Hat tip to The Largest Minority on this scathing clip of the Simpson's satirizing the recruitment process.

Including a recruitment commercial so ridiculous it could only be taking its cues from actual recruitment commercials...

How is it FOX allows this on their waves? Bizarre. Guess I'm missing something.

yeah, i have literally seen some of the stuff in the Simpsons fake commercial in real ones. Most obviously the thing with the sword in the stone fighting monsters -- they play that one in theaters all the time. SO stupid.

Local Wingnut Radio Jock Hated This

The local wingnut radio jock hated this episode of the Simpsons. On Monday he tried to build his entire show around his gripes (whiner!) but his listeners weren't moved to join in. He tried to connect the remarks in the intro about the dumbest of the dumb still not being dumb enough to enlist with Kerry's remarks from two weeks ago but he still wasn't able to stir up his listeners.

Did any one else think that the song played by the faux rock band in the clip sounded like "Communication Breakdown" by Led Zeppelin?

The best is Skinner's "How 'bout you bite me." at the end. Hahah!

SO this thing called evolution has it all intertwined it seems. This episode, Fox, and the real world keep on getting caught up in silly semantics. Either a rage a hollic or a laughing fool it seems as if we're all disapointed in the adult reality. Don't worry folks, it's all pie in the sky. Thankyou writers of the world... Simpson art director or visualizationist too.

Sure....this satire is a riot. I liked it too. But by the tone of the comments, it sounds like none of you has the least degree of respect for anyone who chooses to serve. That's the reason someone like Kerry will never be President after his comments on education/Iraq. Our fighting men protect us.....just remember that.

School assemblies Provide a captive audience

The Simpson's spoof reminded me, once again, of an assembly I was forced to sit through while subtitute teaching at a junior high. It was presented by a group called the Commandos. I urge Alternet to look into the message of this group. They literally shouted a message of God and country sprinkled with performances that included can crushing and bending steel. They dressed in military style outfits. Their overt message was good enough--stay in school, stay off drugs. Their hidden message was to glamorize brute strength and unflinching obedience.

Section 9528 and the 'Sergeant' Skinners

NCLB is due to be reauthorized next year. Section 9528 of NCLB allows the military recruiters access to our kids and our students even when music and art classes are being cut due to testing regimes and lack of funds. We need to get Section 9528 removed from NCLB next year in the House and Senate.

In the school where I teach an ex-military Dean who never fought in a war invited a military style boot camp in and also the Young Marines. Even though the staff was against it he conned the parents into believing it would make their students into respectable citizens. He then convinced the Principal that it would be great for the school.

I hope all my students watched the Simpsons last Sunday night becuase obviously the adults at their schools are manipulating them to fight wars for ExxonMobil.

The Alien commanders in that episode....

... were even more telling.

One yells at the other "but you told me that we'd be greeted as liberators!" and calls the Iraq situation "Operation Enduring Occupation". LOL - that did it for me.

It's very sad when animated programs have more balls than the news. Check em all - King of the Hill, South Park, Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad... they have all been questioning Bushco and the war since it started.
