ABC's edited Path to 9/11 still a path to B.S.

It's embarrassingly symbolic that, as John Aravosis noted, the makers of Path to 9/11 didn't manage to get the correct spelling for Secretary of State Madeleine Albright (Geez. For $40 million could these guys have at least hired a copy editor?).

This is one of the few mistakes that can be chalked up to benign laziness. The rest are irresponsible distortions that soil their supporters and shame the Disney name for the foreseeable future. To put it bluntly: this is some embarrassing s**t.

After threats of a libel suit from Clinton, denunciations from public figures portrayed, the resignation of an FBI consultant, and a general outcry from progressives, pro-Bushites, historians and the public, ABC issued a petulant press release chiding critics for irresponsibly jumping to conclusions as they hadn't seen the film and besides, it wasn't even finished.

A lie, of course, but at least it was a lie to save face as it edited out the mangled facts, right? Wrong.

As the two-clip sample here shows, the criticisms simply prompted some lawyerly editing to cut down on the explicit misrepresentations in favor of implicit ones. The fabrications remain but the defamation of Clinton officials is only slightly muted.

In the top clip, the original, in which Clinton's National Security Adviser Sandy Berger refuses to give the go-ahead to an assassination attempt on bin Laden, direct references to bin Laden being in the sights and ready to be taken out are plentiful and emphatic: "It's been confirmed that Osama bin Laden is in the building on the site" and "We're ready to load the package [kill bin Laden]... do we have clearance to load the package?"

Berger passes the buck, leaving bin Laden alive -- we know the rest.

In the bottom clip, the edited version, references to the feasibility of killing bin Laden are toned down, though it's still apparent that that's what's going on, and Berger still refuses to give the go ahead: "...There are women and children near the target..." and "we know enough to try." Watch the clips to get the full effect. It remains abundantly clear what's at stake.

Unfortunately, not only was this meeting a complete fabrication but, as Richard Clarke has noted, "no US military or CIA personnel were on the ground in Afghanistan and saw bin Laden."

Think about what it must be like to be Sandy Berger or Madeleine Albright. Here you have ABC/Disney greenlight this bozo project for $40 million, listening to no independent knowledgeable voice, lying about the contents of the final edit after criticism pours in, and STILL you're accused of allowing the tragedy of 9/11 for your cold and cowardly inability to act... Right wing operatives will always try to salt the media with revisionist BS. But shame on ABC/Disney for biting. And for continuing down the path of embarrassment. You can bet that this thing is far from over.

Digg!

I watched it. It was pretty good at showing what was going on from the terrorists point of view, but about 1:45 in it hit the absurd with those blatant misrepresentations of what was happening. I guess I'll watch the 2nd half to see if they do a similar smear job on Bush, but, considering the rightward-leaning of its advisors and producers, I doubt it.

Considering the upcoming election, it really did seem to be geared toward putting the blame on the Clinton administration. What was really ironic was the attempt to make Clinton appear too distracted by the Lewinsky affair to do his job right -- because the GOP at the time insisted his efforts to gun for Osama was all wag the dog and no substance.

Maybe there is some truth to the film after all -- maybe if the Republicans hadn't been so hell-bent on impeaching the president, Clinton would have been able to focus more effort on the terrorism issue.

Byt he way, people can go to abc.com to comment on the film. I'd recommend anyone who has watched it to help set the record straight -- particularly if you've read Clarke's book, or the actual 9/11 report.

CIA opertative (played by Peter Sellers as Chief Inspector Clouseau): "We have the bum (bomb) in place."

Berger: "What?"

Clouseau: "The bum is in place, we have the bum in place."

Berger to room of agents: "Did he say 'bum,' he has a bum in place?"

One agent to Clouseau: "What are you saying, Clouseau?" You have a bum."

Clouseau: "No, no, you idiot, I have the bum (bomb) in place; it is ready."

Seene fades as Osama rides away on the camel while Clouseau and CIA agents are still arguing over the pronouciation of "bomb."

You get the picture. Our government has screwed the pooch on the war, because our leadership is mostly incompetent. The few times they show competence, they are corrupt.

It seems to me I recall that at one point during the Monica Lewinsky witch hunt that President Clinton tried to get congressional support to go after Bin Laden and was accused of throwing up smoke screens in order to get attention away from Whitewater. Does anyone else recall anything like this happening?

