Republican Mike Huckabee's candidacy is so pathetic that the only way he's generated any interest lately is with an interview with Marie Claire where he's come out strongly against...the mini-skirt. Maddow sheds some light on Huckabee's curious past and explains what is so disturbing to Huckabee about the mini-skirt in the video to your right.

The Look in His Eyes

I've seen several inteviews with Mr.Huckabee and he really comes off as a nice, sincere guy.
BUT the look in his eyes, I've seen before and that's a little scary. Kinda like some kinda whacko.. kinda like Katherine Harris or Dubya or Ted Haggard..
So he doesn't like thigh meat or I'm guessing bikinis and he doesn't believe in evolution.
Tight buts drive me nuts, so that will be the deal breaker for his campaign. Yeah and the evolution thing, yeah that's important.
Here's hoping you CAN keep the candidates from running the asylum.
Good luck with that.

Any chance we could start printing bumper stickers that read, "RUN, RACHEL, RUN!"? She makes so much more sense than, well, anybody! BTW, did you notice that Huckabee's permitting visible arms, legs and hair...did not include the face of the American woman? This scary guy is trying to pass himself off as EveryMan, and if he is, WE ARE ALL IN REAL TROUBLE.
Thanks, Rachel--you make my day.

I'd vote for Rachel in a heartbeat--mini skirt or no.
Others I'd vote for: Randi Rhodes, Katarina VendenHeuvel, and maybe John Edwards.

He was saying this in the wake of Britny, Lindsay, and some others exposing their privates - which I agree is their own business. He didn't call for a ban. You can take him to task, but let's be fair.

Oh goody, now we know what gives Huckabee a woody. Thighs and their logical conclusion. With Ashcroft it was boobs, even boobs on statues. Men are so easy to figure out.

I have the sense that Huckabee's problems with women go a little deeper. His "asking for it" comment reminds me that he was instrumental, as governor of Arkansas, in paroling Wayne Dumond, a convicted rapist who became a wingnut cause celebre because he raped a high school girl who is distantly related to Bill Clinton. After his release Dumond was arrested in Missouri for raping and then murdering another woman.

Let's not forget too that Huckabee opposes abortion even in cases of rape and incest. There is a contingent of wingnutters who maintain that women can't get pregnant as a result of rape, because the trauma of the rape supposedly prevents conception. This has about as much scientific validity as "creation science" but evidently huge numbers of anti-choicers believe it to be true. It wouldn't surprise me to learn Huckabee is one of them. After all, who needs science or life experience when they've got God whispering sweet nothings into his ear?

So, everytime this guy sees a mini-skirt (and, my God, they’re ALL OVER the place!!) it screams to him, “Hey, there’s a vagina under here!! And under there! OMG, over there, too!! And in a junior high school to boot?"

No wonder the guy keeps renewing his marriage vows.

My theory is that now that he's has lost so much weight he probably does not want any competition when HE wears HIS mini-skirt... :)

I'm surprised that the academic radical feminists aren't supporting Huckabee on this. After all, a woman has the right to do what she wants with her body . . . unless it conflicts with the collectivist agenda of the Dworkin/MacKinnon quasi-Marxist feminists. After all, any woman who wears a miniskirt is reinforcing all the patriarchal stereotypes and is therefore holding back the progress of all women . . .
