"I've had people say they want to blow up the house," says Roberto Vasquez, an Albuquerque homeowner whose anti-Bush holiday display has his neighbors up in arms. Some, it appears, are even taking up arms. Vasquez' sign has been shot at.
So much for peace on earth, good will to men....
Technically, Vasquez's display runs afoul of his neighborhood's rules for illuminated signs -- but those rules are waved for other brightly-lit Christmas extravaganzas. The ACLU says that the local law is a violation of Vasquez's civil rights because the homeowners' association is discriminating based on the content of the sign.
I don't know about you guys, but until there's a highly publicized First Amendment fight over decorations, it doesn't really feel like Christmas to me.
