Rachel Maddow Takes a Journey to "Tancredo Land" [VIDEO]

Posted by Rachel Maddow at 4:44 AM on July 27, 2007.

Tancredo’s not gonna be in the presidential race for all that long, but while we've still got to kick around, he could be a perfect case study for the inadvertently psychologically revealing nature of campaign materials.

Tom Tancredo - one of the less noticed republican candidates. But he’s taking credit for John McCain’s campaign falling apart, he’s still seen as the party’s standard bearer, on the republicans’ favorite racist populism issue – immigration.

But Tom Tancredo’s presidential campaign, itself, is a piece of work.

Have you seen the miniseries he’s produced about himself and posted on youtube? it’s called TANCREDOLAND, and it involves for example, tancredo reminiscing fondly about his favorite priest killing a guy

Check out the video to your right for more.

A good piece -- had me laughing -- but the part about the rolling rrrrs -- really....best you left that part out. It's more a parody of yourself than a joke on Tancredo. That's assuming you weren't seriously trying to make a point, which, if you were, zoomed by me completely. But you're still great anyhow -- one of the very best in what's otherwise a vast media wasteland.

Kinda made my skin creep when he was talking about primarily death on each video. But Maddow is cool and finds humor in a creepy subject. Laughed often.

Some dipheads may not understand about the rolling rrrrs -- The parody is of people who overtly roll their rrrrs to impress you with their diction capabilities...a class he had no doubt just finished.

Diphead entry...

God...I'll bet she was soooo happy to see YOU APPROVED anyhow!
Not too many things zoom by your ego, huh??

I am sick of people who are pro immigration always trying to paint those who are against it as being racist. There are literly hundreds of good rerasons for limiting immigration that have nothing to do with racism! For instance, There are currently 38 million Californians, and maybe a thousand mountain lion in this state. It is projected that in the next fifteen years there will be another 20 million californians, but I doubt if there will be any mountain lions left due to their habitat being destroyed to make room for those new people. Your average American has 2.1 children, but your average illegal immigrant has 3.1 children. The boottom line is that with every additional person in California the quality of life will diminish and it dosn't matter if the additional people come from legal or illeagal immigration, migration from other states or a local woman giving birth to three or more children. Because of their higher fertility rate illegal immigrants are an exponetial problem. But I will admit the following: A family of five illeagal immigrants probably have a smaller environmental footprint than some MIT geek who drives a hummer and flies numerouse times a year. The world could be an eden at 3 billion people, it is trouble with 6.6 billion, and it will be a living hell at 10 billion!

Oh Rachel, you sorta scrubbed the outhouse with him didn't ya?! Well, someone in Tancredoland has to do the dirty work when there aren't any immigrants around to do it, eh? ;-)

It's hard to imagine how Skydog could miss your "point". Tom Tancredo (and host of other red-meat Republican true believers) live in a parallel universe. The "point" might not be so deep but it's vitally important that we be reminded constantly, least we fall asleep as we did in the Reagan era. It's not the point so much as the masterful telling. Cheers for Rachel and Layer Cake; you have rapidly become masters of the video podcast form.

Having heard most of Rachel's radio shows since the start of Air America, I can hardly imagine coming to this podcast cold, not knowing the personality animating it. Actually, I think it's essential to connect with her personally before it's possible to fully appreciate her. It may take a little investment of time and effort, but the rewards are worth it. She's a true genius who hasn't yet found her perfect medium.

Just wanted to say that you do a marvelous job and have an exceedingly slick video style. I'd like to see you do some on this cowardly Dem congress we seem to be stuck with.

As to the big "illegal immigrant" obsession that currently rages in southern California and elsewhere, all of the holier-than-thou Reel Amuricans seem to forget that their own forebears got here any way they could, in their own day, for much the same reasons. As to the big deal about their being illegitimate, it seems to me somewhat reminiscent of how we used to think of 'pre-marital' children (bastards, to you who don't dig me) as also being "illegitimate." I wonder how many illegitimate children are among us today?

Unless all you folks who are anti-immigrant are Native American Indians, then I suggest we all head to the Airports/Docks, purchase our tickets, and go back to our countries of origin. Think about it!
