A bit of an oxymoron I would think. Such conjunctions perpetuate the notion that Jewishness is derived from heredity, through blood. Judaism is a religion. Being Jewish is a cultural trait, something acquired not inherited. One could no more be a "Jewish Mormon" than a "Jewish Muslim." You hear of other such juxtapositions as “secular Muslim” or “secular Jew” - both of which attribute some mythical finality to the accident of birth. Utter nonsense. You never hear of a "secular Catholic," or a "Jewish Catholic," do you? The same holds true for Arabs. They are not united by blood but by culture - language, customs, arts, etc. They are a people that encompass many racial characteristics, as do Jews. Agglomerating them into one group is a Western convention that makes it easy to identify and formulate policy – and/or discriminate against. Time to put an end to such foolish designations.

Judaism is one of the 3 great monotheistic religions - like it or not. Being Jewish is defined via the mother, being Christian or Moslem is defined via the Father. That's all to it - plenty though but that's it.

If I decide tomorrow for one reason or another to change my religion I can become a Christian, a Moslem or .... whatever. I will, therefore, no longer be a Jew.

I am always amazed at the vast efforts which are put in to "prove" that Judaism is an ethnicity/race/nation - choose for yourself. As history teaches only the Zionists and Hitler try(ied) to prove that Judaism is more than a religion. Isn't it enough to be a religion, a culture = therefore a way of life? What does it matter anyway?

PS Reminds me in a way of the American dilemma in Iraq: the try at all cost to prove that sectarian violence is the reason for the disaster = Sunni Moslems against the Shia Moslems and against the Kurds. Well - has ever anyone given it a thought that the Kurds are Sunni Moslems??? Sure not.
