On Bill Maher's Real Time, a staid Major General Eaton (who was, at one time, charged with training Iraqi troops) does serious damage to the Republican relationship with the troops. And he does it in that patented straight-laced, straight-forward military style. It's absolutely devastating.

In addition to thanking God for the Democratic takeover of Congress, Eaton lays the blame for Walter Reed at Rumsfeld's feet and responds to Maher's theory that the troops have an abusive relationship with Bush (the worse he treats them, the better they like him) thusly:

"We've got this thing that so many military believe that Republican administrations are good for the military. That is rarely the case. And, we have to get a message through to every soldier, every family member, every friend of soldiers that the Republican party, the Republican dominated Congress has absolutely been the worst thing that's happened to the United States Army and the United States Marine Corps."
Big thanks to John Harrison for the clip.

Digg!

Mythology Already Broken....

The percentage of troops who consider themselves Republicans has dropped a whopping 15% under W. There is a still cadre of hard-core Bush supporters left in the military...the ones that get to sit in the air-conditioned Pentagon...Yet, the seismic shift has already begun. Three years ago Bush was treated like a "rock star" when he traveled to military bases...Now, he just gets a polite, professional welcome. Still, Bush and Cheney continue to use the military folk as favorite stage props/backdrops for their propaganda sessions (I mean “speeches”) because they know that the troops are not allowed to openly be disrespectful. I think with the "surge" and Walter Reed the political damage will last for decades…no longer will the military vote be considered to be solid Republican.

This was well stated, fascinating, and encouraging. It is always a comfort to hear someone speak the truth from the heart, and to speak with knowledge and common sense.

THIS COMBAT VETERAN SAYS IT'S ABOUT TIME!

It's about time more of the high ranking brass speak out against this corrupt and morally bankrupt human shitwave masquerading as an administration.

As dumbya's QUAGMIRE in Iraq degrades our military more every day, the military itself will realize how catastrophically dangerous it is and it's long term implications.

Equipment is broken and is not being replaced because there is no money.

A Stars and Stripes poll taken last year showed that over 70% of our soldiers in Iraq would NOT be reenlisting when their current enlistment is up.

The military has been forced to TRIPLE the number of recruiters, lower it's enlistment standards (now accepting non high school grads and felons), raise the maximum enlistment age THREE TIMES (from 32 to 35 to 39 to 42), lower it's recruitment quotas and increase enlistment bonuses (some to over $90,000.00) and they STILL cannot recruit enough bodies because of dumbya's QUAGMIRE in Iraq.

WHEN will this madness end?

As a combat Veteran who spent many years in the military I can tell you honestly that our military CANNOT continue to sustain these types of losses. Something's gotta give sooner or later.

All the gung ho guys in the military have FINALLY figured out what people like us have been saying for over 4 years now....IRAQ IS A MISTAKE. WE HAVE NO FUCKING BUSINESS IN IRAQ.

More importantly, it's time for the Democrats to grow a pair of balls and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. I for one, am fed up with hearing he Dems say "there's nothing we can do about it"....BULLSHIT! The Dems control the HOUSE AND THE SENATE and "there's nothing we can do about it?"

BRING OUR TROOPS HOME FROM IRAQ NOW!

END DUMBYA'S QUAGMIRE IN IRAQ!

I would like to see an honest report about how dubya, Cheney, rummy and their ilk have tried and in some cases suceeded in turning our top military guys into typical corporate YES men. You're right boss - That's how we'll do it.
What a way to ruin a proud military career. What about the dodos ex military getting paid by Fox (and CNN) to attempt to justify the unjustifiable? It certainly would be an eye raiser to get the full story as to why (and how) General Myer's niece got the cushy well paid job as head of all things Immigration. Does anyone dream that she would have received this plum if her uncle has been truthful regarding the Iraq disaster?

Excellent comments from all and God Bless Gen. Eaton---BUT, Bush and Cheney and Rumsfeld never did and never will give one Goddamn about the troops---dead or alive! To Bush and Cheney, they're simply expendable "walking guns!" Much like the "enforcers" of the Mafia. Bush doesn't care about ANYONE worth less than $15,000,000 ("the Haves and the Have Mores" as he calls them.) What Bush and Cheney and their gang of thieves DO CARE about is OIL---because control of Middle East OIL allows The Empire to roll on and on and over everybody! We forget Iraq and Iran are as much our foreign policy as our energy policy.

Bush has intentionally stuck us in the Middle East for the next 40 years and with Congress bought and paid for by BIG OIL---there will be lots of yelling and screaming---BUT, no way out!

Unfortunately, I think a draft is the only thing that will really wake this country up. When you look back at Vietnam, the reason people were in the streets protesting was because any one of them was eligible to be drafted. With this war, Americans can sit comfortably at home and argue about the war, but because they have no vested interest, it really doesn't affect them. With a son turning 16 soon, the thought of him possibly being drafted in two years makes me go to protests, write letters, etc. to do all I can to bring our troops home now! Oh yeah, I love the people who are for the war, but do you see any of them volunteering to go over them. I say, "Let's send them and their sons and daughters!"

We owe the troops who have been injured.....

..........in this stupid, unnecessary war support for the rest of their lives. Free access to VA hospitals isn't nearly enough. This support would make war so incredibly expensive that Bushit wouldn't be able to hide the cost. I think that the support for injured troops should come right out of the personal pockets of Bushit and his stooges; permanent poverty might wake them up. The soldiers have done their sacrifice and it's time for the "leaders" to do theirs.

Now if this clip could only be aired on mainstream news programs... including Fox. But it will never happen.
I've noticed even on C-SPAN, if a caller mentions or asks about the PSA's (Production Security Agreements) for the Iraq oil, the host immediately takes the next caller and the guest is not required to respond.
