Michael Moore On CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta: "He's Not Telling the Truth" [VIDEO]

Every time Michael Moore appears on CNN, they run a report on Anderson Cooper 360 or The Situation Room trying to rip him apart. It's as if they realize that Moore is too big a story to ignore so they'd better cover him, but his ideas are too troubling to the status quo, so we better also try to discredit them. As Gupta tries to defend his clearly biased report by claiming Moore has "cherry-picked" his numbers (a typical tactic employed by Moore's right-wing detractors), Moore explains that all of his figures are from 2007 and were generated from President Bush's Health and Human Services. Favorite moments: When Larry King called Gupta's report "kinda balanced", and when Moore totally shut Gupta up by pointing out that the CNN logo covered up the Cuba figures Gupta claims Moore was trying to conceal in his film. Later on, (not in the video to your right), Gupta complains that Moore makes it seem like universal health care would cost Americans nothing, even though the film clearly points out that tax money pays for these systems. Gupta apparently can't give movie audiences enough credit to understand such a simple fact. Anyway, check out the video to your right for more.

UPDATE: As promised, Michael Moore has a detailed breakdown of all of Gupta's inaccuracies in this Larry King Live appearance alone and you can read that here.

I had issues with Mr Moore but I have to admit that with these last two CNN interviews he has come out kicking & more than held his own; well done.
When held to the issue it was quite obvious that Larry King cut him off for ad's.
Mr Moore is growing up ,saying it as he sees it & creating some very good discussions.
I think he has gone beyond creating controversy & is finally putting forward some issues that really will help change the lives of the less fortunate.

"Gupta complains that Moore makes it seem like universal health care would cost Americans nothing, even though the film clearly points out that tax money pays for these systems"...

...and tax money isn't money? It's not free, health care doesn't just pop out of nowhere. Taxes have to be raised. Moore makes a good case that universal socialized medicine is better than the current profit driven crap, but it's not free. And IMO, Sanjay Gupta's original report was incredibly biased; the main message I got out of it that health care is an important issue and all the facts should be checked, nothing that would stop me from watching Sicko. Gupta's facts and numbers may be up for debate, nothing completely shatters Moore's argument. And the guy had the balls to take on Moore at his whiniest. He deserves some credit.

And as a liberal, I'm tired of people glorifying Michael Moore... no one seems to care to check his facts; people have gone so far as to say "Michael Moore said it, it must be true!" Glorification and cults of personality are for the facists and totalitarians. Moore makes good arguments for his noble cause, but don't let that cloud your judgment. Everybody lies.

... wondered why CNN uses its journalist to defend a health care system from which he earns a sizeable income? It strikes me as highly unethical for Dr. Gupka to appear as both a journalist and as a critic with a specific bias. But, then, we are talking about CNN, after all.

As an ex-pat American who lives and works in Canada, and having experienced both the US and Canadian health care system, I can attest to several truths in Sicko.

First, the American system needs a massive overhaul. The private sector can or will fix it because there is too much money at stake for them to do so willingly.

Second, of course taxes pay for national health. Everyone in Canada knows it and accepts it as part of what it costs to live in a civil society.

Third, in both Farenheit 9/11 and in Sicko, Moore has carefully fact checked the assertations made in the films. Sources are cited in detail on his website

More quacking about "socialized medicine".

Every time somebody brings up the obvious fact that our health care system sucks, the Repug puppets in the MSM start bitching about "socialized medicine". I am damned sick and tired of the Repugs and their buzz phrases like "socialized medicine", "cut and run", "tax and spend","executive privilege", "family values", etc. ad nauseum.

Obviously Gupta is another puppet of the rightwing "Noise Machine". His opinion is worthless, just like that of all MSM journalists other than Keith Olbermann, their token liberal.

Blue Cross has a $2 million campaign trying to stop healthcare reform in Calif. These insurance companies are gonna go out kicking and screaming as long as we stick together in this reform.

whoa! hold on! Well, yeah Michael Moore isn't perfect, and so aren't the rest of us. Are we going to follow blindly and play the system's game by blaming the messenger? Who's the biggest liar? MIchael's slightly (if so) incomplete data OR the system (Bush adm. the biggest example so far) that has brought you a bigger income gap bet rich and poor, tax breaks for rich people, an unnecessary war based on lies, torture, unparalleled corruption and political cronyism, and widespread attacks on minorities, poor and unemployed, children, the elderly, the sick etc etc etc???? Who deserves a more united opossition? Those who support this mess or those of our own who are trying to inform people?

Whose lies have the biggest impact on people's lives?
I mean, do a few obscure numbers obliterate completely the OBVIOUS fact that there's a health care crisis in this country? I hope you'll agree there is no comparison.

Gupta, as part of the corporate media, have done nothing but gloss over, ignore and otherwise glorify by complicit silence these system-wide crises. In fact, the whole american system is broken, and Michael Moore has done an invaluable (yes, imperfect, but who else is doing something near as effective in educating the uneducated on the issues?) service of pointing that out. A bit more perspective, people!!!!!!

Gupta is a well trained intelligent mainstream physician and a decent traditional health reporter.

BUT HE HAS NO GRAVITAS, CREATIVITY OR WISDOM

He is mainstream media all the way to the bank.

His days are numbered. Moore is hastenening his demise!
