According to Steve Benen, a damning new book by David Kuo -- former high-ranking official in Bush's Office of Faith-Based Initiatives -- reveals that Bush's plan for social betterment through the religious community "was a charade," and "a political ploy."

Kuo appears to be one pissed off evangelical. And no wonder:

"National Christian leaders received hugs and smiles in person and then were dismissed behind their backs and described as 'ridiculous,' 'out of control,' and just plain 'goofy,'" Kuo wrote. He added that Karl Rove called some of the nation's most prominent evangelical leaders "the nuts."

Keith Olbermann got his hands on a copy of the book... watch his report above.

George & Karl Rove insult Evangelicals.

I have been saying for at least a couple of years now that the GOP has been playing the Evangelicals just to get their votes. While campainging they wrap themselves in an American flag and grab a Bible, and trick them into voting for them again. The day after the election they throw the Bible and the flag into the trash and go right back to doing the bidding of those who gave them the money to run, the wealthy, CEO's, Big Oil and Energy companies. They did pass big tax breaks for these guys, but even though they have controlled all 3 branches of government, they have passed no legislation to further the cause of social issues that are near and dear to the hearts of Evangelicals. Meanwhile, the GOP is cutting funding for programs for the poor, children, the disadvantaged, the disabled and veterans. They cut funding for Jesus' flock to help balance the books for the tax cuts for Paris Hilton. If Jesus became a Senator, what do you think the chances are that he would go to Washington, cut taxes for the wealthy and then cut programs for the poor or needy? But Evangelicals keep voting for them. Now they have insulted them and their leaders like James Dobson and others, privately calling the Nutballs and Whackos. They never did adequately fund the faith based initiative program making that a sham as well. George Bush and Karl Rove are the most sinister leaders ever to hold office.

If this actually comes as a surprise to the evangelicals, maybe they really are crazy. They actually thought the Bush administration was on their side, willing to do their bidding? This is beyond hilarious.

Of course, I also commend the evangelicals for finally seeing this for what it is - vote-scamming. It's just too bad that it's too late for them to change anything now. (Two years too late, to be exact.) Maybe if the evangelicals and the so-called 'Christian Right' had actually read the writing on the wall, King George and his ilk wouldn't have wound up back in office. (After all, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.) No use complaining about it now, though. They got exactly what they asked for, and now we all get to live with it.

Maybe next time they'll vote with their heads instead of their hearts, and not let things like gay marriage and flag burning cloud their judgement. You know you belong to a real sorry bunch when they can be sold on complete non-issues like that. I'd be happier that I don't fall into that group if it wasn't for the fact that I'm still surrounded by them.

I don't want to offend anyone here, but the Religious Right has consistenly proven to me (IMO) that they're a bunch of blind, bigoted, gullible, superstitious, hollow-headed idiots. And the leaders are all purely Machiavellians like Karl Rove (he's by far the most skilled one, though) and I honestly doubt they themselves believe all the bullshit they preach to the dittoheads. I seriously think more likely than not that they are too blind and close-minded to realize they're being played even with this book coming about. They basically live in Fantasyland.

More stunning proof that Christians are easily duped into supporting evil
Posted by: SevenStarHand on Oct 12, 2006 10:28 PM

The upcoming book titled "Tempting Faith" by former Bush Administration insider David Kuo provides stunning first-hand evidence that the Christian Right was purposely duped into providing pivotal political support by Republican leaders and the Whitehouse. This book and the Foley fiasco are serving to awaken Christians to the undeniable fact that they have been deceived into supporting the evil deeds of duplicitous scoundrels, once again.

The events of recent years and the several millennia before them have provided us with stunning and comprehensive proof that religion is the chosen and purposeful tool of great deceivers. Whether we view the actions of the Temple priesthood of ancient Israel that conspired with Greco-Roman invaders, the sad and sordid history of the Vatican and Papacy, Christian crusaders and colonizers, injustices by leaders and followers of Islam, the oppression of Palestinians by the State of Israel, or the more recent activities of the so-called Christian Right and Republican Party, religious followers are regularly and easily misled into supporting obvious evil.

In recent years, I have produced stunning and comprehensive proof of purposeful deception in the canons of all three Faiths of Abraham and struggled to alert people to this and to related upcoming events and situations. Due to "poisoning of the waters" by deluded religious leaders and followers over the centuries, most have greeted my efforts with derision or indifference, thereby failing to pay attention long enough to discern the accuracy of my research and assertions. Starting with the perfectly timed Atlantic hurricanes of 2004 and 2005, a small number of people, some of them in government leadership positions, began to recognize the truth of my conclusions and assertions. The events of the last year-plus, starting with the ramifications from hurricanes Katrina and Rita, have helped to sweep away many of the facades erected by the Bush-Cheney crew and cohorts. Many of their deceptions have been exposed, their greed and arrogance proven, the myth of their competence destroyed, and most recently the depths of their duplicity and hypocrisy have been illuminated by a series of stunning revelations.

Nonetheless, the so-called Christian Right has continued faithfully supporting them, in spite of mountains of evidence that should have dissuaded any clear-thinking soul. The recent non-stop flood of stunning evidence leaves little doubt that the so-called liberals and the left were 100% correct about the Bush-Cheney crew. Despite assertions to the contrary, conservatives and the Christian Right are now exposed as having arrogantly and foolishly supported blatantly evil scoundrels. We now have proof, beyond disproof, that Republican leaders viewed them as little more than marks and dupes to be milked of their faith, money, political support, and the lifeblood of their son's and daughter's on the battlefields of Bush's and Cheney’s deceptive wars.

