"The Entire Government Has Failed Us" [VIDEO]

Posted by Adam Howard at 5:06 AM on May 24, 2007.

In a powerful edition of his "Special Comment", Keith Olbermann says that the Democrats capitulation on the Iraq War funding bill amounts to their "Chamberlain moment".

"Who among us will stop this war of lies?," asks Keith Olbermann. He, like most progressives right now, is deeply disappointed in the Democratic-controlled Congress for caving in to President Bush’s demands for the Iraq War funding bill. As of right now only two 2008 Democratic presidential candidates (Edwards and Dodd) have come out against this new bill, which has optional benchmarks instead of the timetable for withdrawal the overwhelming majority of Americans want. Olbermann rips into President Bush and his Democratic enablers with a gusto that would make Edward R. Murrow proud. As he says in the video to your right, "this has been a shameful and bipartisan betrayal."

It is obvious that our government is broken, our country is broken, and our sanity is broken. I have not and will not salute the flag until George W. Bushit is out of Washington, and I hope to outlive him so I can sp(h)it on his grave. In the meantime, I will be looking for a town hall meeting with my congressman, who will get an earful-although I know he did not vote to continue this funding.

I am so sick of all of this.

Someone should refresh my memory, the Dems were elected to do what the majority of the American people want, right? So you would assume that would mean putting in timetables, or checks on the Executive (see: History, 4th Grade), or anything. But no, their esteemed leaders Reid and Pelosi, along with their minions, decided to do the politically expedient, not the right, thing since the WH would hammer them while they were on vacation. From NYT: "That criticism seemed more politically threatening to them than the anger Democrats knew they would draw from the left by bowing to Mr. Bush."

Pardon my French, but f*&k you. You weren't elected to have a nice vacation. I don't care if your latest fund raising or site seeing trip is less happy time. Either a. grow a pair and do what you were elected to do, or b. resign. There's no "middle ground" here. Yes, Bush played them like a fiddle and disgustingly, as Keith said, "held the troops hostage"; but you said "Please, do it again and again and we'll give up".

As KO says, we're watching Obama, Clinton, etc. And Reid, Pelosi, et al. Do the people's work or get the f*&k out.

First he's wearing a pink tie, second he's using too many big words that the average drunken imbecile in America won't understand.

His audience really narrows down to college educated liberals and he doesn't seem to have any goal of expanding it.

I had been enjoying the grilling of Gonzales up until now, but suddenly I feel like I've been duped. Maybe it HAS all been "political theater" to placate those of us who've been hungry for some justice. And yet Gonzales is STILL in office, and meanwhile the war and Guantanamo and all the other crap continues... and with no real opposition.

If the Dems don't actually change anything, what the hell good are they? They're like pest control people who come to your house and shine a flashlight around--"Yep, you got cockroaches all right"--and then leave. In fact, they drop some tasty crumbs for the bugs as they leave, tut-tutting about the filthy insects.

As usual you are DEAD ON.

I have this fear that when November 2008 comes around, Bush/Cheney will pull something (like an attack on Iran), declare martial law and stop the election. Bush and Cheney are dictators, pure and simple....and this lilylivered Congress will do nothing to stop him.

The people have NO ONE to represent them other than a bunch of corporate shills. I am seriously starting to wonder if the more radical elements of our society have it right: It will take an armed revolution to get this morally bankrupt government back on track!

Let's face it: Nobody gives a DAMN about US anymore.

Aside from hailing Keith's blast, not only at Bush but at the Democratic establishement, let's also remind everyone that this is a group which is inclined, by nature, to evil. The handwriting is all over the wall, there are serious preparations for a full take-over of the government, including total control by the schmok in the White House. And the concentration camps are all ready. Think this is crazy? As Casey Stengel used to say:
"Look it up"
And, one last thing: Keith, watch your back, please, for I don't put anything past these scumbags.

I am an old Marine patriot for peace and justice. Americans are too busy shopping till they drop, and watching sports or Ammerican Idol on TV. The average American does not read one book a year and never searches for truth. Keith had no sex or violence or special effects during his talk so the twelve second attention span of most would have forced them to get another beer, change the channel and belch. Where the hell are the rest of the commentators? They are sucking up to Bushies and advocating more killing in Iraq. This government and media have shamed our Nation. O'Reilly and his bunch are the anti-Americans and un-patriotic ones! The demsocrats are a total disgrace and traitors to those of us who gave them their jobs. We nedd to kick out every one of these "representatives" and most of the Bushies should be prosecuted for war crimes. We can't wait for Marshal Law. We The People must take back this Republic and never let the robber barons buy it again! ready for revolution.

A revolution is needed all right but what kind? I think it has to be a revolution of love, like the ones that toppled the Roman and British empires, not like the violent French and Bolshevik ones. I know they've been co-opted and corrupted but they did initially succeed by the power of love. The Red Brown and Blue Party advocates for The Lover Government, for a revolution in consciousness, for an idea whose time has come.

But nobody knows or seems to care.

