Ava Lowery is only 15, but she's already made quite a name for herself with a number of self-produced videos featured on Crooks & Liars, Youtube, and elsewhere (watch her latest, right).

On the eve of her 16th birthday, when many girls are throwing Sweet 16s, she's organizing "Sixteen Candles for Soldiers," in Montgomery, Alabama on October 21st. Watch the video and get involved here.

Lowery writes:

It's an event that is meant to honor and respect our troops by showing our support for them. We plan to demand they get the benefits they deserve and that they be brought home from this war we were lead into by liars. Every day brave Americans are dying as a result of this Administration's actions. It's up to us to demand the truth and accountability. Join me on October 21, 2006 at the State Capitol Steps in Montgomery, Alabama, and we'll show the Bush Administration what real support for our troops looks like.

I am so moved, i can hardly see past my tears to thank this remakable young person for her courage , her convictions and her insight. That this young woman can contribute so powerfully to the essential Peace dialogue is a revelation... I was beginning to think most Americans were selfish brainwashed idiots , addicted to spin and namecalling when facts are presented... anything to avoid the tough reality that endless war truly requires endless sacrifice, losses of the deepest and most painful kiind.
Here we have someone who understands that supporting the troops requires more than a cheap yellow car ribbon.
I hope her parents are as proud of her as I am.
What a great American. AWESOME!

If one of my children were this brave at fifteen, I would be the proudest parent alive.

Congrats from Canada. Your work will be remembered.
