While searching for the video of Jim McDermott using AlterNet's Joshua Holland articles I ran across this speech by Bush's fellow Texas Republican, Ron Paul, reacting to the speech.

It is crystal clear. Americans beware of the Bush administration's attempts to trump up some BS reason to attack Iran. Iran is a 3rd world country with a frail military and remains a decade away from a nuclear weapon -- if it's even building one.

He also points out that having Israel do it will, strategically and ethically, mean that we will be held culpable...

Other reasons not to attack Iran

Common decency?

I've been to Iran a number of times throughout my life to visit (Christian) family. Yes, Christians do live there, have their churches etc etc! There's also a large Jewish community who have their synagogues and representation in Iranian government.

Ahmadinejad spoke about "wiping out" the Israeli regime, NOT the country… OK, it was a stupid thing to say anyway, but it's become a kind of "verbal gulf of tonkin" incident. Not reason enough to turn Iran into another hell-hole, like Iraq.

One other reason to leave them alone, (other than their "3rd world" status and absence of nuclear weapons) is that the Iranians are basically, normal people. Seriously, you'd like them! They are not "crazed fundamentalists". The vast majority respect and admire the acheivments of the American people (but understandably reject American foreign policy). I've spoken to Iranians about this. Many wish to live in Europe or America. Many wish for more western style freedom but everyone I spoke to was proud of being Iranian and as patriotic as your average American. OK, it's not a perfect country, but America supports many Islamic regimes around the world, they just happen to be the MOST repressive. Iran is liberal compared to all the regimes that America supports.

Compare the way women in Iran are treated with the way they are treated by your other Middle Eastern allies…

And this from a Republican

This absolutely frightening speech was NOT from some wild eyed Liberal but from a REPUBLICAN anda Texas Repuplican at that . It is disgraceful that this dire warning was not mentioned ANYWHERE on TV or the Papers .
I originally was opposed to the idea of Impeachment because I feared it would devolve into a tit for tat mentality in which WHENEVER the Congress was controlled by a party other than the President's they would attempt to IMPEACH him . This would mean the latest party whose president was impeached would hold a long time grudge and exercise that option when THEY controlled the Congress . Some feel Clinton's impeachment was payback by the Reoublicans for Nixon's forced Resignation .
I now am gradually changing my mind as the President sinks into MADNESS : ignoring the Commanders on the ground and replacing them because they did NOT agree with him , ignoring the express will of the American public and perhaps more importantly ignoring the 80% of Iraqis who want us out of their country . The only problem with removing Bush is that unless we can remove Cheney , and that may bea bridge too far , we gain NOTHING .
Perhaps the only thing to do is to use the Power of the Purse and do not fund a SINGLE executive Branch Function .

PREEMPTIVE IMPEACHMENT IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO

Slowly, the American people are noticing that this administration cannot tell any truth that contradicts the neocon's "Project for a New American Century"... Finally, people are beginning to take stock of the mountain of lies that have befallen our republic through a dastardly network of media, corporations, non-profits and "inside" military dreamers and think-tanks, culminating in the office of the presidency, aiming for an "ownership" society: NEOCON OWNERSHIP, that is.

The history of this "OILAGARCHY", these elites who depend on passive agreement and diluted consent, especially at the gas-pump and in the courts, as well as decades worth of accumulated on and off-shore super-wealth, shows a clear bee-line for mideast oil monopoly straight through Iran, using the only means they know: The United States Military.

Perhaps, thanks to the internet, this scale of societal manipulation and wealth which has served many a monarch and dictator in the past will not work this time. Perhaps we are already in a "new age" just by the fact of information slowly bleeding the oilagarchs of their support-base and obfuscations... who'd have thought a Republican from Texas would hint at a "false-flag" in the works BEFORE it happens?

This is far more serious than Iraq, and Iran put together. It is the United States of America, the nature and condition of the world's energy technology, it is global warming, the future of civil society. NOT to catch them at it NOW, BEFORE they strike Iran, is to allow the world to devolve into EXTREME CHAOS, at the expense of the "disposable classes", while they can merely escape with their hidden billions to South America and other high-ground, untouched by the death and destruction they've caused AND PROFITED BY... They win no matter what, short of our investigation and prosecution, their exposure to the public.

For those who may have missed it, "scholarsfor911truth.org" has much of the hard evidence and clear-thinking strategy for accomplishing just such a goal. Anyone who can read the research and evidence and NOT sign their petition calling for answers from the US Senate is afraid for their own skin at the peril of their children's.

Preemptive Impeachment is the only way to go!

Look into his voting record and his stand on issues that matter - !!! He seems to be a worthwhile candidate who isn't connected to the elite.. but time will tell, I guess.

Ron Paul not quite a Republican

This representative is a Libertarian, as in the 1988 Presidential candidate of that party. I would personally say he is more of a Constitution party sort of guy, as I see that as sort of libertarians that believe the US is a Christian nation.

Anyway, from Wikipedia:

The Republican congressional leadership then agreed to a compromise: Paul votes with the Republicans on procedural matters and remains nominally Republican in exchange for the committee assignments normally due according to his seniority.

Ron Paul joined the Libertarian Party in 1987 as a lifetime member, a status which he appears never to have renounced. Though only elected to Congress as a Republican, Paul remains on good terms with the Libertarian Party and has addressed its national convention as recently as 2004.

Libertarian Party spokesman George Getz said that thousands of libertarians across the United States donate money to Ron Paul's campaign funds. Campaign disclosures reveal that 71.4% of contributions to Paul's coffers come from outside his home state of Texas. Unlike many political candidates, Paul receives the overwhelming majority of his campaign contributions (92.5% in 2004) from individuals.

If you want to learn more about Ron Paul, you should read his interview with Bill Moyers on May 28, 2004.

