In shades of the 2000 US presidential election, Mexico's electoral court declared Felipe Calderon president-elect. As the court said, "The presidential elections of the United States of Mexico are valid."

There has been a major controversy over the result of the election and irregularities are rampant. However, Felipe Calderon, with support of Bush, FOX News' Dick Morris, Wal-Mart, Craft, and yes, Halliburton, has been "declared victorious."

Now, in classic corporate Economic Hit Man style, Caldron will begin privatizing Mexico's national oil company and handing over resources owned by the Mexican people to US corporations.

Although, presidential challenger, Lopez Obrador is not going quietly. Unlike Gore or Kerry's concession to Bush, Obrador says he will not recognize Caldron's presidency and will form his own "parallel government." And it appears that the majority of Mexicans are behind him. We will have to see how this plays out.

Coincidently, this all comes at a time when US oil companies have made a major oil discovery in the Gulf of Mexico. It has been called "the largest oil find in a generation." I guess they won't have to worry about the Mexicans getting a cut of the huge profits to come.

In this video clip, Amy Goodman interviews John Ross about US corporate involvement and interests in the Mexican presidential election.

Digg!

Being as how our fear-frozen nation seems unable to protest when our elections are stolen, perhaps our neighbors to the south can teach us how to honor a democracy. They want a full ballot recount and their "massas" are telling them to shut up. To their credit, they're not going along with the screwing. Hopefully, we here in el Norte can watch and learn, although, having elected and re-elected George W., we may be too far gone to learn anything at all. Cranial Deficit Disorder could be incurable.

Just came across this post, and want to add my 2 cents' worth: This is the first time I remember reading anything by David McGraw, so I don't know if the rest of his work is similarly slanted, but to blindly, unquestioningly accept unproven and unsubstantiated charges of fraud and repeat them as fact is a disservice to his readers.

"However, Felipe Calderon, with support of Bush, FOX News' Dick Morris, Wal-Mart, Craft, and yes, Halliburton, has been "declared victorious." What form does this support take? If Morris (I assume) said that Calderón was the president-elect, is that support or opinion (if made before the ruling by TRIFE; if after it is consummated fact)? How is it different from an assertion that "he wuz robbed"? Walmart and Halliburton are the enfants terribles du jour, so bringing them up gratuitously is as reprehensible a smear tactic as the cut-and-run attacks on Murtha...

Now, in classic corporate Economic Hit Man style, Caldron will begin privatizing Mexico's national oil company and handing over resources owned by the Mexican people to US corporations." As likely to happen in Mexico as putting up condos in Arlington Cementery: politically impossible (for the record, Calderón and PAN have long been in favor of de-monopolizing the energy sector, currently in the hands of the gov't., but that is not the same as privatizing, it just means the field is opened up to allow others to participate. Since when are you in favor of monopolies?)

Although Lopez Obrador is not going quietly... [he] says he will not recognize Caldron's presidency and will form his own "parallel government." And it appears that the majority of Mexicans are behind him. We will have to see how this plays out.: It's not a majority: 2 out of 3 Mexicans oppose AMLO at this point by any measure you wish to apply. Even when this article was written nearly a month ago, AMLO's support was eroding from the 35% he got at the polls (sorry, forgot about the fraud. How much did he really get? 45%? 54%?)

I'm not a conservative rightwinger, but I do pride myself on trying to see both sides of an issue, and that is what I seek at Alternet, an alternative to the bias in MSM; but please keep it factual and fair (unlike Faux News)...
