Before we get to the cowardly administration's masked men, a big caveat: Whether Iran was helping Shia insurgents or not, it's still not even a baby step toward a disastrous war. Read Joshua's post on why we would even care HERE.

Over the weekend the press actually had the gall to report that 3 unnamed defense and intel figures had proof that Iran was arming Shiite militias in Iraq. Unnamed. Why? Dunno. Just 'cause.

Yesterday, Peter Pace, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff told Voice of America: "We know that the explosively formed projectiles are manufactured in Iran. What I would not say is the the Iranian Government per se knows about this." Video right....

Still, beware. If Pace were to have an epiphany tomorrow this would still be a relatively minor issue. The point here is that the intelligence was TOO WEAK FOR ANYONE TO GO ON RECORD IN SUPPORT OF IT.

Sorry for the shouting.

In the second video, CNN reports (HT: ThinkProgress) that whether the weapons came from high up or low down, whether it was known about by the Iranian government or not, it appears that Iranian manufactured weapons went to SCIRI, whom Bush has praised repeatedly....

Blaming Iran--history repeats itself

Read this: Iraq bombs from 'Iran' were created by UK security services --Terror devices used by the IRA in a vicious murder campaign in Ulster (2005) blew up British servicemen as the world blamed Iran. Eight British soldiers killed during ambushes in Iraq were the victims of a highly sophisticated bomb first used by the IRA, The Independent on Sunday can reveal. The soldiers, who were targeted by 'insurgents' as they travelled through the country, died after being attacked with bombs triggered by infra-red beams. The bombs were developed by the IRA using technology passed on by the security services in a botched "sting" operation more than a decade ago. This contradicts the British government's claims that Iran's Revolutionary Guard is helping Shia insurgents to make the devices. The Independent on Sunday can also reveal that the bombs and the firing devices used to kill the soldiers, as well as two private security guards, were initially created by the UK security services as part of a counter-terrorism strategy at the height of the troubles in the early 1990s.
