In an impassioned speech before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee yesterday, Democratic Chairman Joe Biden ripped into the president and Republicans, asking them, essentially, "What the hell is your plan? What the hell are you thinking? Where can this end up?"

Biden lists the various casus belli (bellies?) and notes that all have either been flat out wrong or dealt with, causing him to state, a bit cautiously, that the mission "no longer has the force of law."

We could've used this speech 3 years ago -- it's been clear that there's no military solution to Iraq for some time now -- but now that the public will is overwhelmingly there, the politicians are, bit by bit, following....
