Sure, go ahead and watch the video of former Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL) coming down hard on the "sickos" who violate children. It certainly appears as though he's one of the sickos to whom he refers.

It's pathetic and sad but it's not entirely unexpected that a sick man, disgusted with his own compulsion to behave badly, rails against that very behavior. If he has violated the law, he should be dealt with.

But his illness isn't of the institutional kind.

The institutional illness that should be considered a part of any crime is that Republican leaders knew about this issue a year ago and neither investigated, nor informed Democrats:

Actually, he was caught by a fellow Republican, Rodney Alexander, because one of the pages worked for Rep. Alexander and turned Foley in. So, what did the Republicans do about it? Absolutely nothing. Zero. Zilch. Nada.
They covered it up. Because it's what they do.
The Republican Protection Racket stepped in and made the story go away. There was no public apology to the boys that were sexually harassed. No criminal investigation. No ethics investigation. Not a word.
The Republican leadership knew for most of the year.
Sickos.

Digg!

and why should anyone believe it will be the last?

Seems to me that sexual indiscretion (even criminal sexual indiscretion) is a political tool that the GOP uses liberally. (pardon the pun) Whenever it backfires on them, they simply villify (sometimes rightfully) the accused and separate themselves from it. They then hold this up as proff of their 'family values' and tough stance on crime.

It's a sham. I personally think that the GOP find people with questionable backgrounds USEFUL, and that they LIKE To have them in positions of power, because that way they can push these people around, threatening them with exposure.

it's a twisted game.

Self hating pedophile

Foley is a self-hating pedophile. Many of the more homophobic members of the GOP are probably self-hating homosexuals. Pretty f'd up all around. The people suffer for it. WTH is with Musgrove thinking being gay is the biggest danger we face today? What an idiot (and makes me wonder whether she protesteth too much).

Since the GOP claim to corner the market on "morality", the hypocrisy is over-the-top. So when the rightwingers start throwing Clinton in your face (which can't be compared because in Clinton's case, both were consenting adults; same with the Barney Frank thing), kindly remind them that Clinton & the Dems have never tried to be the party of "family values" -- which entails legislating what you do in your bedroom and how you express your own sexuality. No, the party that wants to control a woman's body and how people express their love for each other should be according to what the GOP wants. So, now maybe they think pedophilia is OK? Looks like it. What a screwed up bunch of mofos.

I really think the Foley scenario is just the tip of the iceberg. When men of such craven morality rule the country, you can be sure that fixation on "power" and control, leaves little room for true compassion or self restraint in any area of life. The devil's children are still the devil's children and subject to the immoral temptations that Washington so generously provides. Pretty little teenage boys and girls can certainly be a temptation to almost any high strung, power edged man or woman and the occasional weak one will succumb to the thrill.

Youv'e seen it all the way to the top in our government, and let's face it ...sex rules!

Hey - fuck you!

He's a pedophile, and he may be an alcoholic but alcohol doesn't create pedophiles, otherwise I could reasonably assume you'd be diddling your 10 year old niece after a few beers at the family reunion.

Mark Foley taints the image of all gay men, but only in the eyes of homophobes like you who find justification in Foley's actions to call gays "fags".

I suppose I'm justified in calling straight pedophiles "stinkin' fuckin' breeders".

CONSPIRACY OF SILENCE!!!

Just within the last month I happened to come across a documentary called Conspiracy of Silence. It is about a man from Omaha, NE who was pimping out children that lived in a children's home there called Boystown. Here is the kicker, he

was pimping them out to members of Congress. The lead-in to the documentary says, on Tuesday May 3rd 1994 this program was scheduled to air on the Discovery Channel.
Influential members of Congress applied pressure to the cable industry to stop the airing of the program, and destroy all copies.
It was already listed nationwide in the Apr. 30th-May 5th edition of TV Guide and Newspaper Supplements.
The Discovery Channel and Yorkshire Television were reimbersed for 1/4 to 1/2 million dollars production costs.

The pimp's name is Lawrence King.

I knew there was some reason why I should latch on to that documentary. According to some of the children that were interviewed, there were some pretty sadistic things done to them. So I think it's safe to say that morality rings pretty hollow in the halls of Congress these days. All I can say is, it's a sad day in history for this country, when some of the most powerful men in this country are allowed to prey on the most vulnerable of our society. I think it's about time to destroy the snake pit that has been allowed to fester itself in Congress.
