The Concerned Women for America spend their time castigating Barbie for sowing "gender confusion" and pushing for things like half million dollar fines for CBS's brief display of Janet Jackson's nipple. Nipple nipple nipple.

On today's Christian News Wire is a press release urging CBS to pay a $550,000 fine, entitled: "CWA Says CBS has Dirt in Its Eyeball."

I'm assuming this is a clumsy wink to Luke 6:41, which (ironically) says: "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?"

Ironic, of course, because it's intended to promote introspection and to forestall self-righteousness. So I'll start the cycle myself and admit that I don't give to charity. Ever.

As for the CWA, their eyes are filled with enough planks to build a boardwalk -- watch the clip above from Michael Shea's Redstate the movie for starters.

The whole scene, only some of which is included the clip, is described by Amanda Marcotte:

Which brings me back to Gladys Gill, the head of the CWA in Mississippi, who Michael managed to provoke into carrying on about how she thinks the Civil Rights Act was the downfall of this country and how she’d like to return to the era of segregation. It’s the highlight of the movie, because it really drives home how racism is the linchpin of movement conservatism, no matter what bizarre lengths to go to deny this.

This hateful hypocritical b.s. has gone on since reconstruction.

Folks always looking for the "good ole days" are the same folks who think THEY are the beneficiaries of America and everybody else is second class..

If these folks are so damned "Christian" then why is Sunday the most segregated day of the week? Heaven sure as hell ain't segregated is it? or I GET IT...there are only WHITE PEOPLE in heaven?????? Give me a freakin' break....

These folks need to find their own island and imbreed themselves out of existance....

God(dess) luvs you....

That was in the book written by the Christian White house office leader who was appointed to give insight to the President and represent christian interests. He resigned out of frustration and anger. He wrote the book and blew out the support for Bush by these same people. He stated they were just used to win elections and then ignored for the rest of the term.

I thought it appropriate that those who are pontificating hte most should get it in the same place they give it. LOL

Why are today's media, from the talking heads and reporters to the editorial pages of newspapers, afraid to ask tough questions of the people they are interviewing? The interviewer in this piece was a total idiot. All he could reply with was, "UM." There should be tough follow up questions-for the president right down to idiots like this woman.

I guess I am just tired of our "media" giving passes to people like this woman, Anne Coulter, George Bush, etc. Hard questions are very seldom asked today, and if you expose yourself to the public, you should be accountable for what you say. Like you are on Alternet.

First of all, the article does not state whether this woman is an official spokesperson for The Concerned Women of America, and secondly, if you read their objectives, there is nothing mentioned about segregation, race or anything pertaining to discrimination unless you bring up the issue of homosexual marriage.
While I am not really familiar with their day to day activities, I did read their stated platform (see Wickipedia), and it seems reasonable for a conservative faith based group.
I think it is very poor and unfair journalism to not be clear as to whether the individual was making a personal observation, or speaking for the organization.
My guess is this individual is speaking for her own personal feelings, which she has a constitutional right to.
I don't personally believe in racism or segregation, but I personally know many blacks and other minorities--and
even ethnic groups that consistently expouse far worse positions than this.
I know of a number of black clergymen, that believe that one of the ugly vestiges of the removal of segregation was the breakup of the black family and its community infastructure. And while most black families are (understandably) happy that segregation is a thing of the past, many black leaders lament the fact that in doing so they have lost the family cohesion that was also a part of early traditional black community life.
I see far more racism on the part of government intervention via affirmative action and blacks and hispanics promoting their own cause over and above justice than I do with respect to white oriented racism.
While I personally do not subcribe to racist or ethnic beliefs,
I think that anyone individually has a right to believe as they choose fit.
I've personally been the target of racism on a number of occasions, but I understood that this was based on the way people were brought up, and I have no animosity.
I would like to see liberals on this site be a little more charitable, honest and incisive before they go off half cocked.

Property Rights?

They don't give a damn about property rights, or reducing the government--once their disgusting segregation started up, their businesses would fail in this country, and they would run to their new government looking for help. Note how the bus companies were against segregation back during the civil rights movement: they knew that they couldn't survive by limiting their customer base like that. Real property rights would harm their ideology more than any government action ever taken...
