After a 16-month detention, Iraqi-born U.S. citizen Mohammad Munaf has been sentenced to death in Iraq under the shadiest of circumstances.

He was arrested in Iraq under suspicion of aiding the kidnapping of the three Romanian journalists he was traveling with -- they were released after 3 months. After the 16 months of detention (remember, he's an American), he faced trial, where the judge was reportedly ready to dismiss the case for lack of material evidence.