President Bush
President Bush has signed a directive granting
extraordinary powers to the office of the president in
the event of a declared national emergency, apparently
without congressional approval or oversight.

The "National Security and Homeland Security
Presidential Directive" was signed May 9, notes Jerome
R. Corsi in a WND column.

It was issued with the dual designation of NSPD-51, as
a National Security Presidential Directive, and
HSPD-20, as a Homeland Security Presidential
Directive.

The directive establishes under the office of the
president a new national continuity coordinator whose
job is to make plans for "National Essential
Functions" of all federal, state, local, territorial
and tribal governments, as well as private sector
organizations to continue functioning under the
president's directives in the event of a national
emergency.

"Catastrophic emergency" is loosely defined as "any
incident, regardless of location, that results in
extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or
disruption severely affecting the U.S. population,
infrastructure, environment, economy, or government
functions."

(Story continues below)

Corsi says the president can assume the power to
direct any and all government and business activities
until the emergency is declared over.

The directive says the assistant to the president for
Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, currently
Frances Fragos Townsend, would be designated as the
national continuity coordinator.

Corsi says the directive makes no attempt to reconcile
the powers created for the national continuity
coordinator with the National Emergency Act, which
requires that such proclamation "shall immediately be
transmitted to the Congress and published in the
Federal Register."

A Congressional Research Service study notes the
National Emergency Act sets up Congress as a balance
empowered to "modify, rescind, or render dormant" such
emergency authority if Congress believes the president
has acted inappropriately.

But the new directive appears to supersede the
National Emergency Act by creating the new position of
national continuity coordinator without any specific
act of Congress authorizing the position, Corsi says.

The directive also makes no reference to Congress and
its language appears to negate any requirement that
the president submit to Congress a determination that
a national emergency exists.

It suggests instead that the powers of the directive
can be implemented without any congressional approval
or oversight.

Homeland Security spokesman Russ Knocke affirmed to
Corsi the Homeland Security Department would implement
the requirements of the order under Townsend's
direction.

The White House declined to comment on the directive.

I am beside myself with rage at those Democratic PUSSIES who caved in to Bush. This is the perfect time to recommend to one and all: Read Al Gore's new book, The Assault On Reason. In it, he outlines the structure and progress of the naked and wanton power grab by the confluence of far-right government, religion, corporate greediots and warmongers — and what we can — must — do about it. You can order it right here. It will leaving you shaking with both fear and rage, and move you to start doing whatever it is in your power to do, to set things to rights.

I hate to write this, but I am so depressed about what's left of our country I don't know whether to cry or throw up or both. The high crimes of this administration are too long to write about here....and the Dems....well, they are Republicans in sheep's clothing.

Where are the protesters? Well, some are out there, but the news media won't cover them, or anything else opposing this madman.

Hang on, everyone, it's only going to get worse. If he can keep getting his way, even with a Democratic Congress, there is no joy in Mudville. And there will never again be joy in Mudville, or anywhere else.

and apparently, we can't even protest it with Tshirts!!!!! What is THAT all about???

I give up

Keith gets it. The government of corrupt party politics has failed us. It takes a brave and courageous person to speak the truth. Now what? Can't trust the republicans. Can't trust the democrats. Who's left? Independents. There is only one independent in Congress now. Bernie Sanders. He is an amazing person. As an independent he is able to get things done based on what needs to be done. Party people get things done according to what the party needs done. Party politics is anti-people.

Another post suggested it is time for a revolution. If you understand our political process you would understand that every election in this country is a bloodless revolution. It is a changing of the guards, leadership, the whole kit and kaboddle without the killing and fighting. I am so angry with our government and am intent on a revolution that will make a difference. A revolution that would change for the better our politicial demeanor. How? By kicking out the card carrying, corrupt politicans and elect ing independents, like ourselves. Basically we are not politicians but ordinary people doing ordinary things. Electing party politicians to represent us really doesn't make much sense. But for some unexplained reason we keep electing these aliens to represent us. They do not think, act or even pretend anymore to know or care about us as people. They care about getting elected and representing and promoting themselves and the party. Case in point. Congress voted to fund the war. Every elected official elected on the promise that they will vote to end the war, has breached their oath of office. How many times are we going to be tricked and lied to before we get it? I'm done playing this stupid game.

You want a revolution then elect an independent. Preferable one that is not running for office. Here's a novel idea. People pick the person they want to represent them not the other way around. Politicians running for office begging for your votes is not an election of choice. It is a competition and amounts to an appointment based on something other than intent to serve. Our original representatives were picked by the people. Many of them didn't even want to serve. They had families and crops and businesses to take care of. It was a personal sacrifice to give up their time to serve in government. But many did it out of a sense of duty and responsibility to the new republic. Most, if not all, of our original representatives were farmers, merchants, teachers, etc. They all had a life other than politics. Who makes a better representative? Who do you trust? Time to get back to basics. The Basics is what this country is all about. Getting back to what made us great is how we can become great again.

The corporation claw
The rich control the government, the media the law
To make some kind of difference
Then everyone must know
Eradicate the fascists, revolution will grow
