Chong Exposes Absurdity of Paris Hilton Coverage [VIDEO]

Posted by Adam Howard at 12:41 PM on June 13, 2007.

Comedian Tommy Chong, of all people, takes on a talking head about the silliness of the Paris Hilton coverage and draws the mock ire of Stephen Colbert.

First of all, I don't get why Tommy Chong was being invited on MSNBC in the first place to discuss Paris Hilton's trials and tribulations. I guess because he's a celebrity who's had brushes with the law? Anyway, the network's Contessa Brewer clearly wasn't prepared to be confronted by someone who'd point out how ridiculous it is that Hilton is being covered so voraciously while the guys behind Enron and a similarly negligent Mel Gibson have been generally given a pass by the mainstream media. Check out the video to your right to see the footage and Stephen Colbert's take on it.

...covering such similarly important topics as: the destruction of the environment, the Iraq war, the destruction of American's rights under the constitution, so on and so forth.

Clearly pop culture has become so pervasive that even someone like me that hasn't watched TV in 7 years 6 years cannot avoid knowing who Paris Hilton is and what she's up to.

Jesus christ! It's sickening. I don't give a damn about any of these people.

The media just seizes onto these random stories and won't let them die.

OJ simpson

that chick who got killed by her husband and dumped in the river

the woman in a coma being taken off life support

Distraction after distraction, none of it worth knowing about or even close to being considered newsworthy.

The rich aren't subject to the same rules as the rest of us, apparently.
Maybe she should call George and Laura Bush.
George can advise her how to handle the DUI and Laura can advise her how to avoid prosecution and jail time. Why you ask?
Because George knows drinking, partying and DUI's from personal experience.
The big ONE is Laura had a car wreck when she was a teenager and killed a guy!
No arrest, no prosecution, not a fine nor a criminal record... NADA, ZIP...
There is no statute of limitations for the prosecution of manslaughter... Right? Well, we can only hope.
Had these events unfolded for me(as a freckle faced teen) I would probably still be in jail.
Just imagine how the events would have unfolded for a Black or Hispanic young person.

Wouldn't it be great if Tommy replaced O'reilly on Fox? Or how about if he replaced Clinton for pres candidate? What a bad joke the corporate media are as they keep rolling with Paris Hilton or OJ or other crapolla! Or is it that Americans want this baloney? I don't think so because when shown something of value we the people pay attention and want more.

"When you watch television you get reality or what major multi-national corporations want you to accept as reality. Whoever controls what you see controls what you think...that's why it's called 'programming'". Disinformation host Richard Metzger.
The news as we use to know it is the news of yesteryear. Today, news doesn't make money which is the bottom line. And when we do have real news stories it is relegated to page six rather than the front page. That's why we have tabloid news and opinionated talk shows that instead of getting the real news, the host is always trying to intimidate, embarrass, loud talk and even disrespect the guests on the show.
So if you want to be informed, before you believe mainstream media "news," ask yourself these important questions? DID YOU GET....
The whole story?
Information about the source?
Important background?
A biased perspective?
A prepared script?
In all these questions were you told the who, what, where, when and why?
