NBC is refusing to run the trailer for the Dixie Chicks documentary, Shut Up and Sing, because: 'it won't accept the spots... disparaging of President Bush."

Harvey Weinstein, said in a statement that: "The idea that anyone should be penalized for criticizing the president is profoundly un-American." For the moment they've got YouTube and the other networks who are willing to air the ad. You can watch it here (upper right).

John Anderson writes:

A film about terrorism, "Shut Up & Sing" is the story of the Dixie Chicks from 2003, when singer Natalie Maines told a U.K. audience she was "ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas," and country music decided that appeasing the nuts was better than embracing the talent.
What the Chicks - the biggest-selling female recording act ever - display is talent, nerve and heart. What their opposition displays is a belief in a cultural scorched-earth policy that goes beyond boycotts of music and right-wing radio excoriation.