With all due respect: this bunch of self-acclaimed "Christian leaders" that look at the world from a bible belt point of view for the most part only added that extra pinch of irrationality that have made US politics such a nuisance during the current administration's reign at least as seen from outside the US (I'm German). The other invariant of Bush politics - tending to the greed of Corporate America in particular the oil industry and the military industrial complex - at least has the advantage of following a certain logic and rationale: that of return-on-investment.

with the ridiculous charge that these guys are trying to build a theocracy? I doubt we'll see a change in the rhetoric even though it's been obvious since the beginning that these guys weren't and aren't religious nor do they respect religion. They are corporate power brokers on an international scale.

And that's it.

Racist? Of course.
Anti-humanist? Of course.
Sexist? Hell yeah.
Religious zealots. Uh..no.

Yes. Agreeing with Rove is one of the most bizarre things...

How atypically candid of him. Amazing, isn't it?

And this has been the Whitehouse Mafia's attitude all along. Nevertheless, the whackos keep voting for them.

What more proof do we need that the literalist-fundie brigade couldn't think straight if you stuck rulers up their noses?

In some States, you people deny the vote to ex-felons even after they've done their time and reformed. Have you considered denying it to irrational, non-reality-based weirdos prone to totalitarian streaks and apocalyptic fantasies?

Thanks Evan for bringing us this story (since I don't watch MSNBC). Question: If the Shrub loses his grip on the evangelicals, does that mean I can stop worrying about his itchy trigger finger pointing toward Armageddon?

So now, MAYBE we can QUIT BLAMING CHRISTIANTIY

See, as I said and have been screaming ALL ALONG, it wasn't REAL Christianity, a faith whose founder invented pacifism and tolerance (and went to His death willingly to demonstrate those concepts), nor even Christianity run amok and full fledged into Christianism (achieving political power AT ALL POSSIBLE COSTS and using ALL POSSIBLE METHODS to supposedly change the world into a "better" [read more intolerant and regulated] place).

No, what we have running America and attacking the rest of the world with impunity is a bunch of sadistic bastards whose only alliance is to how much more money they can con and steal out of American taxpayers and a complicit Congress to kill more innocent babies, women, children, and men in order to make even more money.

That's IT. No noble-minded utter bullshit motives like "spreading democracy"; "making a world a better place"; "stopping the 'killing of babies' via abortion"; or even such a basic task as "PROTECTING AND DEFENDING THE CONSTITUTION" or "PROTECTING OUR BORDERS" or "PROTECTING THE US", PERIOD.

No, it's all about a gang of souless conscience-less thugs and cretins, ranging from brilliant (Rove) on one hand all the way to braindead on the other (Bush) and all manner of bastards in between, trying to suck the US Treasury and middle-class completely dry of any wealth they own, and the poor of everything they own, and using the age-old SCAM of "They attacked us first" and "endless war" "against an enemy who wants to destroy us" over and over.

Until there will be NOTHING LEFT.

So let's call it as I saw it a decade ago (and there are internet posts to prove it); these poor excuses for humanity are not Christians; they're not even the Christianists they mock, manipulate, and sodomize; no, they're mass-market mass-murderers and thieves of the highest possible criminal order.

This crew makes the Nazis look like Jesus' disciples.

Will the Christianists "wake up" and dump them in time?

Not likely. The Pharisees machinated the crucifixtion of Christ, so there's no hope for THAT bunch waking up and smelling the Zyclon B coffee.

Remember: for SOME PEOPLE (and I use the term VERY loosely, because there are ANIMALS on this planet more HUMAN than they are) IT'S ALWAYS ABOUT THE M - O - N - E -Y , and NEVER about ANYTHING ELSE.

Always the M - O - N - E - Y.

Ask Cheney, the Rasputin of DC. Ask Rumsfeld, the real Butcher of Baghdad. Ask Rice, the whore of Babylon.

M - O - N - E - Y.

What else is new? If anyone ACTUALLY believes the likes of Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, among others, are actually really about "serving Christ" and not lining their own pockets, they are truly beyond hope as far as I can see. When you consider this, it's not surprising these deluded souls have bought Bush, Cheney and Rove's BS about so-called "family values". None of these guys are about ANYTHING but GREED and "SHOW ME THE MONEY"!

If you want to understand what truly "serving Christ" is all about, look no further than the Amish parents of those five innocent little girls who were killed by an obviously insane man last week. THAT'S what Jesus REALLY was talking about in His teachings.

If Jesus is ACTUALLY ever going to come back....some people are in for a really NASTY SURPRISE!

Well, it is certainly interesting that I have to agree with Karl "Turd Blossom" Rove about anything.

Nevertheless, expecting any significant change in evangelical behavior is probably wishful thinking. If these gullible zombies were smart enough to catch on - even after this revelation - they would already be too smart to be evangelicals.

I'm sorry, but despite efforts by Democratic leaders to "un-demonize" these people, the inescapable truth is that in order to believe the nonsense they believe, in the modern age, you have to be moron to begin with.
