and what an appalling stare our country is in, when our satirical comedians are smarter that those running the country, and we have to rely on them .... and AlterNet, of course .... for the truthiness that we damned well wont get from corporate controlled mainstream media.

It truly is an Orwellian O'Liely world we have watched unfold.
Obviously, O'Liely reverses what is truly KKK and Nazi behavior by him and the whole GOP Fox propaganda machine by calling people that are practicing their rights under the Constitution of freedom of speech and freedom to address your government as KKK'rs.
The fallacy is so mind boggling, but unfortunately his side, where the KKK'rs belong, will eat this up and regurgitate as fact.
WHAT BILL O'LIELY DOES IS AKIN TO YELLING "FIRE' IN A CROWDED THEATER. That is illegal, isn't it?
We need legislation that prohibits opinion pundits from saying that they are legitimate news.

NOTE TO O'LIELY, (Since he obviously follows our blogs)
Next time you look in the mirror, spit at yourself, because
you are the very essence of a Nazi and a KKK member.