Rep. Ron Paul explores run for president
Posted by: rwa on Jan 12, 2007 2:03 PM
Current rating: Not yet rated    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Rep. Ron Paul, the iconoclastic, nine-term lawmaker from southeast Texas, took the first step yesterday toward a second, quixotic presidential bid - this time as a Republican.

Paul filed papers in Texas to create a presidential exploratory committee that will allow him to raise money. In 1988, Paul was the Libertarian nominee for president and received more than 400,000 votes.

Kent Snyder, the chairman of Paul's exploratory committee and a former staffer on Paul's Libertarian campaign, said the congressman knows he's a long shot.

"There's no question that it's an uphill battle, and that Dr. Paul is an underdog," Snyder said. "But we think it's well worth doing and we'll let the voters decide."

Paul limits his view of the role of the federal government to those duties laid out in the Constitution. As a result, he sometimes casts votes at odds with his constituents and other Republicans.

He was one of a handful of Republicans to vote in 2002 against giving President Bush the authority to use military force in Iraq, contending that only Congress had the power to declare war. At times, he has voted against funds for the military.
Paul bills himself as "The Taxpayers' Best Friend," and is routinely ranked either first or second in the House by the National Taxpayers Union, a national group advocating low taxes and limited government.

Ron Paul: Next President Of The USA?
Posted by: rwa on Jan 12, 2007 2:40 PM
Current rating: Not yet rated    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Ron Paul's office has confirmed reports that the Texas Congressman is set to run for the 2008 Presidency. Paul unites opposition to the war and the police state at home across the entire political spectrum and in contrast to the current gaggle of criminals running the White House, represents everything that America truly stands for. A gargantuan effort in support of Ron Paul needs to be mobilized now to prevent Americans from being hoodwinked once again into electing a different puppet of the same dark establishment in 2008.

Paul first ran for President as the Libertarian candidate in 1988, receiving a massive 400,000 votes. He now commands the support of those all across the political spectrum, from libertarians through anti-war Democrats to real paleoconservative Republicans.

Paul has been in and out of Congress since the 70's and is universally hated by the Republican elite, who routinely back Democrats against him just to try and get him out of office. The former Vietnam flight surgeon is the perfect candidate for President and activists from every corner of every political persuasion should mobilize now in an attempt to help Paul shatter the power monopoly of the Republican and Democrat establishment who have worked together for decades to slit America's throat in the interests of power, greed, and ego - all working towards the realization of a new world order.

The Texan represents a dying breed in Congress, those who actually cast their votes in accordance with the Constitution and not at the discretion of lobbyists or the fear that the elite will tarnish their political careers if they don't continually support the establishment. As a result Ron Paul is the elite's worse nightmare, simply having him on the ticket itself will be a massive public relations blow, and that's why media organs will probably be activated to try and discredit him before 2008.

Paul was one of only a handful of Republicans to vote against the illegal invasion of Iraq, contenting rightly that the Constitution clearly states that only Congress can declare war. In bucking a trend, Paul was anti-war long before the majority of the country came around to a similar way of thinking following the catastrophe of the occupation.

While Democrats soft-peddle and cozy up to Bush, creating phony arguments about the level of troop presence in Iraq and ignoring the majority will of the country to bring the troops home immediately, Ron Paul's opposition to unnecessary wars of intervention has remained steadfast throughout his entire political career.

If a gargantuan effort is made from now until the end of 2008 to heighten Paul's media profile and forward him as America's last hope, he truly has a significant chance of giving Jeb Bush, Rudy Giuliani or whichever elitist puppet the Republicans choose to put forward a real run for their money.
At the very least it's a chance to attract attention to some serious issues and hold the establishment's feet to the fire...

Ron Paul voted against the Patriot Act, opposes the draft, advocates the abolition of the income tax, urges the re-introduction of the gold standard, and stands against initiatives to strip the U.S. of its sovereignty such as CAFTA and the FTAA.

From reforming Marijuana laws to supporting an unregulated Internet, to supporting the 2nd amendment, Ron Paul hits home with keystone populist issues across the board.

Iran,oil,and the Euro

From globalresearch.ca:
"In 2005-2006, The Tehran government has a developed a plan to begin competing with New York's NYMEX and London's IPE with respect to international oil trades - using a euro-denominated international oil-trading mechanism. This means that without some form of US intervention, the euro is going to establish a firm foothold in the international oil trade. Given U.S. debt levels and the stated neoconservative project for U.S. global domination, Tehran's objective constitutes an obvious encroachment on U.S. dollar supremacy in the international oil market."

The very second Cheney gives the final go-ahead for the Israeli false-flag attack that will act as the "trigger" for the "retaliatory" nuking of Iraq, China will pre-emptively launch massive history-making undersea earthquakes, one off La Palma in the Canary Islands that will wipe out the entire East Coast, and one off the Pacific that will wipe out the West Coast. As well as set off every major volcano and earthquake fault in the US, simultaneously, including the super-volcano caldera at Yellowstone. America will never know what hit it, and the nuking of Iran will be postponed to be replaced, instead, with an immediate all-out nuclear retaliation upon China, who will respond with all of their nukes, RETARGETED to not be wasted on coastal cities already destroyed, the second the US's are launched. As well as nuclear bunker busters targeted on ALL underground military installations at Las Vegas, in Colorado, and elsewhere. After the US arsenal is empty, Russia will kick the dying corpse with several of their nukes, insuring the death of Nazi Amerika, forever.

So don't worry about Iran... Iran survives, intact. Not a scratch.

And Israel will become VERY overcrowded with every American troop fleeing Iraq and the Gulf.

Hope they're ready for the hordes.

And most probably, within the next two months. Maybe one.
