The Democratic leader in the Senate and the Nevada Democratic Party have just announced the cancellation of the highly-controversial, Fox-sponsored presidential debate.

(Of course, the Democrats should never allow the laughably-Republican FOX to lay any official claim to Democratic anything, let alone a showcase of its leadership in the lead up to an election, but...)

The dealbreaker, according to Dems, was remarks made by Fox President Roger Ailes last night, likening Barack Obama to Osama bin Laden (video, right) -- a move that piles idiocy atop idiocy given the fact that his network shamefully pushed a similar fraudulent story recently; since debunked and artfully packaged by Robert Greenwald in this VIDEO.

Mr. Ailes was receiving a First Amendment Leadership Award.

As we reported here a couple of days ago, John Edwards had already backed out, saying that "We're definitely going to debate in Nevada, but we don't see why this needs to be one of them."

Then, yesterday, Harry Reid distanced himself from the decision to work with FOX in the first place, telling bloggers "I don't like FOX News," while PoliticsTV declined FOX's invitation to webcast the debate stating that "FOX’s offer was as one-sided as a Bill O’Reilly diatribe." FOX had demanded that all re-broadcast rights remain the property of FOX.

On top of these high-profile criticisms were a series of campaigns working vigorously at the local and national levels to make this happen: A MoveOn petition charging that "FOX is a mouthpiece for the Republican Party, not a legitimate news channel" amassed 265,000 signatures, BlogPac launched its own campaign -- assisted by AlterNet and numerous blogs -- and local Nevada Democrats passed a resolution calling on the state Dems to drop FOX.

It seems pretty clear that the power of the netroots and local politics have asserted themselves as influential emerging forces yet again. After all, earlier today the Nevada Democratic Party's Spokeswoman, Kirsten Searer told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that: "We have no intent to sever [our] relationship [with FOX] at this point."

Matt Stoller, president of BlogPac and major netroots organizer, commented: "The lies of FOX News and Roger Ailes have no place in public discourse, journalism, or the Democratic Party presidential debates... FOX sees truth as the enemy, and misinformation as a tool to hurt their political opposition."

Obama joke

You know, I actually hear the Obama joke as a jab at Bush, not the Dem. Not really a serious one, but still it seems to me the laugh is about Bush not having enough brains to tell the difference between two similarly named individuals.

Otherwise, there isn't much of a joke there as far as logic goes. I mean, what is supposed to be the funny part?

If it's Ann Cloulter, okay, that's her joke and punch line, "Hey, don't you hate Dems...ha ha ha!", but it kind of seems like anyone with at least two brain cells to rub together requires there to be some basic comedic premise in a joke.

What is the premise here, Obama is evil? That's not a comedy riot. Hate usually doesn't in itself make a comedic premise, even in racist jokes. Provides the motivation, surely, but usually theres at least some form of cleverness in the construct.

I'm reminded of the Polish joke in Raising Arizona. The joke has no premise, and therefore the real comedy is that the person telling the non-joke about Poles being mentally deficient, is in fact betraying his own metal deficiency.

Sounds more like a good natured jab at one of their own who is renouned for having problems with nouns. And verbs. And whatever you call those things that are made up of nouns and verbs and other stuff all strung together like...

Regardless, hooray for the Dems being just smart enough not to shoot their own toe off in going with FOX! And hooray for everyone who helped make them come to their senses!

If this corpulent fool is the best the right can find to lead their television propoganda machine, it's no wonder your country is in such bad shape under their rule. I mean, the level of wit, subtlety and/or intelligence - not really sure what the wingnut was going for - here was sophmoric at best . . . maybe more like sophmoronic.

FINALLY ! The Democrats are starting to grow some bats and balls and learning that you don't go where you're bound to be set up in a "fixed" game against you !

Fox Noise Channel

When you pay your cable bill, many channels get a 'cut' of what you mail in every month- one of these is Faux Newz Channel. Not only shouldn't anybody be watching this propaganda machine- we should be regularly contacting Time-Warner, Comcast, Cox or whoever we get our cable from and ask that it be removed from our cable package. Better yet, tell them that you wanted it blocked and do not wish one dime of your money to support it. Raise enough hell and they will block it from coming into your home. They won't like it, but have the ability and will do it to keep your business if you hold your ground.

When the cable company gets enough of these, they will lean on Faux to tome down their unrelenting propaganda campaign.

Further, get a list of advertisers on their fake news channel and contact them regarding their support. Inform them that continuing to advertise on Faux Newz may well cost them your business. Advertisers and ad agencies are chickensh*t when controversy shows up and will back down if pressed firmly for a long enough time.

Murdoch understands one thing- MONEY. When it starts to hit him in the pocket, he will take notice.

Clinton-Murdoch conspiracy? Same old deal with the 'free' press

like the Australian conglomerate who is buying a bunch of US papers with, oddly, the editorials to support the NAFTA 'super'highway (TransTexasCooridor). Even more oddly the same private equity firm that bought the local newspapers from Texas to Minnesota (IH-35) has as their main investment business private tollways. They also are buying out Guilliani's company that does tollways. Weird deal. Billary met with Rupert months ago. Documented. This is a fixed deal. Murdoch was great friends with Blair also (the so-called 3rd way and Clintonesque stylings- or vice-versa actually). Hearst, Murdoch, imbeded reporters, fake NBC stories on exploding trucks, fake CBS stories on Bush draft dodging, fake 'stories' and editorials to support Bush's 'no child left behind' bs (millions spent from our gov't on this fake news), commericals on 'sex ed' and 'drugs' which prove to be ineffective or even worse, fake news stories on Iraq's threat to support Bush/Blair war, fake stories so we can ethnically cleanse the Serbs under Clinton, etc etc etc. Like all gov't programs its a kickback to certain key fundraisers and contributors. It is propaganda on all political sides (which, obviously, are really the same but a fake, fixed game to confuse the average joe.)

Backbone building?

Ok, now that we see a little bit of backbone building, how about a couple or three impeachment proceedings? Huh??? Let's not play up the stupidity of having a Democratic Presidential debate on FOX and then the Democratic change of mind. It only serves the right. THis should have quietly slid under the rug and been ignored. Move on to important business, forget that it happened. THe right does not play up it's downfalls, the left, ignorant as it is, does and allows it to be so time after time- showing their naivity. Does anyone have a sense of strategy on the left? If so, better get them front and center, a whole lot of heavy lifting needs to be done. Faster would be better, time's running out. Start with the thrombotic Mr. Cheney.

Bring back the equal time laws-but then Faux News would have nothing to say, and most of the AM radio dial would disappear.

Ailes, a man who has done more for fascism than martha stewart has done for insider trading gets a first amendment award? Are they out to end satire: which died the day that Kissenger got the Noble Peace Prize. Nobel: the military dynamite company.

Delete the Channel

I've made it a habit to delete the Fox News Channel on every TV I come in contact with. All you have to do is grab any tv remote and hit the "menu" button. Scroll down the menu until you find the "channel setup." This feature is on all tv's and allows you to add and delete individual channels. Make Fox go away, one tv at a time. It's not illegal, don't worry about it.

However, he is still a wheezing, corpulent, morbidly obese syphilitic. He reminds me of those descriptions of 18th century dropsy ridden aristocrats - he probably had his nurse drain his legs before his performance just so that he could stand.
