Zack Hall, a page during the Foley era, called the House Ethics Committee's findings in the Foley scandal "useless" and "disappointing" in an interview with MSNBC (video right).

The committee found that although the Republican leadership had known about, and covered up Foley's behavior, they didn't technically break any congressional rules.

If this scandal happened in any other realm, Hastert, Boehner and Reynolds would likely be in jail, Hall says, but not in the Republican congress!

Update: It looks like head of Dem House election committee, Rahm Emanuel may have known about the Foley emails a year before they became public.

Noting that "Nancy Pelosi, properly, moved against [Dem. Rep.] Jefferson as soon as the $90,000 was discovered," Howie Klein writes: "Let's see what she does against her boy Rahm now. He should, at the very minimum, be immediately removed from any kind of leadership position inside the Democratic caucus. He should also resign from Congress, but I don't expect to see that until he's eventually caught for many more crimes than those just involving the Foley scandal. Emanuel is worse for the Democratic Party than anything the Republicans can throw our way."

Amazing....

but not really amazing. Pretty much what always happens. Like the mob (very good analogy since gov't officials essentially are organised crime) they 'take care of their own'. The whole power structure on both sides is rife with sexual debauchery, child abuse, homosexuality, sexual harassment, prostitution use, etc. Nothing new. The Republicans seem to be more into the underage and homosexual aspects whereas the Democrats tend to like the more standard sexual infidelities (though there are exceptions Frank's call-boy ring, etc). Any and all activities or perversations are acceptable to the masters because it helps them keep the Congress 'in line' and so the votes go the way they wish. Everyso often they throw someone to the wolves if they need a scandal to cover something up or if someone is just stupid but for the most part everyone knew and no one cared about Foley's actions. Do some research on the Franklin CoverUp, the fake homosexual reporter visiting the Whitehouse, the boy and male prostitutes visiting the Whitehouse, the recent prostitution CIA-Congress-DOD scandal, the prostitution ring that John Dean's wife was involved with helping/leading to Watergate, etc.

"Ethics" is about more than not "breaking rules" - it's about doing the right thing even when you don't personally benefit. Clearly, the members of the ethics committee who voted to dismiss the charges are as unethical as those who did not stop Foley earlier.

Rahm Emanuel may have caused the Dems more damage than he knows.

Rahm Emanuel may have caused the Dems more damage than he knows. If he did indeed know about this scandal in advance and did nothing, the he should suffer the same consequences as that of Hastert and other GOP leaders who knew: REMOVAL FROM OFFICE! He at the very least should have come cleam to Pelosi or someone else in the Dem leadership. His silence reflects badly on the Dems who pointed fingers at collusive GOP leaders.

It'll be interesting to see if these shameless, no-conscience GOP mouthpieces have the audacity to chastise Rahm Emanuel while making little mention of their own overwhelming complicity....