Path to 9-11

I watched the first part of the Path to 9-11. I did not expect the propaganda to be so blatant. Cyrus Nowrasteh, the author, said in an interview " In my writing and directing, I don't want to be a conservative version of Michael Moore." In order to do that he would have to tell the truth. This movie was instigated by Youth With a Mission who have uncredited universities called University of Nations throughout the world. One of their main speakers at their universities is a creationist, Forrest Nims. David Cunningham, director of the Path to 1984 graduated from University of Nations. Kean a republican in charge of the 9-11 commission was a paid consultant and also made money off it by writing a book. I thought that our mainstream media was pushing propaganda when they all chearleaded the war instead of asking questions but this has completely obliterated any credibility that ABC and Disney could possibly have.

Did anyone happen to notice when they showed Clinton saying "I did not have sexual relations with that woman" they panned the obelisk, how artisically immature to use such and obvious phallic symbol. Rubbish.

This show is on the BBC, Sunday thru to Monday September 11.
It is full of daft stuff. Example. In the [kill bin Laden] operation planning scenes:
Some Top-Brass enquires forcefully "Is this gonna be a covert or a 'paramilitary' op?"
(The exchange proceeds something like):
Reply: "That all depends how it goes, it it fails we don't want anyone hearing about it"
It just doesn't gell that such exchanges would take place between Generals and subordinates.
The authors could be making it up or embelishing events as they go along. Who is going to confirm or deny such or such secret discussions took place in the first place?
It's all completely ridiculous. I want nothing to do with it.

I am suspicious of the simultaneity of events that are: A string of releases of Al-Qaeda/Bin-Laden 911 explanation movies/documentaries together with the release of the NIST update, a renewed attack by the whitehouse on the "911 Truth movement" trying to implicate it in the supporting of terrorist recruitment (sic) Whitehouse attacks conspiracy theorists as terrorist recruitment agents, the memorial of the 911 terror-attack & now BYU's decision to suspend Prof Steve Jones of 'scholars for 911 Truth' on paid leave while it reviews his involvement in the so-called "9/11 truth movement".

Two other University professors have been similarly relieved of their posts in the last few days.

This could be better than the OJ case. It looks like a "Slam Dunk" for Clinton, Berger and Allbright.

NEW GENRE: A DICK-U DRAMA
Posted by: LynnZTV on Sep 11, 2006 10:20 AM
Current rating: Not yet rated    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
As a former newswriter for an ABC affiliate, and as a media critic, I felt obligated to watch the show...

Is it just me, or did anybody else laugh when the visuals went from Monica Lewinsky to a slowly rising, large missile?
Could they have possibly wrung any more out of that episode without resorting to almost comic length and breadth?

Hence the evolution of the DICK-U-DRAMA. It is not the last of its kind, but hopefully, a wronged President, a slandered Berger and maligned Madeline Albright will school these toads in the only language they understand: litigation.

I'm staying tuned, just to document the next excremental episode. But before signing off, I'd ask your readers to consider the following:
He killed 137 people as Governor.
2950 people died on 9.11.01, despite warnings from a PDB (presidential daily briefing) entitled "Bin Laden Determined To Attack In U.S."
By Christmas, 3000 people will have died in a war of choice that has no connection to the events of 9.11.01.
150-250 thousand civilians have been killed in the Mid-East in this "war."
And at least 1800 people died in the Gulf Coast due to the failure to evacuate before the storm, and after the government inspected levees failed. (Stay tuned for Disney's next DICK U DRAMA: The Big Blow: How Katrina was President Clinton's Fault!)

Well, you can't say that the current occupant of the White House isn't concerned about that pesky population issue.
By my count, he is personally responsible for between
157,887 and 250,887 fewer people on this bright blue marble.

How many days are there until Election Day? Make sure your vote counts.

To its credit, PATH TO 9/11 did mention that the bombing in 1993 was motivated by Palestinian objection to the US support of Israel.

Ted Koppel's simultaneous THE PRICE OF SECURITY treated terrorism as an ideology in itself. No mention of Israeli or American hegemony.

Else, both programs were 9/11 fear mongering.

I think it's just great that the light of day has begun to fall on companies like Disney/ABC. Coupled with the growing incompetence of the so called "creative" people invovled in presenting these very bent fabrications makes clear the obvious right wing agenda at steady work here. Every shocking time they get caught we can all better see what they are up to. Truth is served - it's just on the diagonal at the moment. Thank goodness for the incompetence of this crop of propagandists and for the dissenfectant nature of light.

Did anyone notice that the terrorist that was stopped coming into the country had a Costco card? I wonder if the Waltons of Walmart have donated any money to the making of this farce.
